Recap by Tammy AI
I just have to say a big thank you. These tips are SO helpful. Since working at home full time, I have had all sorts of eye problems (blurry vision, double vision, irritation, glasses just seem “off”) and neither my optometrist or my ophthalmologist suggested ANY of the options you’ve shown here (or in previous videos). But since finding your channel and making sure to take a break and refocus several times a day, adjusting the light from the screens, practicing with the Brock String a few minutes each day (really helped with the double vision) my eye strain and vision has improved substantially. One thing that may help others, my office desk is near a window, and I didn’t realize how much glare was coming in. I got some good quality Glare Control Window film (it’s like sunglasses for your window) at the home store (it’s easy to apply, watch some youtube videos) and since adding that to my window, it’s made a great improvement as well.
Thanks for all of this... I "force blink" a lot during the day, but also practice 20/20/20 - every 20 minutes, I take a break, and look at something 20 feet away (outside my window) for 20 seconds.
Hi Dr. Allen, It is great that you are reducing strain, to change your refractive state, from -0.75 Diopters to +0.25 Diopters. Or from 20/50, to 20/20. More people should follow your strain relief program and achieve the result I achieved. Thank you!
I appreciate this video. At least an added step to eye health. Since 23, my eyesight has gone down significantly. I use the computer a lot and read a lot for work. I've seen many optometrists and a few opthomologists. All they do is give me higher prescriptions. No matter how much I express my concern, none have provided any further care or advice outside of increasing my prescription. I think, like other medical professions, some Drs care about health, and some Dr just focus on providing medicine.
Yep, been there done that. It took four years for me to be listened to. My regret is that I waited that long instead of just sorting it out for myself. Don't let yourself go down the road of ever higher prescriptions and don't expect an optician to listen to you on this.
So few eye doctors have any clue about vision therapy. I had severe convergence insufficiency and mentioned my vision issues to my optometrist (I saw one who worked out of a Lenscrafters). She told me it was nothing to worry about and it was just because I turned 40. It took several years for me to get it diagnosed by a chiropractor of all people who figured out my eyes were contributing to my dizziness. I really think testing for convergence insufficiency needs to be part of regular eye exams.
It really should be, it’s something every eye doc had to learn, sadly, a lot of…”refraction shops” don’t test much beyond the basics. It’s amazing how a quick cover test will reveal so much. Glad you got some help
I would add a note of caution to the pencil push-ups. They aren't right for everyone and can actually do more harm than good. I was given these when I shouldn't have been and ended up in a worse situation for a bit. I prefer the Brock String as this is a bit longer and a gentler exercise and for myself I can stop a little further away than the recommended close point.
I have had serious issues with my eyes 👀 👀 double vision. The brock string helps to control it IF I maintain my exercises on a daily basis. I'm already 67, it affects seriously my quality of life when I want to read or to use my laptop for a relatively long while. I'm optimistic and hopefully it will get better and better until it's completely gone? Knock wood! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Hi, Dr Allen. Isn't it important to go for a thorough Binocular Vision Assessment instead of starting the exercises on own? Because a prescribed therapy regimen provides exercises to balance between the Convergence and Divergence. Additionally, finding out if the person is having CI, CE, DI, DE, Basic Exophoria or Basic Esophoria along with AI, AIF or Ill Sustained Accommodation can give a clear idea which exercises are suitable for that person. Using transperant life saver card under guidance of Optometrist can be more effective than Pencil Push Up.
Very well said! It is indeed the best course of action. That’s exactly why I encourage people to speak with a local eye doctor. However, many people has asked for basic info on eye exercise to help with eyestrain, and these are probably some of the most accessible ones. Lifesaver card is also a fun one! I hope to have some videos in the near future going more in depth of vision rehab exercises/ programs.
Hi Sir...Please reply me😢I am dealing with alot of eye strain both during the day and night...Last year i was dignosed with nearsightedness and astigmatism (-2 diopters).I was prescribed Transtion with blue AR coating but this prescription is not working. Can you advice me😢please sir
Thanks you doctor for the useful video! I have dry eye and kinda high level of myopia and less than -1 astigmatism, the doc recommended ICL. Based on research, how likely is it for the procedure to cause glaucoma and cataracts? Would you do it for yourself? Thanks!
Thank you! I will try these exercises. I have seen double since I was a child. Reading was a challenge and still is. When I read I will either not see a word or I will see a different word. If it doesn't make sense I will reread it until it does. I had a head injury and a lesion above the nerve of my right eye which I was told controls my left eye. Over time my left I went really lazy. The neurologist said my brain gave up trying to keep that eye straight. Maybe because I see very little from it I don't know. The insurance I had said it was just cosmetic, so they were not going to pay for the operation that would actually allow me to be able to get a prism in the glasses so I could stop seeing double. I asked my eye doctor if just doing exercises would help bring that eye back in alignment and she said no. I have 20/15 in my right eye but have dry eyes so sometimes my vision gets blurry and even once to the point I couldn't see at all so I try to keep them moistened.
Do you have a recommendation regarding the best "K" rating for overhead light bulbs in a small home office? I presently have 3,000 K bulbs and I've been told I'd do better with a 4,000 to 5,000 k bulbs. Any recommendations?
Dr. Allen, I work at a private optometrist office in Bloomington Indiana. We offer a special new type of lens here at our office called Neurolens. Would love if you checked out the technology for yourself and could do a video on it. It's a really great company, really great community, and helping real people with real problems. Hope this comment finds you well, love your videos, watch all the time for some extra education. Thank you!! :)
Doctor I have wierd eye strain on left eye only and one big ass floater on Left eye too went to doctor and said that I have 1.5 stigmatism on left eye and said strain come from this stigmatism and floater can come from eye strain or aging and said no cure for floater and describe me glasses the glasses make me feel better on left eye but not perfect still feel the strain some times specially when not wearing glasses can floater disappear it's very annoying do you know any working medicine for floaters and eye strain
Hey Doc! First time watching your content and absolutely love it. I'm guilty for not taking care of my eyes. Thank you for enlightening me about my diplopia as well. I have a small question to ask. I know that eyes focus automatically to produce a clean and sharp image but I myself have to focus this images willingly to produce a clean and sharp image. What is this called?
Nice videos Dr but my main questioning is I recently heard acuvue oasys discontinued their transition contact lanes. Can you make a video over that and suggest if any other company coming out with something better if you know of. Will deeply appreciate your input on this matter. Thanks
Hi, I need help!!! Can this be used for eyelid hygiene? Is it the same as your’s recomnded hypochlorus acid solutions? It’s cheap and easily available to me. Vital baby HYGIENE AQUAINT® sanitising water
This might sound weird but I feel like my eyelashes give me irritation also. I cut them short so they won’t irritate me. Is it safe to cut them a lot when they grow?
That is a new one for me! Usually people are bothered by short eyelashes or not enough of them 😄 I wonder if curling them would be better? Otherwise cutting them may make a course/ obtuse edge and they may poke the eyelids? The lashes are otherwise supposed to help prevent dust and debri from getting in the eyes. Either way, good question for your local doc and if they have other options to consider.
Doctor hello, I am looking for a possible solution to my problem. I had covid and subsequently found retinal degeneration, probably caused by myopia and genetics which I corrected with a laser barrage. The problem is that since my first visit I am having more and more myopes, I am extremely worried, I am drinking 3 liters a day, I am training hard, I am taking all the necessary supplements and yet it increases. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you
I have a strong fear that I will not be able to stop this increase in myodesopias and therefore have to have a vitrectomy. This generates a feeling in me as if I have not understood the cause that is generating this. Could it be the covid that through the Spike protein is creating clots in the vitreous?
Hi Dr. Allen, I research bout the Blue light filter that some doctor recommended FL-41 tint also called migraine glasses, may ask is it true and what is this?
Hi, thanks for all the info but there is one thing I'm wondering if it does really help, those blinking exercise some DR give out. Like blink for 2 sec , 10 times every 12 minutes...To stop being a partial blinker. It's a lot of work but does it really re-educated our muscle memory? Thanks
Clue in the name “eye STRAIN” doing exercises is a no go as you are putting more load onto your eye muscles. I’ve suffered chronically for 7 years with this and the only real way to alleviate symptoms is by resting the eyes E.G closing them and keeping them shut or sleeping. It’s also important to make sure you are getting adequate sleep - atleast 8 hours uninterrupted as sleep deprivation will destroy them quicker.
I'm considering vision correction surgery, I am pretty badly shortsighted 😢, I think it's -5 or worse. The optometrist tried different lens but my sight didn't get better (tested on Snellen Eye chart). I'm in my mid 20s and don't have any diabetes or blood pressure related comorbidities. I also live in a dusty environment & have itchy eyes so I'm trying to get that under control before surgery. How crucial is a clean room & non itchy eyes for any sort of vision correction surgery?.
Interesting question! It would depend on any tear film instability causes by allergies, dryness, inflammation etc. most of the time, probably not the biggest deal. Most surgeons would probably recommend to use artificial tears 3-4x a day in prep for the surgery. But I would ask the surgeon at your eval. Hope that helps
@@DoctorEyeHealth Thank you Dr!. That was very helpful. You explained well & cleared my confusion. I'll get an eval & get prescription tears. I'll check out eye wipes too. It's also a matter of habit and dusty environment for me. In the process of clearing them too.
Good question. I would personally but that's because I have plusses for longsightedness and the whole point of the video is about avoiding eyestrain. I guess it depends what your glasses are for.
is this the same with DELAYED EYE FOCUS? i experience that blurredness when i MOVE MY HEAD quickly. for example, when i am running forward, and someone is calling me from behind, so i'll have to turn my head quickly to check who is calling me--- my vision turns blurred for 1-2 seconds before i can see clearly. same thing happen if i move my head back to the looking forward position to continue running (blurred again for 1-2 seconds before i can see clearly) same thing again happen when i look for something URGENTLY that i had to move my head and eyes fast so i can see the missing item as quick as possible. my eye focus cannot catch up and my vision turns blurred for even longer seconds (3-5 seconds or longer or i had to forcefully focus to see again) is this ciliary/accomodation spasm too? or age related problem? digital eye strain? 😢 I AM STILL 31 YEARS OLD, and i dont have dry eyes. hope you can answer 🙏
if when i wear a ortho k lense and they are not correctly on the black part of the eye but i slide the lense back to the black part of the eye and then they are perfectly fit on the eye my question is should i stop sliding the lense on the black part or take them out and wear them again
eyes are a muscle if you don’t train those muscles, then your vision gets blurry no need for glasses. Just train long distance and short distance for a while.
Hi doc. I need your help. My eyes like to tear when i mostly talk to people and like make eye contacts. And i feel embaresed when this happens and its been like this for almost a year now😥and my eyes sometimes feel dry in like windy or cold weather. Im 15, and i realy dont know whats wrong😥please help
I would definitely get an eye check for this. If you've watched some of DrEyeHealth's other videos he has quite a bit to say about dry eyes which could be something for you to check out. I wonder if reading and bright lights are also a problem for you? It sounds like this is a recent change for you. Just out of interest - what is close-up like after you have been doing something energetic - does it become more blurry? I would definitely go for a check up and see what could be going on and find out what could help.
@@BlacksquareableThank you. I wil ask my mom and we wil check it out. After excercise my vision is perdectly fine. Could it be because i have glasses but never wear them?
@@GearShiftGaming-j5n It might be if you find the glasses help and are comfortable to wear but if you've had them for quite a while then it's worth going for a check up anyways. You are young so your eyes could be changing a bit faster.
Hello doctor, thanks for this video. I have developed bad blinking habit since a panik attack / bad anxiety 2.5 months ago (following some weird events, I know it's not smart but the past is the past, I was ignorant about the importance of blinking...). Today, my eyes are most of the time irritated and red without pain. I feel my eyes are also tired recently. I notice in some videos I made that I automatically don't blink very often now, like 1-2 spontaneous blinks per minute. It's like I unconsciously prevent myself from blinking. In fact, I'm tired of blinking forcefully. Is it possible to "disorganize" our blinking rate with bad habit ? Or is it "just" an hyperfocus on blinking due to anxiety ?
It mostly depends on age, the younger a person is (such as below the age of 25) the more likely indoor/ near tasks may increase the risk of myopia development. Otherwise, if the eye is done growing, the refractive changes mostly occur due to aging changes of the ocular structures (such as the lens inside the eye). There is otherwise, limited evidence that screens will cause myopia to develop specifically. (Video on this coming soon)
@@DoctorEyeHealth thanks for the response, do you recommend any good textbooks to understand vision problems, for the layman, and the solutions to each?
I'm currently experiencing pretty bad eye fatigue from a long gaming session. I'm trying to get to sleep but it hurts. Took an ibuprofen to try and help because it's a bit painful. Didn't notice anything until i got off the game. This is very uncomfortable to say the least and I won't be gaming so long moving forward
