@mattbklee 3 года назад
Hi Monira, thank you so much! I definitely understand where you're coming from - flashcards are amazing for learning but only in specific situations, and definitely together with other resources. A video on using Anki was on my list of to-do list but I've just bumped it up to try get it out sooner 😊 I'll try get my flashcards out at some point too but I tailored them towards the knowledge points I was lacking, and as a result it doesn't form a comprehensive overview of a specialty. I'll see what I can do though!

I would say that my day to day job definitely helped me with feeling more confident in the management of common conditions and first line management e.g. Chest pain, SOB etc. I although the questions are rarely straightforward and usually test further knowledge. I'd actually say 50% of the exam knowledge was from my med school finals and the other 50% I learned fresh, so overall not a HUGE step up but enough to need to put in some work 😅

I appreciate you imparting the knowledge and enthusiasm Matt. I’ve few couples of subspecialties to revise before the exam and I was thinking about doing another Qbank(pastest), but at this point, I think it’s better to review what I’ve learnt. Love your video, great editing and tips and I’m looking forward to see more videos from you!
@mattbklee
@mattbklee 3 года назад
Hi Andrew, thank you so much! Sounds like you're making good progress in your revision. Once you've finished one questionbank, what the most effective thing to do next is depends on how confident you are with content. What might be worth doing is focusing on your weaker aspects and things like flashcards for repetitive review are really helpful! You can also consider doing mock papers as these will give you an idea of what to expect + give you pointers on your weak aspects (I was still discovering new content even up to exam day - you can't revise it all!). Ultimately, there are so many resources out there that it's really impossible to do it all, so it's about tailoring your revision to suit your needs. Hope this was helpful, and thank you so much for your support again 😊 Hope to stay in touch and all the best for your exam revision!

Hi Syed, most of my planning (as I go through in the video) was done before the 3 months of dedicated revision time but aside from that I didn't do much studying. I would read up on conditions while seeing them in the hospital but as a bulk of the knowledge is preclinical the most helpful thing is spending time studying, and I found questionbanks and flashcards most helpful for this purpose. Congratulations Dr Mathew ! And thank you so much for your useful tips and strategies for studying for MRCP Part 1. No wonder you passed with such great marks. I am also planning to give MRCP but I am a bit scared of the sheer volume of it, so I guess I need to work on the strong mindset bit. Another thing I am ashamed to admit that my basics are really weak as in the theoretical aspect of the subjects like for example mechanisms etc. So should i try to learn from the textbooks first to understand or can i also solve pass medicine question banks and through that my basics will clear up and i will be able to understand the questions and answers. And also please share your mnemonics, schedules, flashcards etc. Your sarcoidosis mnemonic is really good. Thanks. Congratulations again. And looking forward to you passing mrcp part 2 and sharing tips for that.

Hi Redoy, thanks for your kind words and I'm glad the video gave you some insight. MRCP Part 1 is indeed an exam with a large required pool of information but with adequate preparation and time allocation you can succeed! I would say that if you think your medical theory isn't strong, it would indeed be helpful to brush up on key concepts in physiology and pharmacology etc. However I would still allocate a bulk of revision time to doing questionbanks as these also offer valuable explanations and is an effective way of learning. I'm currently working on my resources including revision schedule and mneumonics and will try to publish them ASAP! You can connect with me on instagram where I'll be posting updates as well as revision tips: instagram.com/mbklee_/ Hope that helps 😊
