The fx3 sure is an amazing camera. I didn’t know I could record digitally with the Sony ecm-b10. I run my fx3 with a 14mm g master and a rode video mic go. Thanks for making this helpful video
This video is clutch. Thanks for sharing all these set ups. There’s clearly a lot of experience behind these builds that save the rest of us a whole lot of time and toil.
Appreciate it! Yeah I spent lots of time tinkering haha My main thing was to not have accessories just to have them, these are all my bare essentials which makes a lot of things easier haha
A good light weight 5" monitor is the Atomos Shinobi. It's almost exactly like the Ninja V without the record function. I have 3 configs with my FX3 too. That Sony B10 looks dope for super small set ups.
Detailed as always Thomas, nice! My go to setup for anything where I'm getting paid is pretty much your 3rd fully rigged setup. I agree with you, I just feel like the fx3 needs to be weighed down a bit to get more stability. I need a monitor too, it's just necessary for me. I recently picked up the cinesaddle for longer days and again for more stability. We were talking about it in the FB group the other day. I already can tell I'm going to like it. Maybe will see a video from you soon about it 😎
@@thomas.kovacikhey dude I need help please, have recently bought the Sony fx3 and my pc can’t even import in the pr timeline the clip (a 19gb 30:00 min of vid, no cuts) shot in XAVC S-I HD. A MacBook Pro 13” can handle my Sony fx3 XAVC S-I HD? I have to buy a new pc that can actually edit my footage on pr, even in XAVC S-I 4k if I have to shoot it, have you any suggestions? ❤
Yo, those 3 words are great categorization terms to help your brain think. It’s simple, but effective. I will practice this mindset with my Blackmagic Pocket Cameras; minimum for personal travel, HYBRID for capturing b roll, and FULL KIT for documentary capturing talent.
thank you for the video! really helpful! how would you feel using Sigma 24-70 for hand-held shots? Is it felt jerky when active stab was on? I have hard time choosing one between Sony 24-70GM1 since Sony one might have better ibis sync with the camera body?
Hey Thomas... Im picking up the MKE 600 through your link... I don't see a link to the dead cat.. which one do you recommend? I could see a generic one slipping off easy since the mke600 is so slim ... Thanks!
@@thomas.kovacik Thanks a lot, look forward to the video. I'm researching a tonne now are you able to drop me a spoiler for the name? Appreciate it! Is it also a similar price to the Sirui? Thanks again
Hey Thomas, I'm assuming you're still using CINE EI mode. I'm curious, you've said in the past that your method of exposing is to just read the gamma display assist and judge from that. In CINE EI, are you still able to use the gamma display, or only the "LUT on/off" option? If it's only the LUT option, do you simply judge exposure with that lut on? thanks hope this makes sense!
Hey Thomas, thanks for showing your setup, really helps understanding how it may work in different scenario. In your hybrid setup, do you get any handling noise through mic like creaking sound kind of thing as the top handle is plastic made, i find it very difficult to avoid the handling noise when doing run and gun. I use deity s-mic2s attached to top handle with fx3.
thank you! Glad you found it helpful Sometimes I'll get handling noise, but I make sure I change grip before audio is going, so if I'm filming I'll hold off on swapping grip until the take is done. Definitely is weird, but hasn't been an issue overall
Weddings, RU-vid content where i film the talent, smaller commercial lifestyle shoots for social use where I need ambient audio Most shoots nowadays I shoot MOS, but sometimes taking a shotgun out for ambient sounds or docustyle pickups is great For my commercial jobs I just record my own sounds or download them and mix
appreciate it! I think the 16-35 PZ would be a great move - it's small and you get a wide range I think the sony 20-70 would be an even better setup- 20 is perfect for vlogging talking heads, and you get the range of a normal 24-70 for broll I just picked one up to be my main RU-vid lens
@@MODESTYXO205 100%, I haven't been able to use it much yet buuuuut I stop down all the time even with fast lenses, so I'm not concerned Plus, with the fx3 you have the dual base iso of 800 / 12800 in slog3, at 12800 I often have to add ND bc it's so sensitive
hey! yep there's that tilta arca plate that goes on the fx3 cage then attaches to the LWS baseplate I then throw my manfrotto plate underneath the LWS base
thanks! I use step up rings that go up to 82mm for all of my lenses, they're worth it bc I only need to buy one filter and it works on all of my lenses I just keep track of my lens caps, I'll throw them in my bag / case or fanny pack, I also bought cheap 82mm lens caps to put on the step up rings for the lenses that have them
It’s great! Yeah I can fit more in with the padded dividers, plus my kits change so being able to customize it is helpful I’ve carried 3x 10tb drives in this case before and that wouldn’t be possible if I had the custom foam
just they normal cold shoe monitor mount! If you search 'small rig monitor mount' it should pop up on bh or amazon! they have one with a 3/8 too, I use that with my c70
