One thing that I do to ease the work load on Friday is to divide the cleaning and cooking into 2 days. Thursday I focus on cleaning (bathrooms, floors, laundry and making sure each room is tidy) and Friday I focus on food and last minute things that always come up with having a big family. That way I’m not super stressed and exhausted on Friday. It has really helped! ☺️☺️
That’s what I do too. Except I do the cooking the day before and the cleaning on Friday. Cleaning can always be stopped as it isn’t necessarily essential to get everything done, but food is a must.
My husband and I had misguided priorities when we met 8 years ago (work, money, status, comfort). I'm 34 now and pregnant with our first, due late June. It's so easy to keep the house tidy now as he doesn't use much so even if I need to pick up after him it doesn't take long. I'm hoping to have good systems to keep us out of excess when baby arrives and gets older. I'm impressed by how there's not a ton of toys all over your house.
Loved this video, so helpful! It makes me so happy to see other people keeping the Sabbath :) we have been keeping the Sabbath for 7 years now and it has been a HUGE blessing. The whole family always looks forward to it:) Makes me really sad when people say God’s commands are bondage when really God had the intention of taking care of His people by the commandments He gave them!
“I think we cling to structure so much because it typically evades us.” I’ve never related so much to a phrase. Thank you for giving me the words to how I feel. Thank you for giving us some insight to Sabbath preparation!!
I used to work myself to death on Friday trying to cook a bunch of food and clean and do laundry etc…and it was becoming a burden. Then The Most High laid it in my heart that it’s not important. It’s about peace and test not having a spotless house with a bunch of food. Now I just do what I can and if I don’t have a lot of different dishes that’s fine. If the house is not spotless it’s fine (it’s hard to keep the house sparkling with little ones)…I enjoy my sabbaths now. Thank you for sharing your routines. Very helpful. Blessings from the Most High!
This is the first video of yours I have ever watched, and I immediately subscribed. What a breath of fresh air! This is not at all the most important part of your video, and I pray this isn't offensive in any way, but let me share with you what personally ministered to me. You have a lovely but "beautifully imperfect" home. You obviously steward it well, and have decorated it to your liking, while being thoughtful of your family. In my experience it has been extremely rare to see homes online that are "normal", middle-class homes. I have a nice home, which often feels small to me with eight people living in it, but is huge to much of the modern world. Even though I know I'm blessed, it's such a battle fighting covetousness and learning to embrace contentment when all you see are perfect spacious homes. I live in an affluent area, so it isn't just an online thing that I'm choosing to see. Again, I hope this doesn't seem rude!!! You have encouraged me by sharing your home to really keep pressing into God for thankfulness and contentment and to continue to ask him to take away perfectionist tendencies that make small his great gifts and make hospitality harder. God bless you and your family.
I really hope I don't offend you but I just saw your comment about perfectionism, which I have struggled with all of my life, and I just recently learned that it comes from a spirit of rejection. Breaking bondages is life changing. Shalom sister 🙏🏼
Wow love that you are keeping the sabbath! I am a seventh day Adventist and keep the sabbath and look forward to christs return! I have watched you for years and love your content ❤
I can relate. My expectations are too high at times and the whole week is preparation. I need to know that it is rest in him not rest in the world... It is based on him not me... Family of 9 :) I personally feel doing a screen free day is a true rest in our modern time as well.
I agree with another commenter about perfectionism. Whenever I see a video, and the person's home is "real", like things aren't perfect, it's really endearing and encouraging. I've tried doing sabbath on and off over the years, and it's not easy, especially if you don't start when your kids are young, or your spouse isn't totally on board. I have little ones still, but I also have adults and teens. Whenever we would do Sabbath, it felt like such a struggle to me, but all of my kids bring it up as some of their best memories. I don't know how your channel popped up, but I'm happy it did, and I'm encouraged to try Sabbath again. After all, it is a major commandment... Rest ❤️
I’ve stumbled upon your channel a few days ago & I’ve binged watched so many of your videos. Your channel has been such a blessing to me as a fairly new wife (3 yrs) & mommy of two young babies (2 & 1yrs old). After your videos, I’ve been so encouraged to prioritize quiet time with Jesus, be a more loving wife, & a more present & nurturing mom. So thankful for the knowledge you share on your YT channel. God bless.
Yes! Please do an updated full Sabbath day video! I loved your original one and this one, but if things have changed, it would be awesome to see any updates to how you spend the entire 24 hours. Thank you for sharing this! - Kati
Remember, mommas; youre in Momma BootCamp. There’s no way around it, there’s no easy way through it. You will learn to become more efficient and effective - or you will sink. Once you get through the Boot Camp though the rewards are so worth it. I can do things in my sleep now that it used to take me weeks of agonizing to figure out lol
Great video! Our family started taking a Sabbath about 3yrs ago and it has really been a great blessing to us. We are a sourdough family too! You mentioned waffles! That's a great one to make ahead too. Sometimes I'll prep a big batch of SD waffles Thursday night, make them Friday morning, then store the rest in the freezer for Sat. morning/later that week. They reheat well in the oven :)
I love, love, love this! Feast and abundance, indeed! I definitely need more discipline in getting proper meals prepared for the whole day. Praise Our Father for the rise of Sabbath keeping indviduals and families, especially those presenting here on RU-vid. My family feels like such an outcast, and it can be very lonely. Peace and blessings to your family!
That’s how I feel. Not many sabbath keeping families where I live. My siblings and parents (and husband) think that I lost it. So feels very lonely. Blessings from the Father to you! There are many of us all over the world.
Thank you so much for sharing! I recently stumbled on your channel, and I’m loving it! Sabbath is SUCH a DELIGHT, and I loved hearing how you prepare and welcome yours!! Also- recently learned from a different channel that you’re in north Idaho! We moved from Priest River (but really Priest Lake) to Texas in 2021. Very ready to move back and praying the Lord will open that door soon. It was ironic to know you’re in the area. 🤗 Many blessings!
I also stumbled on your channel. God must have read my thoughts about too much screen-time and your screen-free family video was at the top of my feed!
You are amazing!! You seem to do all the things a stay at home mom “should” do and you’re doing it so well!! You’re such an inspiration!! Thank you for sharing! You’ve encouraged me to be more thoughtful in my home and look at what I can do better.
Love that y'all are honoring the Father's Sabbath!! We've been Sabbath keepers for about 17 years... though the 1st couple years were kinda hit and miss! 😁 I am curious- and you may have already shared this... what time do you begin your day? (As in when your "feet it the floor" once you wake up and get your day started) We also kind of have implemented our week as a 'count down' to shabbat- beginning on Sunday (1st day of the week!) And I try and have daily 'to do lists' that we work to accomplish throughout the week... and it kind of builds as the week progresses... so Sunday is a bit of a refresher- from our Sabbath - and prepping for our school week... then Monday I add 1 more task, Tues another... Wed we plan what we'll eat for Friday /shabbat... and like you- our Friday meals are pretty consistent- we LOVE build your pizzas, tacos or potato bars are common Friday meals... we have 2 fellowship groups on Shabbat- that we alternate going to... both of which we share a meal with others... so for me- instant pot meals, casseroles, big salads are all on my rotation. And since we have gluten free and I don't eat regular sugar- I usually make a sweet to bring as well often times. Bagels (which can be gf too!) and cream cheese is common a Sabbath breakfast. Quiche is another (and can be lunch ready too) We love our Sabbath rest!! It is such a blessing!! We do keep ours on a bit of a different 'schedule' than y'all do- several years ago I did a 'deep dive' into what 'erev' or 'evening of' shabbat actually means... and we came to the understanding that 'evening to evening' means something quite different than we had previously thought. So we keep /celebrate Sabbath from Sat am beginning at dawn to Sunday just prior to dawn. So still 24 hours, still on Sabbath, still 7th day. We do have our family Friday meal- but we just don't race for 'sundown.' So to speak- like we used too. 😊 I adore all your tips and tricks and ideas!! I also just love seeing so many families embracing our Creator's appointed times- including His weekly Sabbath!! Blessings to you and your family! 💞
Great video. I love sabbath prep day so much more now after a few years of doing it… got it down pat like you were saying lol. I have a priorities list as far as meals and cleaning goes and what I get to, I get to. I also find that doing a little extra clean Thursday night after the little ones go to bed just lessens the cleaning job the next day so I’m mainly focused on maintenance tidy-ups and the main food. We also always have a roasted whole chicken with rice and some veggie for erev Shabbat dinner so I don’t have to think about it, it’s delicious and a warming tradition and the actual prep is very minimal… also leaves good leftovers the next day.
We (9252life) often get comments on our channel asking if we are TO (Torah observant) lol for along time we had no clue what people were asking. So I looked into the "label" and it seemed to be pretty close to how we live. Saturday being the Sabbath and old testament being relevant still. I'm unsure if that's how your family believes but I find it to be a pretty cool thing how many of us are out there and don't even realize it. Almost like something spiritually waking up. I enjoyed your video! Thank you for taking the time to show how your Sabbath functions. I love Sabbath hikes! ❤️
So cool. I have been doing for 7 years. I make challah and whatever is easy and Lord provides dinner. I am big into Clorox wipes. Gets all clean. I call mine open house all welcome for food and fellowship...
i love watching you. gotta say though, as a mom of 7 with ADHD/cptsd, this feels so unattainable. i know your mom did it with more, but i can't seem to get there. maybe because I didn't start out on top of things, it has snowballed to the point of being uncontrollable. i can't even find time to get rid of stuff to make it easier, I'm so busy putting out fires (pulling the toddler twins off the tables, feeding the two month old Etc). I can't remember the last time I felt like I had time to cook. every night it's chicken patties or frozen lasagna, and I feel like such a failure feeding them all those processed foods. pray for me! I haven't given up, but having a smooth running household feels so far out of reach.
Please don’t feel bad for having frozen lasagna for dinner all of the time. You’re providing a meal for your family that makes their tummy’s full. Maybe in order to make it feel special, just turn down the lights and have a candle (battery operated so the toddlers on the table won’t knock it) and play some soothing hymns on your phone.
If I lived near, I would come help u U need help! Physical in the flesh help Just to get caught up n on track Pray He will send a teen or older mom to help u I know there’s someone nearby that could do this. Amen!
I struggle too so you are not alone! To me it sounds like you are doing a great job in a very demanding season! Decluttering helps me so much, just be ruthless! Maybe for a few weeks tuck a black rubbish bag into your belt or belt loop and as you are going about your day doing the usual things you have to do keep chucking things in there until it’s too full and get another and repeat. Only put really exceptional things in a donation box, everything else just trash because your Heath, headspace and family are more important than anything else right now. And if it begins to make things better keep going. I am finding that I need to let go of a lot more than I first thought but it’s really helping! Also, just by feeding your family you are doing a wonderful job! And that’s a lot of mouths to feed! You sound like an amazing mum. Don’t be hard on yourself. ADHD is harder than I realised, I’m only just learning how much of my life that it impacts ( everything!) and how I have to do things differently to others. It’s frustrating but I’m learning and it doesn’t make me a bad person. I’ve been feeling like a failure for so long. I hope you feel that you aren’t alone, that although motherhood is hard, you are doing a great job, and that you are a wonderful and unique person. Sending you love ❤️ from another ‘striving to be a good mum’ with adhd xxxx
So helpful to hear how you folks do this! Really interesting. Thank you. We’re at the very very beginning of getting our heads around what could a higher view of the sabbath look like for our family here in a small flat in London. Would really appreciate yours or anyone else in the comments book reckos to get more of a perspective on this in our fast paced world.
This was so inspiring and helpful! Life has been so busy and stressful and I've been thinking more and more about having a Sabbath each week. My husband isn't totally on board with the whole Sabbath, but some things I'm doing are taking a break from my phone on Sundays and baking something special after church (I LOVE baking, but don't make time for it because it feels extra) and enjoying that as a family. I'm excited to implement some of the food prep ideas you gave!
We use sourdough ALL the time also! We are 95 percent on sourdough loaves and I really enjoy making them! Thanks for sharing this-- love hearing how others tackle the days leading to the Sabbath!
I’m mostly on YT looking for recipes… look forward to you sharing yours soon! There were a few you mentioned that I instantly wanted to try. I prep most of my sourdough in advance & freeze double batches. It really takes a meal up a notch! Or in a pinch breakfast sandwiches with my biscuits are a fam favorite and take such little time. My husband & I don’t really enjoy eating out because it never seems to be as good as home. 😊 If we do eat out it’s purely out of desperation & convenience. A little prep goes a long way! Enjoying your content. Blessings to you & your sweet family
We’ve started a tradition of Shabbat Donuts. We’ve had a couple other families that have adopted it. The kids love it! It’s a sweet treat that they don’t get at any other time. Normally, they are chocolate glazed with sprinkles 😊
I went this morning and got "Shabbat donuts". The kids tried to talk me into having them after dinner this evening....nope, have to wait till Sabbath morning.
I love how easy going your video is and how your voice and music are soothing. You inspire me to try this too, we are Christians but my house ís a mess after a weekend. Do you make your sourdough glutenfree for the whole family?
Your house when "trashed" looks great. That looks good for us. I would love a cleaner house but my husband grew up with mess and clutter so that is his normal and my kids are very messy.
I love this idea (family of 5 over here)-but my husband has a health care office job that requires him to be available for any questions over the weekend 😢 so we couldn’t completely be “cellphone/internet free” but I love the idea!
I just found your channel. What a blessing this was. Thanks for explaining all that you do to prepare for Sabbath. I love that your hubby helps out by cleaning the bathroom, so sweet. Have a blessed New Year!
Thanks for all the tips! A great book on this topic: Oh No! It's Sabbath Again and I'm Not Ready! by Yara Cerna Young. It's an older book, but I see it for sale online in various places. It's really helpful with breaking up Sabbath preparation throughout the week, even has a chapter or two to help moms working outside the home.
You can prep your food and deep cleaning all week. Prepare all food ahead and then it is only a matter of cooking and freezing so that you can heat the food on Friday.
I love the encouragement to take a full Sabbath rest, that is something my husband and I are working on making a habit for our little family. Have you ever tried pre-marinating your meat? I make my marinade and go ahead and pour the meat and marinade together into a bag, then freeze it. Than all you have to do is pull the bag out of the freezer and the meat marinades as it thaws.
You keep the Sabbath!! 🎉🎉🎉 Love that! What’s your story/background? We came into the walk about 8 years ago and aren’t looking back. 😊 what kind of reusable bags and stands do you use?? Thank you!
Great video! I always find that starting Sabbath prep on a Sunday keeps my stress low and the family happier. I break down the jobs into manageable daily tasks. Also, I sometimes prep the food on Thursday (The joys of having a fridge!) and now that my kids are older they are involved with cooking and cleaning too. Having a rest after lunch also helps being too exhausted by the time Sabbath rolls around. It's a blessing to meet another homeschooling, Sabbath-keeping family. Thanks again!
Love all these suggestions! My family has recently put a sabbath in place and this is helpful as im navigating through trial and error lol! Question: I purchased the Get it all Done club last year, will your new content be available for existing members?
Love this video, it is very helpful as I have been thinking about how to go about a rest day. I’m wondering what you do with all the dishes from all the meal prep and the weekend. Do you still do those over the sabbath or do you leave them all for Monday?
I love this! My husband and I are hoping to start taking a weekly rest day soon and I love having ideas for what that might look like and how to prepare! I've seen your original Sabbath vlog but would love to see what you've changed!
Yes I remember she mentioned supplements to sustain energy through out the day and would love to know what those are as well. Mama of a 4, 3, 1 and newborn 😅
I loved this. I’ve never really seen this concept of a weekly family sabbath. This may be something we need to work into our schedule. Do you do yours the same day every week?
You Sabbath harder than me lol 😅 I consider it okay to just be at home on Sabbath, as in not working. Cooking is okay, minimally is better. And I probably just ignore cleaning on Sunday.
My husband quite literally sleeps all day on Saturdays if he's not required to work for his job. I wish I could do that, but I'm about to have 3 under 4.. 😂can't do that.
Just start watching yr videos.. awesome content..i am just wondering how u take yr kids outside.. cuz u said in the video u have one car for the family.
My friend with 5 at the time (most bedwetters too), had another w/d gifted her by her husband. They had 8 kids altogether and those washers both ran daily lol
This was AWESOME! Also, give yourself the gift of a lifetime. Buy a Dyson Animal V8 cordless vacuum. No more sweeping and you will never regret that purchase. Worth every penny!!!!!
Instead of eating out after church, do a crockpot meal and eat out Sat eves or get pizza in Then take a nap after eating the crockpot meal! Stay up late with the spouse after kids zap out - becuz u both had a nap 🙂
I am curious to why observing the Sabbath day if then go to church on sunday? It's a confusing concept to me. God commanded His people to observe Sabbath AND have a holy gathering, this was from the very beginning in Exodus (and further instructions in Leviticus). So why both days? And which is the Holy one?
