In today's video I'm sharing how I'm getting fit after 50! I hate exercising, but it's an important component to a well rounded weight loss plan. I was invited to try the trainwell fitness app and I really am enjoying the 1:1 personal training routine tailored specifically for me. I am motivated to get in shape with the aid of my online personal trainer as well as my RU-vid community! 20 pounds...way to go! Keep up the great work. As I'm watching you, I think I can tell it in your face, neck & shoulder area. In June of 2022, I started a healthier lifestyle journey (I'm not calling it a diet). I've started using my break time to take a walk inside the building where I work using the health app on my phone to track my steps. I'm not tempted to skip on the those days when the weather outside is bad. I've been able to stay consistent with it, encourage others as I'm out & about and have lost 51 pounds. I wish you continued success.

I agree with starting slow. Consistency is key, start slow but keep at it. I walk 20-30 minutes on my treadmill 4-5x weekly and weight train for 20-30 minutes 2-3 times weekly.

I've gotten where I like exercising because it feels good. And you're so right that it feels good to achieve what you set out to do. Currently, I'm following April and her mother Aido on RU-vid and using weights for the first time. Thanks so much for your unfailing encouragement. Also, I went into your LTK shop to check out a jean jacket you showed and ended up getting it for $16.43 on sale (normally at least $40.00)! This was at Old Navy, whose quality is not as great, but I love their fit. I'm loyal when I find a good fit. Thanks so much.

Exercise is incredibly helpful for stress relief & for anxiety & your mood in general. When I can’t exercise, I’m not a happy person. The more you do it, the more you may see it help you in these intangible ways, not just weight loss.

I was intrigued and went to check out the site. No where, however, can I find where it tells you how much the service costs after the 14-dayt trial. Have to say I'm very skeptical about this. What big price tag are they hiding? Can you tell us the price?

I have watched real fitness trainers /coaches evaluate Co -pilot. Sorry to Cathy (and to each his own) but Co-pilot is not highly thought of among gym professionals and people who are gym experienced

Have you tried rebounding? It’s easy on the joints, but definitely gets your muscles working and reduces inflammation so well. I hold light hand weights while doing it (once you gain your balance, of course) and it doesn’t take an hour to get the job done.

Oh Cathy, 15 minutes is an awesome beginning! That's exactly how I started in Nov 2020 and a year later I was walking 5 - 7 days a week for 50 - 70 minutes - mainly because I just enjoyed being outside way more than I thought I was going to. It also helped not to think of it as exercise, but as just a mental health break to get out and breath fresh air, look at the lovely gardens my neighbours have, chit-chat with fellow walkers etc. PS my cat Poppy likes to join me on my yoga mat too!

You look super good. Indeed if you set your expectations too high you won't do the excercise no more. My goal is 15 to 20 minutes on the treadmill or walking one of the dogs. Keep on going Cathy, you are doing great ❤❤️

I can see it in your face that you’ve lost some weight. Great job, Cathy.! There’s a ton of workout videos on RU-vid for free. I just put them on the big screen TV and move right along with them. Also at 68 I just bought a rebounder and that helps with the joints as I’ve had two knee replacements. I can jog on the rebounder without hurting my kneesand they say that 15 minutes on the rebounder is like a 30 minute walk or jog.

75 yo overweight female here. We walk our little dog two times a day, distance dependent on the weather. I’m also looking forward to Spring temps that will come. Dump of snow yesterday and cold but I can feel the sun’s warmth increasing 🌞. I also go to exercise classes at our local seniors club and a private instructor classes of Dance and Fitness. I need to pay the money, have set times, go with friends or I won’t do it. The social part is great also. Looking forward to aquafit at the local outdoor pool July & August. At a minimum my goal is to maintain my level of fitness and if I gain strength, stamina & mobility then bonus!! 💪🏾

Great you are going for walks , I do find very good mentally - the fresh air, peaceful! It is totally more difficult at this age- we have to persevere. Reframe the terminology from exercise to loving movement. My walking started at 750 steps a day. I'm now at 4000 per day with no chest pain or shortness of breath. You are right about making small sustainable changes setting yourself up for success. Keep up the good work

Good for you!! Any kind of exercise is good compared to none. I got back into rebounding and it is so much fun with the right videos to follow. I feel great after just 10-20 minutes of HIIT rebounding.

Yes! we are so proud of you! You should also be proud of yourself! I started working out with a trainer, 2x a week, for 1 hour. After a few weeks I am starting to use my treadmill on the other days. I also know what will set me up for failure! I’ve spent the last 2 years doing double total knee replacement surgeries and recovery. I have to start slow. Thank you, Cathy for your inspiration!😊

I love your honesty. I feel the same way about working out. I haven't done it steadily in a long time and it can be intimidating to start a workout routine, again. Especially, when you hear other people talk about their workout routine and how intense it can sound. I don't have a lot of free time with work and well let's just say "life stuff'. Like you, I just need to start slow and do what I think I can accomplish in the time that I have to work out. I'm glad I watched this video today, you have inspired me to look into a workout routine that can work for me. Thank you for being you and being honest about how you feel about working out and setting reasonable goals.

Good morning! I’m very proud of you for starting your journey. I am a below knee amputee. I was unable to do much before my surgery. I finally received my leg! It has been a game changer. I now work out at the senior center (free) 3 days a week. I’m 68 and nothing is going to stop me now!!!

I will join you as I'm in the same boat. I have not exercised in years. I'm turning 60 in May and I'm 20 away from my goal weight. Did not exercise while losing but it will definitely help me lose my last 20 and get toned which I really want to do. I will not do the personal trainer thing just yet but will commit to 20 min workouts 3 times per week as well as walking 10 minutes 3 times a week. I don't enjoy walking but I know it's good for me and it's something I can do. I will chart for the month of April! I have company coming for the next two weeks so I won't start until they leave. Thanks for your encouragement, just what I need to get my butt moving lol

I'm joining you Cathy! I don't enjoy exercise at all but loved going to a gym regularly pre-covid, then I never went back! I just honestly don't enjoy routine exercise at all. That said, I had plans to begin neighborhood walks this coming Monday. I think my aversion to exercise was the feeling that it had to be done daily for it to work. I can start with you three times a week, even have a few routes in mind, so count me in! I can truly relate to the things you've said here, and it's encouraging that I'm not alone!! So here we go!

Cathy! I am so proud of you! I have been trying to lose weight with you! I started at 231 and am down to 189! I have been using your plate method and really trying to eat clean! We have just started walking 2 miles a day and I am going to add some arm exercises, as well as some core! Let keep it going! WE GOT THIS!!

I’m so happy I found your YT channel. I’ll turn 50 in September and wright now I’m a mess - I’m overweight (need to lose 50lbs), depressed, have no energy and now motivation to take care of myself. I look exactly how I feel - really bad. I was binge watching your videos yesterday and today I put make up on, make my hair, put on a pretty blouse. I even wear contacts. Hi Cathy, just found your channel. I am a soon to be 60 year old women. The struggle is real! So many channel's that I have found dont really cater to women my age. Your tips and tricks seem very doable. And I love your honesty and realistic approach. I dont want unrealistic goals. I want to enjoy life, I dont want to feel deprived. I’ve been doing aqua fit/water aerobics at LA Fitness And Golds Gym. As a senior, Medicare, through Silver Sneakers, pays for gym memberships. You can’t ever fall, you can do it with a bad hip or knee, and in an hour my I watch tells me I’ve done a day’s exercise. And it is FUN!

Thank you Cathy. I’m 64 and have been about 30-50 lbs overweight my entire life. I also don’t like to exercise. I like your advice about making small goals. I’m motivated to walk a bit and 15 minutes seems doable. I also want to find a line dancing class because I like dancing. I’ll try to make better food choices as well but that is challenging for me. I’ve started walking myself and am up to 30 minutes on my walks. I’m trying to rebuild my cardiovascular activity myself after a TKR . I’m hoping my weight comes off also. Making my plan and trying so hard for consistency! Good luck!😊

Ok, Im down for the 15 minutes 3 times a week. I was doing copilot for about 10 months. I really did like it, but had to sign off owing to a little financial stresser. I'm still lifing 3 times a week though ( we have a small gym here in our condo).

Just exercise when you want. Those of us who don’t like it have trouble with that. At age 70, I still hate to exercise. I get out maybe twice, but not scheduled. I have back. issues. Have had surgery. I go when I want. I do clean my house, cook most days, etc. so I am active daily. I like the walk at home routines, but can’t stick to that either. So no pressure, Kathy! You don’t want to feel like you failed. So have no expectations, then be pleasantly surprised!

I just told my husband last week that I’m going to start exercising next week. The week actually starts tomorrow. So I will start tomorrow. When I worked I got all kind of exercise. But I’ve been retired for a long time. We do own land. Which is on the side of a mountain. If I just walked to the top of the hill, I would get a lot of exercise. I don’t mind going up. It’s the going down that gets me. I will be 65 in a few months. And I’m always afraid I’ll break a bone. So I’m choosing to exercise instead. I have all kinds of videos. And resistance bands and all the good things. So I need to pick which one I will do. I’m going to shoot for three days a week. And if I do more I’ll be happy too. We do have to walk down part of the hill to get our mail. Then back up to get to the house. I wear an Apple Watch and always check my heart rate. It gets high trying to get back to the house.

Awesome! I’ve been on a journey for a little less than a year and went from a depressed couch potato to someone who can’t wait to do yoga and play tennis. Starting slow also helps you not get injured so you can build momentum. ❤

BTW - for any of your viewers with a very high waist, like me, I just found a great t-shirt in Target - called a Universal Thread Shrunken tee - and for me, at 5' -1/2" it is perfect. I still can tuck it in but don't have loads of extra fabric coming down to the top of my thighs.They are not Talbots quality, but for $10, they feel pretty good, and look great under a jeans jacket. They came in lots of colors and I sized up in case they shrink.

Hey, look at the tiny wait in your workout portion! You look great! I’m kind of at a standstill for weight, but my body changes are still coming, I’m going to start adding walking at the gym tonight, but have been doing the old Tracy Anderson Method DVDs and I love what it’s doing to my 54 year old body.

It’s so refreshing to watch your videos. You’re so down to earth and share so many things I have issues with. I’m up for the 30 day walking challenge! I’ve fallen off of my routine the last 6 weeks and it’s time to get back to it! I joined Planet Fitness last year and try to go at least 3-4 times a week. I’m usually just doing the treadmill for 20-25 minutes and sometimes do the recumbent bike. I was always intimidated about being at the gym, but I realize no one cares about me there, but me 😂. If I don’t feel like going to the gym I will just do a walk in the neighborhood but to be honest, I like to 👋 myself when I get in my car to drive home after the gym. It’s a feeling of accomplishment for me. Thanks Cathy for sharing your journey with us ❤

When I went on a weightloss journey I bought a machine called a glider from HSN. I started out with 1 (10 mins) set on the glider (full body work out) and increased over time. The more I lost the easier it became. Some time later I bought a Joe Weider home gym. My exercise routine ended up at 1hr15mins daily and walking the dogs 7 days a week and I worked full time. The more I could do, the more I lost. Today, 23 years later, I still exercise 3x per week. It may be hard at the start, it gets easier in time. Muscles burn fat, exercise relieves stress. You go Kathy!❤

I recently had a hip replaced. Much to my surprise I have really enjoyed doing the PT necessary. I feel so much better and at nearly 70 have been thinking about how to continue an exercise program safely. You've given me the perfect solution! Thank you so much for making this video.

Since I have been IF for about 16:8 daily, I plateaued. So I have tried exercising on a gazelle glider about 3 min at a time. Up to about 10 min. off and on. Some light weights too. Woman power!😊

When I was doing Keto and one meal a day while losing 50 pounds and hit a plateau, I would fast for 3 days which would result in a 5 pound loss and breaking the plateau.

Hi Cathy, I came across your channel back in November when I had just started on my weight loss journey. I’m now up to 18lbs and doing similar to you following a balanced approach and not having the sweet stuff in the house, trying to lose about 50-60lbs. I recently started exercising too and feel great for it. You have been very inspiring to me. I’m so sorry for all that you and your husband are going through but you are doing so well and I’m so glad you are managing to stick with your plan. It really does help to not feel like I’m doing this on my own and I’m sure many others here feel the same, hopefully you feel some encouragement back from your followers. I’ve had a few weeks of no loss and would have fallen off plan at this point in the past but I feel great on this plan and really want to reach my goal. My mindset is different this time. This week I realised my clothes are getting too big - small wins like these help to keep me going. I’m going to be 50 this year and promised myself I’d get to a healthy weight this year. Looking forward to carrying on following your journey whilst being on my own. I started doing Walk at home with Leslie Sansome, 30 minute routines. I play it on youtube on my tv and follow along, I started in January 2021 and have been doing it at least 3 times a week and now I started another two days with 20 mins. It is so exciting and such an accomplishment every time. I love the videos but the older ones specifically with Leslie Sansome.

Way to go, Cathy! I'm doing walking and lifting hand weights at home too. I like to use what I have rather than make the effort to go to a gym, because I know I won't be inclined to do that. My knees are bone on bone 😩so I'm doing just 10 minute walks at a time.

I love following your journey. I’m a dedicated walker who hates indoor exercise. Very hard to get motivated to do weights or yoga. You are smart to walk by time and not miles. So much easier to just walk for a certain number of minutes, then turn around and head home. No measuring distance! I have also started using your divided plate method and find it helpful.

Good for you for doing that! I work out once a week with a trainer and do silver sneakers and water aerobics it hasn’t help me lose weight but boy if I don’t do it I notice a difference for sure

I’m on board with tracking activity! As you know I walk many times a week (mostly weekdays) but I want to start having short evening strolls too. We have a full gym in the basement but I haven’t been using it any time my husband is working from home because that’s where he has his desk (he doesn’t mind but I like my space to get sweaty 😂). I always feel good when I work out - here’s to us getting healthier 😊👍

GO Cathy! Yes, I"ll join you! I've committed to 20 minutes a day, 7 days a week of SOMETHING. Some days, it's just easy yoga, some days, it's 20 minutes of really pushing myself on my rower. I bought a rower that's like a Peloton bike but it's a rower. Called a Hydrow. They aren't cheap but I got mine used and I LOVE it. Easy on my knees, too and you can really work up a sweat once you get to that fitness level. GO US!
