Man, that is just beautiful. The way it moves. I've just started the very early stages of learning about basic robotic arm movement and inverse kinematics and want to begin playing around with simple animated designs, but I don't particularly want to learn something like Solid Works just to be able to do that right now; I've already put a lot of time in with Blender, so why not start there? This is going into my Robotics playlist; thank you!

Oh man, so glad I found this! I've been wrestling for days with how rig a mechnically similar thing, and of course, as I suspected, the answer turned out to be so much simpler than I was trying to make it out to be: parent an IK controller to bone, and let that bone's motion manipulate the other IK chain. I mean, duh, right? It's almost embarassing how this never once occurred to me! This is why I love the Blender community. Consider me subscribed! :)

How are you duplicating the bone at 1:18 without it being parented and maintaining the orientations?

Hello. I'm trying to rig a mechanism like Teo Jensen's. So that there is one point of support, and one rotational action due to which the entire mechanism would move. But I didn't find such example tutorials for blender. I already doubt if this is possible. Can you made video if it possible.

I think I grasp the rigging method. But how did you know the object mesh geometry would result in the hinge action you wanted.? It looks like the mechanism has multiple adjustment points.

In this case, I based it on a real-life hinge - and I built it around that mechanic.

Yeah sort of, but the foot and the toe each get their own single chain IK constraint. All of this get parented to a single control that activates the leg IK and the foot IK systems.

How to activate CTRL R in Blender 2.91?

CTRL R should still work - although it will only work on selected bones when you are in pose mode. It will not work on objects.

ahh no, its all separate objects, you dont want that for game dev! its gonna blow your drawcall up. Usually you want it all to be one object.

Agreed in that case this should be joined together, and an armature deform should be used instead of bone parents

@@coffeediction It might - but you would need a lot for this as it has rotation. You almost want to use just deform bones and weight paint everything 100% (can assign this in edit mode as well) Then bring the rig and the mesh into Unreal, or Unity, or Godot.
