Thanks for the awesome video. I just got a LiteAF fanny pack as well, big fan of it. I like having a separate fanny pack because if I take my pack off to climb something I still have my snacks, phone, and small bits and bobs.
It is awesome that you were able to do the entire AT with a hammock. I've got everything I need for a thru-hike, but I'd get a better tarp before stepping off. Thanks for the inspiration and the documentation that it can be done.
Thanks for showing us how you pack, I'll be trying it for my short hike next weekend. Especially liked you shots of how it looked inside the pack! After watching this I went back and watched your 2014 vlog on the Laurel Mountian Highlands Trail Hike. I really liked seeing how your equipment has changed in the past 5 years. I may have to go back and watch more of the older vlogs.
Here we are again! Back in your Pens man cave! I commented back when you entered PA - because right at that time, the Cindys were knocked out of the playoffs, but I was just breaking your horns. Its all in good fun. As a Jersey boy (Rangers fan), I appreciated the respect you'e shown to my home state. Oh and glad that girl kept your fish alive! Congrats on finishing, congrats on landing a better job, congrats on the upcoming wedding. My advice to a new couple is don't be afraid to have lots of babies. Good luck to you.
Hey Jason it has been a year since I watched this video and my reason for stopping buy today is that I just received my new Outdoor Vitals Shadowlight 60 L backpack weighing in at 2#. Now it's time to dial back on some more gear. As always thanks for all of you help. God Bless
Going out on a three niter down in Wayne National Forest (Archers Fork Loop/Scenic River) this Friday. The pack is already packed but its getting repacked again tonight. lol... Great pack job Frozen!
Great video it’s good to see you still putting out content! Your AT TH videos were by far my favorite of the year! Can’t wait to see the next ones. Keep up the good work and thanks for inspiring future Thru-Hiker’s likes myself!
The shoulder straps are really freaking comfy, but you have to be around a 12lb or lower baseweight for it to feel good. They have a frame pack now too that can carry more weight.
Awesome setup! Have been wanting to see something like this and get an idea on storage on these types of packs. Appreciate the video! Good luck with the physical therapy!
Great video! It’s funny how something that seems like it’s be so simple can actually prove to be difficult. Packing your pack the correct way really does make things easier. I was wondering if you also had a specific way of setting up and breaking down your hammock/tarp setup?
Then another company comes along in a few years and outs you out of business before they realize the true potential. There is a demand they and they can fill it like every other cottage vendor out there. People are willing to wait months for these hoodies because it's a good price and good design.
I enjoyed the video. I noticed that you put your hammock & quilt liners in the bottom of your bag, it looked like they were in waterproof bags. Anyway, what I'd REALLY like to see is a one or two part series where you come into camp and it is pouring rain and you set up. What comes out of your pack & when, how do you keep dry things, well, dry, your cook set up and as it continues to pour, how you get ready for bed and finally button everything up. Then for the second part, you wake up to pouring rain and do a complete breakdown and set off hiking. And, if you were able to compare your hammock setup to what things would look like if you were tenting instead. My view is that pretty much anyone can figure out how to easily setup and teardown when the weather is nice but when it is pouring rain and you need to keep dry gear dry and get in and out of your shelter it is much more of a challenge. While you may pack up your tent when it isn't raining and put in the bottom of your bag, if it is soaking wet you aren't likely to do that.
That's why the tarp goes on the outside in the mesh pocket. If it's raining it's the the first thing to go up, while everything else stays dry in the liner and pack. Once that's up, you just work under the tarp. Rain in the morning... Then the tarp is one of the last things to go in the pack, in the mesh pocket away from anything else that needs to stay dry.
Great video! I took your advice on the LiteAF food bag and Lawson Line. I could go with everything I have right now although I am very seriously considering replacing my BA Copper Spur HV UL1 for something lighter and more room. Getting ready to buy my plane ticket soon👍
I'll check out your gear videos. I am getting a Melanzana next month. My son lives in CO. I was thinking of not using the puffy down but wasn't sure it the Melly would be warm enough. How cold did the AT get? I'm planning PCT 2020 it gets very cold over here. I started this channel recently after seeing your Kinemaster video. Thank you.
I'm a new subscriber to your channel and have been inspired by your recent Appalachian Trail thru-hike accomplishment my brother and I are planning on thru-hiking northbound starting in March of 2020 and we are also going to stay in Maine when we get there I was wondering if you had any advice or Trail mileage you would like to share with us before we take off
Hammock is in with my quilts at the bottom of the pack in my waterproof(resistant) bag. If the straps are wet I'll take those off and put them in the mesh outside as well.
I started using a hammock with a bug screen last year. Works well however whenever I have exposed skin pressed up against the fabric those buggers bite me right through the fabric. Suggestions? Thanks
Awesome video. I want a liteaf pack so bad.but it mite be a year or 2 before I can afford one. I use a Gossamer Gear 35 litler pack. But want a liteaf so bad.
Excellent video, would you use that curve 35 on a different thru-hike like the PCT or CDT where there are longer water and food carries? Or was that pack just perfect for the AT? Thanks again for the video.
Have you done a video on where you can//can not hammock and stealth pack? I remember the smokies were pretty much sheltee only (unless folks bumped through hikers out of the shelters ... Considerate rules ... Hmmm ) anyway it would be cool to know stretches where i could hammock to my hearts content as well as find out where that's not such a good idea.
There's too many sections to cover. You can hanmmock anywhere there aren't signs saying you can't camp. New York, whites, and smokies have their own rules.
@@FrozensAdventures I'm attempting the cranberry lake 50 next month. I figure if I make it halfway I have to finish since it would be the same mileage to get back to the car 😄
Hey I had another question about food on the trail. Would it be better to just buy food from stores as I go or buy a lot of meal packs off line before I got?
A little of both is ideal if you have someone to help send you stuff. There are certain towns that are very small and only a gas station to supply in so that's where I usually sent my boxes.
Thank you for the Video! Nice bag. I would suggest at least some butt wipes (hygiene) and sewing kit. I am an inside girl so it's just my opinion (I would want a man with a gun in the woods cuz of bears)... peace and hugs KP
First aid in ditty bag. No point for a gun, unless I am walking around in the city of crazies. A 9mm isn't going to stop a bear unless it's a headshot. You won't have time to fire a gun at a bear unless it's coming from far down the trail. I've been bluff charged before just tell and raise your trekking poles. In grizzly country bring beer spray. In polar bear country. Carry something bigger.
