Follow along to see how I made a special Nakiri out of Damascus core San Mai steel from 50.50 Forge. This knife has a carbon fiber handle with a gold flake inlay and brass mosaic pins. It was a lot of work, but a super fun project to work on! Let us know what you think!

We are a team of two brothers that creates handcrafted knives. From the initial designing and grinding of the steel blanks to the final sanding of the handle, each step of the process is done by hand, which makes every knife that comes out of our shop 100% unique. In all of our blades, we strive to combine the clean lines of modern design with excellent performance, so that your knife will do its job properly and look great in the process.

Should make them with rounded tips for better motion up and down!

Thanks for the input! I do actually round the tips off a bit so that you can rock chop with them. It can be hard to see on the videos but it helps a lot. 👍🏼

could have made better use of the steel with a hidden tang handle. could have had enough left over for a pocket knife. Well explained and fun to watch. Keep it up

Lance Millward Thanks! I generally prefer making full tang blades but you’re right that it would’ve saved some material! I did round the tip slightly so that it wouldn’t dig into the cutting board. 👍🏼

Great knife and amazing craftmanship keep up the great work Ps : why do you drill so many holes at the handle of the knife ?
@StarkKnives

Thanks a lot, Alex! They are for both weight reduction and to help the epoxy form a better bond to the handle material.

Thank you very much William! I really appreciate it. Would definitely love to get to that level; I really like Alec's work and videos! We'll keep plugging away. ;-)

I slightly round the tip so it doesn't bike into the cutting board when used.

Thanks a lot, Miguel! Blade length is 4.75 inches, total length 9 inches. I can't recall the exact blade height, but I believe it was about 2 inches.

That s not San Mai it is Damascus.
@StarkKnives
@StarkKnives 4 года назад
It is San Mai with a core of Damascus. The jacket was 1084 and then the Damascus core was 1084/15n20. 😃

Do you start the bevels with 60 grit so it is easier to get the scratches out?
@StarkKnives
@StarkKnives 4 года назад
I feel like it's coarse enough to remove a lot of material, but still have some control. A 36 grit would probably work for taking some of the steel off at the beginning, however, the scratches it leaves are really deep and it's easy to make a mistake with. Hope that helps!

Stark Knives It does!! Thanks. The last few knives I made were beveled with 36 grit and I’ve been sanding the three of them for at least 5 hours total on one side and still not finished.
