PLEASE, viewers of this video, DO NOT attempt this method. What a load of crap! This should be removed form youtube! This NOT the way to sharpen drill bit. This is the worst drill "sharpening" I've ever seen. There are so many things wrong in this video, including the DANGEROUS USE of cutting disks. The angles are wrong, at 8:27 you can see how bad the angles are!
You missed the relief angle, the secondary angle, the cutting face is a compound angle of two intersecting angles that is determined by the material being cut. There are reference charts available for that info. on line.
Crazy idea. Using the side of a very fragile disc! How it didn’t shatter I’ve no idea. Just use a bench grinder. It’ll sharpen and polish almost every tool.
DO NOT COPY THIS! Unless you want to have your eyes out and bits of shattered cutting disk embedded in your face! This is an extremely dangerous practice and you should never use a thin cutting disc in this way. And after all that the drill still isn't sharpened correctly.
I understand you! Because I did the same with my drill bit in the past.. These people haven't idea (neither the quality of Makita tools...) what is in the middle of the work your drill bit not cut... Greetings from south of Brasil 🤗
First of all, I thank you for your comments on my video, but this is my daily job, I've been working on this idea for years, I have many ideas but I don't have time to do them right now, I will work hard to come up with many useful ideas for everyone to see, I am from VIET NAM❤️
It's not right. Look at the flukes and valleys. The tip should cross at the narrowed section of the valleys. That way you don't have to force it through the material.
Please remove this video. Never grind on the side of any grinding wheel unless it is a Dish typw wheel made for that type of use. Also no way to hold bit properly or have ANY idea of how the flute is indexed when "Shining up the end". that's the most being done here. Get a pedistal grinder and a drill point gage. Then PRACTICE!.Take it from an old toolmaker. We NEVER die just grind away!!!
Jesus, Just buy a small bench grinder as cheap as an angle grinder and will do the job safely and properly I can sharpen HSS drills in around 10 secs on a bench grinder. What utter rubbish, please don't anybody think this is a good idea or clever in any way this guy is clueless
This is an idea when going on a construction trip or in urgent times that will help you sharpen your drill bit right away and help those who do not have the funds so this is also called an idea, thank you for your interest. heart❤️
I have a Dremel 1 inch belt sander, although it doesn't do a perfect job, it will put a nice edge on a bit very quick. It will clean up the burs that get on the shank when it slips in the chuck also.
I hope you understand. Pathetically long and undesired commercials that I can skip gets the video watched. If I can't skip them, the video does not get watched.
I could of sharpened 100 bits free hand on a belt grinder in the time it takes to make this. BTW cut off wheels are not made for side impact or grinding. Keep doing it and one will explode very violently. Furthermore most drill hex nut is close at 60 degrees but it is not 59 and the wider the bit the more it will be off. Even that 1/2 inch bit you could tell is off. Plus there is another 10-12 degree angle you need to relieve the cutting edge you are totally missing. It is a compound angle. Then lastly my final thought is most abrasive wheels are NOT made to cut aluminum and doing so can make them explode. I see people do it all the time but it will get them one day. Aluminum load up in the pores of the wheel it gets hot and expands and the wheel blows up. But what do I know I only went to school for welding and machine tooling and got a proper education on the subject and do not rely on want to be hacks to show me unsafe ways to do one of the most simplest trades in the business. I did not finish the video to see the results because everything you did to get them is teaching others bad habits. People get a standard bench grinder and dress the wheel and watch a couple videos on how to free hand with a drill guide to keep to point centered and the 59 degree angle. It is a skill that will lat you a life time. You can take a Broken bit and make it cut like new.
Sir, if you are a careful and meticulous person then you will be safe in this job, if you are a careless person then you definitely think this is not safe
Youd get on much more accurateky and quicker using a hachsaw to cut that ally 3xtrusion. Angle grinder wuite a poor tool for that. 24tpi blade in a hacsaw, even an 18 for thick material
Watch me turn a 1 minute task into a half a day long job with crap you might not even have in your garage. Geez. Tell me you don't use your brain without telling me you don't use your brain.
use a thick grindin wheel instead of 2 thin ... cuttin wheels , ..get a spanner wrench 2 tighten the locknut , wear gloves n eye protection , it's all fun till someone loses an eye ...or finger(s)..!! ..dont be a stupidhead !!..like speeding, drunk...impaired driving... consequences..!! ya want folks 2 call u stubby,...gimpy,.. be tuff 2 pick ur nose then , eh?? friends dont pick their friends noses !! , and booger flickin is fun !!
NOOOOOOOO! DON'T DO THIS!. You run the risk of disc pieces flying off into your face. Most stupid thing I've seen in a while. Irresponsible is what this clip is and also, the CUTTING ANGLES ARE WRONG!!!
First of all, thank you for your interest in my video. If I am a professional worker and do it responsibly and with high vigilance, then I think it will be fine, I'm just afraid of new people❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Everyone’s worried about how this guy is using the side of a cut off disk to grind bits… Don’t worry people he’s running 2 of them at the same time so he’s got that covered 🙄😂🤡
Amateur!! Drill sharping. May work For you on wood but not good enough for iron or steel, every thing that is important is off. Believe you me after 14 years in machine shop experience of sharping drills by hand I took a new drill out of the package and went strait to the grinding wheel. Factory drill shaping is inferior also.
I'm not going to say its the best way to sharpen.. But don't be so down on the grinder disc use.. You can safely grind with a cut disc if you know what your doing.. I've got more hours welding then most people have driving.. Been doing it a long time
Excellent video, thanks. I've sharpened hundreds of drill bits just by eyeing them and checking with a gauge. Your fixture is simple, time saving, and very effective, although I'm going to make one for my bench grinder instead of using the angle grinder. Yes, I am fortunate to have a bench grinder better suited to this task.
Definitely a good idea, I can usually get em pretty good freehand but this quick idea for a guide is good. Most of the people making mean comments probably don't know how to use a pair of pliers!
