Also to say; I use that steel brush on my rotary tool all the time. I would like to seriously caution everyone who uses these to be sure to wear eye protection. I find those little wires stuck all over me at times.

This could be pretty cool if you can find two different metals that react to chemicals differently you could make a golden mountain range with anodized blues and reds in the sky over them I think that could look amazing especially if you do something like a gold mountain with a silver lining then the anodized sky colors

You have given a good base. You could use the piercings as an overlay too or you could line these with sterling and put a comfort edge on them. Great job piercing them by the way.

Fantastic stream (tutorial) Absolutely love your work! The only issue I feel the rings could bend over time! It's the trade off useing soft metals, Anyway 10/10👍

Thanks and yeah they could bend over time. You can make the thicker to help keep that from happening. I made a new version on this ring with a silver core ring that helps make it all stronger and makes it so the copper and brass will not be in contact with your finger

The most important thing I learned here is that solder can flow upwards! The things I did not know! This was equally fascinating as a 'how is it done' mystery solved, as well as an excellent demo, many thanks! ☺ So generous of you to share your knowledge and beautiful craftsmanship. You are an excellent teacher! 😍 After darkening and wire wheel polishing - wow! Superb. I love the contrast!!! Metals in two thicknesses, so clever! I love that raised look with the subtle patina shading, what an artist! The background music gave me a headache and made it hard to hear your voice. Music is not a good idea in demos. 😵‍💫 Natural sounds and voice are very soothing and Zen.

Thanks for sharing this video, I was a little curious about seeing the solder line (it was visible after sanding) that appeared on one of the rings when you were smoothing & buffing out the rings. It is something I have not seen on a finished ring. Was I missing something here? I liked the concept of using two two diffent metals for the end effect here.

Yeah, on copper you will have a solder line. You can try an hide it with some copper plating buy from what I have seen in the past, most people really don't care about it 😊

I’ve not been making rings for a long time but I’m about to make a dark crystal ring. I’ve already made the base ring all I need to do now is add the crystal. do you know what kind of glue I should use?

So if using more expensive metals like gold and silver, is there any way to make such a single ring (only one per design) using half the material? Or would that involve just making the gauge of sheet and width of ring band thinner? Also, with the difference in melding/heating temps between two metals, how do you know what solder to use for your joint, and do you heat one piece more (longer than the other to get an even temp or is that not a worry? Really like this idea. Also really like puzzle rings that aren’t soldered together but fit like this. Good video!

Hi. Id love to try make a bangel with this idea. This tyoe of technique i guess. I am thinking if i order 0.5mm in one material and the other in 0.5mm then glue together same technique as i said butbin bagle form. Do you think that wouod work? Or would it be too thick? So if you want them to have different thickness like my copper and brass ones, I just used 0.6mm copper and 0.8mm brass. As for the saw blade, I used the 3/0 for all of this even though bits not really meant to cut metal that is that thick. 😁👍

Just use different thickness of metal. Like the copper and brass ones that I have I used 0.6mm copper and 0.8mm brass. Make sure to solder them on a flat surface so the inside can me more flat and the out side will have more of a protrusion.

For many people, copper and brass will turn their skin green. You could avoid that with this project by making a very thin gauge inner silver ring as a "liner". Some people also dip their copper and brass work in clear lacquer which may also help with keeping it from tarnishing. The lacquer will wear off over time tho, especially with an everyday ring.

Clear hard resin is very good for sealing the metal if you want to do that 😁👍

Help, I used 18 gauge copper and sterling glued them together then sawed the pieces. Then torch unglued them. Now when I go to solder the copper and sterling mountains don’t fit snuggly together because the saw blade created a gap the width of the blade. Since solder won’t fill gaps what do you suggest I do? Use plain paper and Cyanoacrylate to hold it on the piece you will have no worry about it lifting off when cutting the paper and glue can then be sanded off when needed.

Yeah that would also work well for this. I use the label paper on larger pieces of metal so it has a kinda brim to them and it has no problem with sticking. It's just when it's a tight fit that it becomes a problem 😊. That being said I will do that in the future.

I used a 3/0 to cut them into the ring blanks and after I glued them together I still used the same blade even though you should use something else. 😁👍

So the earliest way to keep the silver Frome reacting with peoples skin is to line the inside of the ring in silver. Basically a silver core. Just about all clear coats that I have used don't last very long.

Yes but you would have to buy a pre done ring core or cut one out with a lathe seeing that you can make it from a sheet of it

Just keep in mind that you can't really solder stainless steel so you will have to make the outer banks press fit or keep it on with a glue

Question, please HELP. I followed your instruction but used my own drawing. Here’s my problem I need help with: the saw blade leaves a small gap the size of the blade so when I put the copper and sterling pieces together b4 soldering there is a slight gap. Solder is not supposed to be used to fill gaps so I am not sure what to do. Please respond and thank you in advance.

Question And maybe I missed this. What sealer do you use for the copper? I find that the copper turns the finger green. I and looking for a good sealer for copper jewelry.

So the sealers that I have used in the past work but they really don't last that long depending on how acidic the persons skin is. One thing that you can do that might last a lot longer is use a clear UV resin.

does your ring mandrel have sizing marks at the top of it? Measer from the 0 down to what ever size you what and that should be the lenth you need

No, don't use e6000 to do this. It's just going to make a mess and will not hold up over time. This is more or less a soldering project. Also don't use a soldering iron or soft electrical solder, you will need a torch and hard silver solder. 😊👍

When you want to soften silver, do you heat it, then let it cool without dipping it in water?

You heat it up and you can let it cool or put it into water, it really doesn't matter

Al little truck I use for blackening... Just lightly heat the ring until the firescale starts to form and darken. It's more permanent than chemicals, and can bring blues, reds, and greens into your copper. Lightly buff and then seal. 😁✌️

Thanks and you can do that by coating the inside with a clear coat or even making the inside using a thin bit of silver on the inside will last the longest. 😁👍

How do you harden the rings so they don't deform when they have something pressed hard against them? For example whilst working

Well hammering them in to the ring shape will work harden the metal but if you really want to you can throw then into a tumbler and that Weill also help work harden the metal. 😁👍

Hey, to start off thank you for the wonderful tutorial however I had one question. When I tried using your math formula, Instead of measuring the inside of a ring that was the size I wanted, I measured the outside of the mandrel. I was aiming for a size 8, and used a 23 gauge or about .5 mm piece of sheet metal. I got about 18.5 from the outside of mandrel, added the width of the sheet metal and cut out a 59 mm blank. It was a size short, could you help me figure out what I did wrong?

You followed the instructions just fine. The bit I think he missed is that you need to double the thickness of the sheet you’re measuring for the math because that sheet will lay around the mandrel, so it needs to be accounted for twice when adding it to the diameter.
