Thanks Jason, I watched you years ago when I first starting and have several of your dies and tools, but it's been about 5 years when I last made any rings, and of course a couple of friends that have seen the ones I ware and know I used to make then want me to make them one now. I have retired and moved to Florida, 😢So after going through my tubs trying to find all my ring making tools and extras, I also wanted and needed to watch some videos on the process that I had forgotten much about, this video even though it says you did it a year ago seems very similar to one you made years ago, which I guess makes sense the process shouldn't change much, so thanks again for getting me back on track.

Hi Jason. If been watching Coin ring making for some time now. This video is by far the BEST about How, Why and What? You are really good in explaining things as you do them and as the progress goes on. Thumps up Man, very good Job.

Good information Jason, I've been going the way of much thinner bands myself as well whereas when I first started many many years back, it was all about keeping as much of the coin as possible but that's what is fun about the hobby. We are always learning new things, techniques and methods to create some new and fresh looking that stuns our customers when they see it for the first time. Thanks for always being a leader in the industry especially when it comes to tooling, you're definitely one of the great pioneers of the hobby and it was great to seeing you come out with a new video. Thumbs Up and Likes 👍👍👍👍👍

Hey Jason. So glad to see you back with fresh videos and your smiling face. Loved your class at Rio Grande. Have had compliments on the rings I’ve made based on what I learned there. I’m now interested in the bells. Will look over your supplies to make bells. Happy New Year and much success in 2023.

I just pulled the trigger and purchased your Delux Kit. I did this after viewing many many videos to establish a rudimentary knowledge of coin ring making. Being a semiretired dentist I think I have a fairly good grasp on fairly complicated manipulative skills. I have been successful with quarters and half dollars in creating rings. I recently purchased some early Washington silver quarters. To mu dismay when I attempted to stretch, the first three started to split. This occurred almost immediately after a quarter turn on the stretcher. I varied the initial punch hole starting small and trying to conserve as much metal as necessary. I annealed several times and never observed cracks or defects…I smoothed the cut surfaces. Now I’m gun-shy !!!!! Not enough annealing???? Too much???? I have made several quarter rings before and never encountered this. Before I end up butchering more I just need your input!!!!! Thanx Jason and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Dr Bob
@JasonsWorks
@JasonsWorks Год назад
Hello Robert! Washington silver quarters are tough. Try 7/16" hole, be sure to anneal in a pitch black room and take it to a dull red heat, deburr the edge of the hole. Take it slow, stretch a little at a time and use a 10X jewelers loop to see if you have any stress risers starting. If you catch them early enough, file the cut edge down past the stress riser. Watch around Washington's chin and neck, biggest difference in thickness there. You got this! :)

Best coins to practice on are foreign coins. You can buy them by the pound at my coin place. I bought 5 pounds of foreign coins for 5 bucks! Alot are same size as us coins. Also, foreign coins have some amazing details and look really nice.

I just finished a 20 dollar gold piece for a biker. Don't hurt me lol it was a 1932 St. Gaudens. I know..i know..but he paid good money to have it made and I got to keep the plug and the shavings. So not a bad deal

Jason……I took your advice with the Ben Franklin and SUCCESS!!!! One other question…..You are working on a target size for this ring around 11. If your target would be say a 7, at this point after using the 17deg reduction would you choose the Swedish Wrap to further reduce?? Thank You….Dr Bob
@JasonsWorks
@JasonsWorks Год назад
Yep, you got it. I think about a size 9 is possible with the 25 degree on a half dollar but that will be more fat tire. Reduce in the swede to an 8 or 9 then finish in the 17 or 25 for the look you want.

Thank you for doing that I was able to get a detailed list of all the items needed to make coin rings very interesting interested Tips 1 Camera work is fine it is what it is, 2 Maybe explain sweedin you talked about if you wobble it you use swed to correct 🤔 I think? 3 Is Amazon okay for starter tools Rio kinda 💰 4 how much will you sell that liberty for is there a cap or they well sought after And finally Jason got to answer truthfully How many coin rings do you own You know the not for sale ones 😂 Once again thanks for the know Will keep an eye 👁 out for wire rope vid
@JasonsWorks
@JasonsWorks Год назад
Good questions! 1. Yes, camera work is not my thing, not techy :) 2. I do have videos showing the swede technique. Really good tips in those. 3. Get what you can afford and work your way up. That's how I did it. I'm still improving my tools and sell the old ones to upgrade. 4. Check out www.jasons.works for prices. I'm a bit pricey but there nice rings and guaranteed 5. I have about a dozen personal rings that I would not sell :) Thanks! j

Hi Jason, is it better to stretch the ringreed side down or reed side up? Thanks for great videos, hope to hear back from you.
@JasonsWorks
@JasonsWorks Год назад
I like to stretch the reed side up. It stretches the cut side a little more due to the shape of the stretcher. That helps to get the cut side caught up to the reed side. Only measure the reed side though. The cut side will always be thinner , therefore larger and is why you need to overstretch past your target size.

Good Video. Just wondering, do you feel that Black Max will get the coin much darker than liver of sulphur? Also, do you believe it will stay darker longer when trying to lightly sand off the date etc.?
@JasonsWorks
@JasonsWorks Год назад
I think the black max is a bit better. All patinas, plating, etc will wear off rings though. Rings are to prone to abuse. Some like to do a light patina so there is not a drastic difference when it does wear off.
