How I Moved to Dominica after a Life in London

Not because I am from there but Dominica is like unique gem. It has a different look from the other islands in its intense green ruggedness. They joke that it is the only island that Columbus would recognize if he were to come back today. Low crime, ecological healthy and preserved landscape, an abundance of clean water from the many rivers ahhh my favorite spot on earth.

This is not indicative of everywhere in Dominica. I live in Portsmouth and I have great internet speed from Digicel. Roseau may not be a town to you but it is to us. No skyscrapers, factories and pollution yet but we getting there. Yes, Our roads needs improvement but they are far better than some roads I've seen. Check ' deadliest roads Nigeria documentary' on RU-vid. We all got our inadequacies. Dominica is a rugged natural and beautiful country. Like many other countries it's not perfect.

As a 1st generation Dutch-Ghanaian I completely resonated with the inherent gravitation towards the Caribbean. I’ll never forget the immediate sense of peace I felt when I visited Jamaica the first time! I have dreamt of settling in the Caribbean for as long as I can remember. It’s unexplainable but it’s a yearning I’ve always felt deeply. God willing I can realise my dream soon 🙏🏾

when its the season for the fruit or vegies youre able to get more than double the amount. as someone in my early 40's i have seen alot of development regarding infrastructure prior to 10 years ago.....

All of this is not true. That’s absolutely ridiculous. Not sure why the lady is disappointed. If you wanted the tube and huge buses you should have remained in London or move to the US or Canada, not the nature isle of the world.

Hi my parents are both from Dominica and it was sad to hear how disappointed Taiwo was with the island. I have only visited a couple of times to stay with family for a while and then by myself as a stepping stone to attend a conference in Barbados. I understand everything Taiwo was saying about the infrastructure and the expense...and this was over 15 years ago, but I still loved it! The people are kind and genuine. Perhaps some more research before going would have helped her. Dominica is one of the few islands to maintain its beautiful rugged terrain and natural eco-tourism without modern tourism ruining her as it has done to so many of the the other islands in the Caribbean. You need to think sustainability, grow your own food, make your own things or get to know local people who can make things for you. My brother and his family still live there and I remember him telling me when I went over, don't expect to find England in Dominica or you will be disappointed. I took him at his word and I was not disappointed. I have also lived and worked in both Bermuda and Bahamas, many years ago but I'm happy to be back in the England... I'm not quite ready to live abroad yet but Dominica is definitely on my list. I hope things have since improve for Taiwo. I'm a Dominican reside abroad I know how the system work in Dominica, that woman wasn't prepare to relocate to Dominica the internet service isn't bad in Dominica and isn't better other islands I have been most of the islands and cost of living is expensive all of the islands I visited, the only island you’ll find most people share wifi Dominica,

My husband's Dominican, why would I be so rude about an island which I love? I'm all about critical thinking and observation, and that to me is about my authentic experience of living in 🇩🇲.

I can only imagine, the purpose of moving to places like this is to live a different life. Real food vs junk food. Perhaps if she lives like the locals it won't be so expensive. I mean, why would you want to live off cereal and chocolate bars. Stay in london for that. I need another expat interview from dominica
