So nice to see you Carter. Thank you for all your information. I am in British Columbia Canada and we have Costco here but no Azure which is sad because you and a few other ladies I follow from Alaska use Azure all the time. Similar Butcher boxes here but just way to expensive. Prices in Canada for groceries are unbelievable!! Years ago my husband and I would take a flip down to Fred Meyers in Bellingham and buy beef and chicken. Often the border security just lets you go. Haven't been down there in about 4 years. Last trip to Costco a prime rib roast for example was 187.00 YES 187.00 Did I purchase hell NO. I just keep looking for deals and when I find them just pressure can it up. Never have been a real left over kind of gal but now I have to be. Try and be inventive on one recipe next day spruce it up differently so it tricks my brain.

$187??? Sheila, that's nuts! I watch a couple Canadian channels, and I see the crazy prices you guys have to contend with. At least you have done such a good job stocking your canning pantry. I'm hoping that will at least help us offset store prices. And yes to leftovers any way you can enjoy them.

Carter, I have never reused my bones 3x ever for beef broth until watching you. God bless. I’m going back old school to biblical times and I’m going to almost always going to keel a broth going! I’m going to keep my 28 qt roaster going for the year and see how that goes! I invested in many jars for 2024, and I haven’t worked in 7 months.

Yes Carter, I do the same! I get my proteins from Butcher Box, and my Azure monthly. I also get organic produce from Misfits market online. That is, when my garden isn't producing. Love the quality of these companies. Keeps me out of Kroger! Thanks!

Also, when you're purchasing from Butcherbox you can "cancel" and choose a cheaper option which is the value box and that's $119. (Described as: 100% grass fed & grass finished beef & humanely raised pork & organic chicken.) It's pretty good, but you're not selecting salmon or scallops. Still, it's a great use of the funds to get that particular box. It's cheaper for me to purchase from butcherbox than my local grocery store on many of the items. It didn't use to be that way around here, but sadly these are the times. Re: the yogurt, I think you can freeze them.

Wow, those are some expensive prices. I could never afford to pay that much per pound for meat. We don't like the flavor of grass fed beef - tried it when we were Paleo. But now, I only buy meat when it's on sale at the grocery store, either Vons or Aldi, and I stock my freezer well. We feed my 50 year old nephew 5 or 6 nights a week and he eats as much as me and hubby eat combined, so it's a bit of a challenge these days! I was shocked seeing that Tri-tip you got. I'm in Southern California, and yes, it's an easy-to-find cut here. I buy them when they're on sale for $3.99 or $4.99 a pound untrimmed and trim them myself. I always try to keep a few trimmed and marinated in the freezer (just had it grilled last night with corn on the cob). What a bummer for you that you can't easily find them in Tennessee!
@growandpreserve
@growandpreserve 4 месяца назад
I'm so glad you have found what works for you. Having an extra seat filled at the table so often can get so expensive. So jealous of your access to tri-tips! It's such a great cut, I don't understand why it's so rare on this side of the country.
@justmare111

@@growandpreserve I just found this doing a search: "Butchers on the East Coast often cut tri-tip roast up into sirloin or steak tips, so you can try asking for uncut steak tips." I remembered seeing something on a Bearded Butchers video about it once, but couldn't remember exactly what they used it for instead. Hope this will help you find some at a reasonable price.

Hi Carter! I also buy from butcher box mainly pork chicken fish. I get free h burger and bacon for life. You can freeze your yogurt or you can freeze dry it. I am on batch 3 of my bone broth. 10 pints divided into 4 trays yielded 5 pints freeze dried. It tastes so good. Two chicken finished beef in now! Tomatoes are going out tomorrow and I need to dry marjoram and mints. We went to Sam's yesterday, I came out with mandarins and red potatoes. Prices are crazy high! Have a great week!

WOW! When you first showed the prices, I was thinking, "No way!", but after you broke it down, and considering that you spent almost nothing for 4 months, it seems more reasonable. I've seen several Butcher box hauls recently, but none have mentioned the prices (yes, I can look them up 😊), so thanks for that. Do they guarantee their prices for, say, a year, or do they raise them just whenever?

We to been eating from our stock and 2 freezers.. well I took inventory yesterday and I know I need bacon, but I only like to buy when there’s a sale and I do see a cell which I’ll head out on Tuesday pick up a bunch of the bacon that’s on sale come home, separated, and food saver it up with the food saver machine but I had plenty of chicken. I found two roast pork ribs. I didn’t find any chops I might I might have. I did probably pay attention. Plenty of ground beef. I think I’m going to consolidate to Freezer cause I have two really big coffin style and the other one is a smaller boxing one., both restaurant grade they used to be with me when I had my ice cream shop five years ago.. So I am a weekly ad stock up person so I was not impressed. Are weekly sales come out on Wednesday and they were so high. It’s kind of scary. ..

Carter, where do you purchase your olive and avocado oil? I’ve always purchased at Costco, but wondered if there was a better choice?
@growandpreserve
@growandpreserve 4 месяца назад
I get my EVOO at Costco. They really do seem to have the best price, and the Organic Kirkland brand is one of the ones that was tested a few years ago and found to be true olive oil. Avocado oil is much tougher to find a reliably good price. I do buy from Costco sometimes, but I can usually get a MUCH better deal on it when Vitacost has a 20% food sale. That's when I stock up. If you're not familiar with Vitacost, it's an online store, somehow in the same family as Kroger. Great delivery, super well-packaged. With sales, the pricing can be excellent. If you're interested, sign up for an account and to receive sale notices. They happen reasonably often. I've also found that if I put things in my cart, then log off, I tend to get sent some sort of incentive to complete the purchase. 20% off is my target, though.
