How We Do Child Training

Now That We're A Family

Well trained and well behaved children are such a delight to be around! Children are so much more secure when they know what is expected of them in each given situation. Some of these tips we are going to share about our little “baby bootcamp” that we do here, we have gleaned from our parents and modified it for our own family. I am the oldest of 11 and Elisha is one of ten children. We both had great experiences growing up and us and our siblings are all continuing to have children that are a delight and joy to be around.
We want to practice, rehearse and train as much as we can for different environments and situations that we might find ourselves in. We are not parenting experts! Our oldest is six. We have learned some practical things though that have really helped us navigate the toddler years that we want to share today. These have helped us tie heart strings with our children and also train them in the way they should go.

I taught my kids to put their hand on me for attention when they were in preschool. It's amazing how much peace it brings to our family. Today, even as teenagers, they still come put their hand on me to interrupt if I'm in the middle of a conversation. So respectful!

How did you teach them to do that?
@nynkeandreae7008
@nynkeandreae7008 10 месяцев назад
@@paulagaziero8055 Just tell them, that if they want your attention, they can ask for it by putting their hand on your arm or leg. Don't give them attention if they start whining for it (but you can say something like 'if someone wants my attention they need to put their hand on me' without looking at them). Respond quickly in the beginning, so they know that is what works and what you want. Then explain to them, at a quiet moment, that it might take a little time for you to respond when you are busy. Then gradually increase your response time. A good time to practice is when you are talking to someone.

i heard a great tip, which is, if you want to finish the sentence or something, to place your hand back 9n their hand, so the kid knows that you noticed them and will give them your attention the moment you have finished😊

This is so good! I'm 40 with 3 kids 3-8 years old, it's so scary when I yell to them very firmly to stop when running towards a street and they don't! Why aren't parents taught these things? Thank you so much for this fun and easy way to train them! Great video!! More like this please!!

Thank you SO SO SO much for this. So many of us poor parents really have good intentions and set out to be the best parent but we were never properly "trained" ourselves. I can say this is so for myself. I have been feeling so overwhelmed with my 4 and 2 year old because the whining has begun, not listening, acting out. This is all new! Now I know they really just need trained:) It will begin today!

I have definitely found that preparing my boys before something happens really helps them manage the situation well. My two year old would throw tantrums when I put him down when he was wanting to be held, but sometimes I need to use both hands for dinner. So now I tell him what I need to do, tell him I'm going to put him down for it, and then I'll pick him up again when I'm done. I say all of this while holding him. Then I can feel him letting himself out of my arms after he knows what to expect. Game changer! So many meltdowns and whining avoided with preparation. Loved this video!!

This was so helpful and practical! Would you please do a similar video on bedtime routines with kids? We have struggled with this lately. How have you handled room sharing, getting olders to not wake up the toddler who goes to bed earlier, kids not being able to fall asleep quickly so they get antsy, kids who come out from their rooms a lot, when a kid is scared etc?

Not a mom but thought this might help.. there is a lamp/clock sold for kids where the green light turns on at the hour they are allowed to leave their room. “Hatch” plays music (ocean waves, birds singing, etc.) at the time you program it to😊

I work with toddlers at a daycare and I do practice with them, but not often enough! It's also good to remember that there are lots of games (like red light-green light) that help teach the self control required for "stop." I think it's even better to practice this way, but it can be good to mix it up with classic games like that.
