I've never seen such beautiful microgreens! I didn't know you could just continue to let them grow and not harvest them all at once. I've been feeling guilty about eating the lettuce I've been growing for the first time (while it's small [about 4-5 inches tall] LOL). It was supposed to be the start of a garden, but it is delicious.

Good for you, Phoenixx! I grow a ton of lettuce indoors that is not destined for the garden. I harvest as needed, no slugs or snails required!

Make sure you don't use treated seeds for microgreens! Many commercially available seeds are treated. Seeds used for microgreens specifically are untreated.

Carter, I have never grown microgreens before. I would love to try to grow some, I have overhauled my lifestyle this year. I do wonderful with my gardens and canning of it. But, if I can add to my new journey with the added health benefits with them, I am all in. I just placed my order to begin. I was wondering if you could give me ideas on how to store with some recipes on how you use them besides juicing, smoothies, and sandwiches. I am a diabetic and need ideas. I have given up salts and breads for health reasons. I appreciate you, and I love your channel. Thank you, and God bless 🙏
@growandpreserve
@growandpreserve 4 месяца назад
Congrats on making some healthy lifestyle changes, Penny! If I harvest more than I'm planning to use right away, I store them in a green produce bag with a paper towel and just loosely fold the bag over. A ziploc would also work if you leave open enough so humidity doesn't build up in the bag. I add microgreens (and baby greens) to all my salads. In fact, sometimes my salads are just microgreens with a bit olive oil and balsamic. I very often do them in roll-ups that just use slices of turkey, ham or roast beef as the wrapper. Basil microgreens always find their way into spaghetti. Microgreens are excellent for filling spring rolls. They're a great way to add nutrition and flavor to stir fry. They are are fabulous in "bowls". We often do paleo bowls with a base of cauliflower rice that's topped with shredded meat of some kind, and lots of fresh raw veggies...carrots, microgreens, radishes, cucumbers...all drizzled with a chimichurri sauce made from parsley microgreens. Hope these ideas will get you started!

@growandpreserve 4 месяца назад
It is so easy! Yes, I've been freeze drying lots. Working on herbs, of course. But I've also started a "greens" jar for the broccoli, kale, chard, etc when I hit overload! Nice harvest you had today! The weather was so perfect today, I took the opportunity to do some oh-so-fun weeding. The weather report shows us in the 30s Tuesday night, so I'm still lugging what feels like 10,000 plants in and out everyday. Ugh. I'll be so glad to get them in the ground later this week! All your tomatoes are in, right? Peppers too?
@constancebeck2992

@@growandpreserve yes 8 tomato plants 4 peppers 4 broccoli 6 cauliflower, 4 more bok Choi. Lots of onions and garlic and of course the greenhouse full of herbs. I'll go out and cover the tomatoes and peppers tom eve. The rest should be fine. They are saying 37 here, just one night

How often would you say you plant (replant) your microgreens? Do you grown them in succession? That's something I've never grown before, and learning the nutritional value, I'm really thinking of doing so now. Thanks, Carter! :)
@growandpreserve

Hey, Lois! Good to see you. I had a crazy schedule going with them back in Atlanta...about every 3-4 days I would plant one tray, so I always had something ready while the others were in various stages. These days, I have no patience for that! If you just want the microgreens stage (no baby greens), I would plant a new couple of trays every week or so. I like having the leafy greens as well, so I tend to do 4 10x10 trays every 3-4 weeks or so. During the pantry challenge this year, I planted 8 trays on Jan 7, and still had plenty of leafy greens left at the end of Feb. Hope that helps!

@@growandpreserve Thank you, Carter. I'm trying to "clean up" my eating habits, eating much more nutritiously (without breaking the bank). This info does help. I've been keeping up with and watching all your videos, but have watched most from the tv, so not able to comment on those at that time. Just got my patio garden planted, praying for some great harvests throughout the Summer. One of your videos "talked me into" getting a Presto electric canner, so I've been super busy doing some small batch canning, which is much easier on my schedule. I love it! One question for you about it, though... have you ever had any issues at all with it? I think I've made the mistake of reading negative comments in social media groups about it, which is quite unsettling. Anyway, I'm still here (thankfully... especially since I was so sick with Bronchitis and Pneumonia for about 2 months, right after Christmas). As always, enjoying your videos and all the information you pass along to us. :)

@@blessedbeyondmeasure318 Oh, my! I'm so sorry you were so sick for two months. How miserable and frustrating that must have been. I'm so glad you got the Presto Electric canner. I haven't had a single problem with it. I have seen people referencing a negative review about it, but I have also seen the reports on the extensive testing that has been done and continues to be done on it. I have no concerns. It's my first choice for my own pressure canning these days.
