Summary of tips: 1) Bring your book everywhere with you and look at it just like how you look at your phone to avoid public interaction. 2) Read a book that you're interested in. You'll generally stick to it. 3) Don't watch TV or do other shit. Read instead. 4) Read different types of books that don't overlap, so you can read more than one book at a time with ease. 5) Don't force yourself to read shit you don't like. The end. These are really good tips and I don't understand all of the hate.

Totally agree, the fastest I've ever read a book was in about two and a half days with about 800 pages in paperback and I go at it from dawn till dusk. And after that I recover from my book hangover for a couple of weeks or so and start anew :D

WOW, some of these comments are so hateful. Everyone should read as fast as they want to and as much as they want to. She's not saying that everyone has to read like she does, she's just saying how she reads. I read very similar to her. No, its not a race or anything...but I have SO MANY books I want to read in my lifetime, and reading is my favorite thing, so that's what I do every evening after work. Some books go faster than others (depending how into them I am). And some I don't remember well, although I think that's because they just weren't memorable. Do you remember every single TV episode and movie you've watched? I don't watch very much TV anymore, I've pretty much replaced TV with reading. People always ask me how I read so much, and its that simple...I don't sit around playing apps and games a lot, I don't spend loads of time of social media, and I watch Netflix maybe 2 hours a week. Sometimes not even at all. Depends if I'm into a show or not. So my time is spend working, with my family around supper, and reading. When you read 3-4 hours a night, its easy to finish a book, especially if its short or YA. That's what I like to do. You read what you want to and how much you want to. As long as people are reading, even if its just a book a year, I think that's awesome!

These are some of the most vicious comments I have ever received and this is a BOOK video. I made this because it was requested. People realized I read a lot and wanted to understand how I did it. I didn't make this to "brag about myself" if that's all you think it's about find a new video. I also appreciate the comments telling me I'm lying or not very intelligent, because of how I look. If that's how you think you lead a very sad life. I will be stopping comments in the near future if these continue.

I've had people tell me that I'm lying when I mark things off as marked on Goodreads or when I talk to people in bookclubs. Seriously, just do what you're doing. You're doing you just fine and anyone with an issue because you're good at what you do then they can kick rocks.

Yesss, me too. I read 15 books a month, pretty much every month. And I used to follow about 20 tv shows, which is waaaay too many. I dropped all of those and now I watch like 4 tv shows, 2 of which are in between seasons. And now I'm obsessed with reading and it sometimes takes way too much time, and I only get like 3 hours of sleep. So I gotta work on that.
@jkmacrunnel
@jkmacrunnel 7 лет назад
I've pretty much replaced TV time with reading. Much more enjoyable for me! A lot of it happened when I worked for my local cable company and got the inside scoop on just how crooked the TV networks really are. I still watch Netflix, but maybe 2 hours a week? So not much. Reading is just much more relaxing for me :)

Gabriella Amaral I also sleep only 3 hours on most nights, sometimes even less. Its weird, Coz I exercise so much (mostly to tire myself out so I sleep more) BUT it never happens, I watch a lot of TV n smoke quite a bit but I actually do quite a bit of reading even while doing those things, but I just cant sleep on command. I tried yoga, routine, n now extremely strenuous exercise but I still am not able to get more sleep :(

There's some good tips here. Assume a reading speed of 250 words a minute. Say a book can typically range from 60,000 to 100,000 words. That's 4 to 7 hours or so, on average, to read a book, or 64 to 112 hours to read 16 books. With about 720 hours in a month, assume there are 480 waking hours. That means at an average speed of reading, 16 books a month would take about 14 to 24 percent of one's waking time or about 3.5 to 6 hours a day. GS says she's a fast reader but not a speed reader, so cut that in half to get a rough idea of her number of reading hours. I wonder if she has any tips on how to concentrate and focus.

If I really like a book I can also read it in a day. I am relatively fast reader. About 320-350 words per minute. Sometimes when I really love a book I stop and think about it a bit more. Sometimes I am even delaying finishing the book as I want to be entangled in some world for extra time. I usually also read few books at once.

I agree. A three star rating is "I liked it" ....which isn't bad at all. lol What I usually do is read the one or no star ratings to see why people might not like the book, then decide from there if its something that would get on my nerves as well. lol But for the most part if it gets a three or over I consider it!
@soinlove8306

Most of the time goodreads ratings are pretty close to my own, but there is always that over hyped book or the one where there are a lot of people giving the book one star because it's sci fy and they only like contemporary (yes I've actually seen people write those types of reviews).

I feel like you're forgetting that some books are worth spending a lot of time on. No joke, it took me two months to read Wise Man's Fear, despite loving the story. Focusing on how many books I read, for me, kinda ruins reading. It makes me not want to challenge myself and read something a bit tougher, or something I might need to take breaks from. If that's not something that affects you, then that's great! But bear in mind that some books are worth their time.

Speed reading is good for college and textbooks. However if you want to read literature I think you should take your time, specially if you're reading a dense book like, for example, Brothers Karamazov or Siddhartha. In those books there are passages that you want to dissect, delve into, meditate on, analyze, however you want to call it, in order to get as much as you can from your reading or get as close as you can to what the author intended to communicate. IMHO if you read literature fast you don't know how to read literature. Enjoying literature fully (and all fine things in life, like wine, good food, fine art, classical music, etc), requires patience or time. You don't rush through the Louvre, unless you you don't know how to appreciate art.
@danwilliams1920

Bingo. The fact is, there are many books that aren't considered classics that this would apply to just as well. For instance, she mentions reading Game of Thrones. I've only read a little of that, myself, but I recall being quite impressed with the narrative voice and style, and believe it's worth slowing down to appreciate.

Quick question : How much retention do you get with a rate like that? I personally think when the speed increases, the retention decreases as well, think quantity versus quality, unless you have an outstanding brain, which can't be acquired in a how to video.

I read really fast too(avg. 100 pages an hour), so I am normally so absorbed by one plot that I read it until it's done, but I have been known to start multiple books when I have a hankering for one genre. Downloading books on my phone is my salvation, because I no longer have to carry 3 books in my purse and have to worry about finishing them. My biggest suggestion for reading fast is an addition to one of yours: once you find a genre that you enjoy, look for series in that genre that have a lot of books already released, or is already finished. i remember i would read a shit ton in middle school and ninth grade (not 16 books a month lolol but still a lot) but when i went through sophmore year, i would get tired to the point of sleeping in the car while my mom drove me on my way home from school, and i would only have energy to read what i needed for english class, and rarely anything else. plus now im writing for fun and that takes up a lot of time as well, even if ive written 235 pages already. im taking advantage of summer now and reading as much as i can, since i know during junior year i'll be really busy with 2 AP classes. i miss being able to read so much, even if i still read fast, but you inspire me to try harder, so thank you

What do you get out of this much reading? And suppose you stuck on a line or word which you have no idea what it means, how you deal with that? What advice would you give to slow reader like myself to speed up the process, I have been trying to read this one book for months and still couldn't make it to half.

I'm a fast reader and can read a book in a day but that was when I had more free time. Wish I was still a teenager or a student, because now when I do have free time I am too tired to be able to focus on reading, so my tv shows watching has gone up. Which I am okay with because when I have breaks I can catch back up. I used to say so much that people should watch less tv to read books, and although that is great... in a busy adult life it makes sense why some people will choose a tv show over a book, as books tend to require a lot more energy. That being said when I do get time to read I read like a crazy person!

You bring up good points. I used to read so slow years ago, but now when I pick up a book I usually get through it in 1-2 days, but that usually depends on what you said, if the book has good reviews and something that would seriously interest me. I mean I've readin a 600-700 page book in 2 days b/c it was soooo good and I could not put it down. But as long as the book is good and seriously interests you, you will not put it down and end up reading it fairly quickly.

way to go girl , i also do read way too many books, but i'm more of a collector than a reader i have a huge library of old heavy books mostly are idiologies and political history yet i'm a hopless romantic . and it's true if you want to read more you have to forget something called TV if you miss the news you can read the papers instead.

I read 19 books last month and this month 15 books. Some of them were graphic novels. Reading should be fun ! Too much competitive & fast reading might lead to reading slumps (that's where I am heading to lol.)
@esmeraldagarcia1095
@esmeraldagarcia1095 3 года назад
@@shubhamrc4379 Well yes. There is also a big difference between reading and hearing a book. I haven't actually read a book full since I was 13. I always listen to them because I have dyslexia. I would say its actually more of a challenge reading a book correctly then comprehending the book and then projecting what is happening in your brain. Now if your trying to set a record or are rushing yourself to finish the book. Don't do it. Your not savoring the book's plot of events. I have a bunch of series I have heard and love and wish I could erase my mind to go and reread it. I know I can go back and read them again but its just not the same because I already know what's going to happen.

I wasnt gonna leave a comment, but i saw yours at the top and was inclined to add my two cents. I thourghly enjoyed your video and recommendations. You have a lovely energy and i like that you read regularly. Its one of the traits i highly value and admire in a person. I am baffled what provoked people to be mean. Maybe its because you seem so genuine or people would like to be more like you and are facing some personal challenges at this time. All the best to you

i feel weird... i really like to read but i am also VERY slow reader, i mean, my english teacher knows i love books and once she asked me how many books per month i read and i was so ashamed to tell her the thruth (2-3 books/month) i lied to her and said 5-6... are there other people like me out there? am i weird or is it normal to read so slow even though i love books?

Gonzalita nah man don't worry I'm a slow reader too 😅😂. I like to understand the plot and make quick personal interpretations when I read so that I can get to grips with it. Honestly I don't really mind reading slow because at the end of the day if you're enjoying the book and you're gaining something from it then that's all that matters ;)

A tip I have to read books faster is to read it online with small text. It helped me read so much faster. When I read physical books I constantly stop and get distracted. It helps with reading books in one sitting or books with over 400 pages.
