Watercolour demonstration on how to paint watercolour greetings cards. Use your skill to make some money to pay for more artists materials. / purewatercolour
Thanks so much about how one would go about creating watercolor cards. It was very informative and gives this mere beginner some ideas. Thank you for the time you took for demonstrating.
It's a great idea. I did that while recuperating from surgery and gave them as little thank you gifts for people who came to visit or ones who brought meals. They really appreciated the personal touch.
I painted all my Christmas cards last year, think I got 4 out of A3 size paper.I was really pleased with the results. It's a great idea, lots of good practice too.Now about to look at more of your tuition, thank you.
Hello-- I recently found your RU-vid channel and after viewing a couple of your videos, subscribed and watched a few more. I really like your style, your approach, and your commentary. You are performing an invaluable service for aspring watercolorists, and it is very much appreciated.
Gbe Nother Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I pleased if others can gain something from my videos, I remember learning myself it was a long hard road. Now RU-vid is hear you can learn pretty much anything if you have the desire. thanks again :)
Hi, love the tutorial, I've been struggling with watercolours for years, yet never quite seem to get it 'right'. You make it look so easy and your cards are wonderful, I'll definitely be trying to paint some, thank you for helping others with your knowledge and demonstrations :)
Just lovely!!! I loved all of the small paintings. I especially loved the Christmas snow scene. I learn much from your videos and really appreciate your sharing with all of us. I also have made cards ,but doing them the way you have all on one sheet of paper is a Great idea. Thanks. Now if I could learn to paint as good as you I'll be really happy!!!
Mary Caloiaro Thanks Mary like most things worth doing its just practice, practice ,practice! I really enjoy doing the cards too its fun and relaxing you see results very quickly. Thanks for posting and please keep watching.
Thanks for the idea. I have loads of photos from various places I've lived that would make good little paintings. I also like how you mention that this is great practice. I need more practice painting.
Marcey Manning Its good to have lots of reference photos when the weather is bad or i am not feeling like going out painting, out come my reference photos . Happy painting and feel free to ask questions any time :)
Sharon LaBarge Hi Sharon thank for you comment. Your right its a great project to do along side children also. Have fun and should you need extra info you can contact me here or at my website www.purewatercolour.com or Facebook facebook.com/PureWatercolour
I do, sometimes I just cut a little jewel out of a bad painting. The small part that really worked. I use deckle scissors, double stick tape and stick them to blank cards. They look great!
@@tillygirl56 That's a great idea. I'm a perfectionist, so I often am not satisfied with my art but I can usually find something within a painting that I am pleased with.
I make lots of cards and find they are much appreciated. Only sometimes do I set out to paint a card. More often they are made from cropped sketches and experiments which would otherwise be consigned to the bin. I find it liberating to know that I'm not wasting expensive paper or paints, and as a last resort there are always the backs!
I love thee. There are some easel and frame dies available for use in a manual die cutting machine. That might be a nice presentation too and they could be display by the receiver because of the easel.
I can imagine you sitting outside the Mermaid on the sea wall in St Marys , enjoying a pint with your Pochade box in hand, last time there was 2001 doing botany forays, very interesting video, I"ll give it a go, thanks for sharing , Mike
you won't regret learning to paint in watercolor. If you want to learn more join me at Purewatercolour.com and join in the forum where you can upload your work for critique, take part in my watercolor tutorials. Hope to see you there!
Hello, I have just found your channel. I love your style, your tutorials, and your approach to your work. Also, you remind me of my stint in England. I miss it very much. Thank you for these.
hey Patrick, thanks very much for the video again, i just made my first watercolor landscape after i paint the ocean scene with your tour, and just want to let you know your video is encourage me a lot with my own work, apart from i am learning new skill from them , after i see how you paint your picture i am less nervous about making mistakes or ruining my pictures, in the end of the day every mistake is a step toward to the best one :) thanks
I love your little paintings! Could you do a demo of the upper left painting sometime? It looks like the trees are framing some kind of pond or field. I'm a sucker for little things and miniatures so anytime you want to do more demos of these little paintings, I'd love to see them. Thanks!
Not only did I learn about making these little masterpieces, but also a couple of English words to think about.... and use to confuse other American English speakers: thrift (maybe I would know that if I lived near the sea...) and faff. Latter made me laff. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this idea Patrick. Even if we don't produce mini masterpieces that can be sold at least it affords a good opportunity to practice.
Cotswolds Retreat Hi, Pleased to see you have a reply link now :) I'm sure with a bit of practice you could be selling yours if you wanted. Look forward to seeing your work at some point.
Patrick Ley-Greaves I managed to trawl through the various settings and found what it was that was stopping anyone from replying to my comments. It wasn't obvious by any means!
I live in Cornwall and have started to exhibit my work , I find I have to drop my prices at craft fairs etc . The art group I belong to exhibit our work once a year in a gallery where my painting sell at triple the price of the craft fairs so I know its not that my paintings are rubbish ..life is strange .. Maybe card making is the way to go for me ..
Hi there, do you buy A6 or A5 aperture cards if the A4 sheet you paint on is divided into 6 paintings. Can you please tell me where I can buy the cards you buy? Loving your tutorials and the compositions you have chosen to paint. Thank you
It's a bit of a shame when RU-vidrs don't go back to answer questions from the past. I also wanted to know how he glued the pieces on/in. And l can't find aperture cards in our largest Canadian craft store.
Question Patrick... DO you sign your paintings? Or do you put your address or contact info on the back of the card in case people want to order more paintings from you? Thanks in Advance
Hi, I really love this video and have subscribed to your channel. Please can you advise me the best way to get started in using watercolours? I am an absolute beginner. Many thanks.
Chris Alves It will be good to have you along Chris. The platform that is hosting my course seems pretty straight forward so far so accessing the course should be pretty plain sailing!
jeff Lewis I bought the blank cards from a company in the Uk called craft creations. www.craftcreations.com/ then I just paint the pictures on ordinary watercolour paper and put inside the card. Hope that helps.
I have a question about copyright. If we paint your lessons, are we allowed to sell them without infringing on your copyright? I know we can't paint your work exactly, but I want to be fair and honest.
Also remember that if you want to sell your cards for profit (UK), you need to register via HMRC www.gov.uk/working-for-yourself?step-by-step-nav=01ff8dbd-886a-4dbb-872c-d2092b31b2cf
This sooo good...Great information... question: I live here in the USA... how much is 5 pounds in American money? ... and what size is that card? >>> "Thank you" for a great tutorial and helping me to understand how to sell my greeting cards..
Under 5£ a card and you still make money with it? Those cards are really expensive here and paper is also not free... where do you get those cards with envelopes and plastic envelope cheap enough to make actual money with that? And the shop you sell through doesn't want any money?
Quid is a slang for pound. Why keep asking how much pounds are in American Money? Jusst use Google. It will tell you exactly how much it is in 'American money'...
Are you selling all rights in the artwork?? Including the buyer's right to reproduce and sell unlimited copies?? Might want to check if you're automatically protected by copyright law, or need to say something more, or don't care. Otherwise your artwork might go commercial at some greeting card company without any compensation to you, the original artist.
If you think that I would buy product that interfere with my pleasure of looking FIRST of it, you got to be kidding. I hate commercials putting in my face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
