@RoryandCasey

Awesome! If you can, try to use a wider lens. The 18-35 is apsc so it's actually 27 at the wide end which is way too tight for real estate.

Thank you so much for this video! I shoot real estate photos and I'm really want to get into the real estate video market. Lately I've been feeling the S5 isn't the right camera for real estate video but seeing the few shots you've posted here I'm absolutely inspired again. Which time of day do you prefer shooting your houses? I also would really love to see more of your real estate videos with the S5 because there really isn't much out there shot in the S5. Lastly would you consider creating a video on shooting and editing vlog for real estate video with the S5. Thank you.

Thanks so much for watching! I actually send all my films straight to the agent and don't upload them to my own socials so I have nothing to link you to but I'll definitely consider making a video showing the process! I've got a few cool houses coming up that could make a great video. As far as time of day. I prefer early in the morning or later in the evening about 1.5 hours before the sun goes down... The light is more even so you don't have to blow out the windows as much when shooting however the agents always want to shoot in the middle of the day which makes it hard. The S5 is perfect for real estate with its dual native iso. One of the issues with other cameras is in darker rooms you can introduce a lot of noise if you have to bump the iso. The s series cameras just don't have that issue!

After a year, I'm finally getting serious about real estate video. Given that I still need to invoke some stabilization in post, which crops in, even the new Panasonic 18mm will be too narrow. Your solution with the 14mm Samyang (Rokinon) looks great. I can get one cheap if I go manual focus, but what about the adapter? I can get on for about $30 if I don't worry about supporting auto-focus. Do you have any concerns about getting a cheaper adapter that doesn't have any electronics in it?

I actually have a preset I've made in final cut that is a de-fisheye preset. I made it using the fisheye effect in final cut and tweaked it till lines were straight.

And another question 🙂: How do you attach the camera rig to the gimbal or tripod? I use an old tripod with a standard screw but my S1 is much too heavy for this kind of attachment. What can you recommend? Many thanks. Following...
@RoryandCasey

All my tripods take an arca Swiss plate which is what the Ronin rs2 also takes so the gimbal plate fits into my tripods perfectly fine!

Do you mean the gimbal? Honestly it's just practice. I have all the motors turned down quite low at about 11 on the pan tilt and roll axis. Then small movements aren't as obvious. By default the gimbal is set to a much higher speed which makes it too responsive for my liking. I can make a video of my gimbal setup at some point if it would be helpful but truthfully you'll get it with practice!

@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад
Cheers mate! I've actually made my own preset in final cut to negate the distortion of this lens which is more of a moustache distortion than fisheye... I basically filmed a brick wall at distance and played with the distortion tools until I got all the vertical and horizontal pretty straight and then saved it as a preset. It's not perfect but it's close enough to straight. I just slap that preset onto all the clips using this lens

I love this! And I have a question as I am also a Real Estate videographer but I'm new to it. Those problem that always happens to me is about balancing about interior exposure and exterior exposure while shooting interior like: in the bedroom and we want to show the view outside. When I want to show the view outside, I have to lower the exposure so we can see the views clearly but the interior exposure will be so dark. And if we want the interior to be bright, the outdoor views will be over-exposed. I'm using Sony A7 III and I would love to know how you balance both exposure with your S5 if you don't mind. Thank you so much!!
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад
Great question! Honestly it's really difficult. 9 times out of 10 I have to blow out the windows to make the room bright enough. The reason for this is there is too much difference between the brightness outside and inside. There are two ways around this. Firstly make the room brighter with lighting which honestly is a pain. Secondly choose the right time of day to shoot either early in the morning or later in the evening when the light outside is softer and there is less of a difference between the two. That's really your only way around it!

@@RoryandCasey Thank you so much. One more question, please. How's your thought after using Sony and Lumix? One is better in your opinion? I'm using Sony but also considering of S5, too. I want to know it from you as you're already using it.
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад
Honestly the difference between modern mirrorless cameras is not that great. All the major manufacturers make amazing cameras. Im a big fan of Panasonic for their colours, particularly skin tones, but I'd happily go and shoot real estate or a wedding with canon or Sony gear and feel comfortable I'd get great shots. If you have good gear just learn it well and you'll be right. No need to constantly switch to the newest thing.

I did shoot a few houses with the 20-60 at 20mm when I first got the camera before I had an adaptor and you can definitely make it work but a little wider is ideal. Hi, I am seriously considering LUMIX s5 for real estate photography and videography. But I am little bit concerned how well it blends with other lens like Sony GM lens. I love using Sony lenses but not very sure how it wll go with it.
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey Год назад
You won't be able to use your Sony lenses on the S5. Sony uses E mount and the S5 is an L mount camera. You can adapt old mirrorless lenses like EF, A, PL mount etc but not newer mirrorless lenses because the flange distance is pretty much identical amongst mirrorless cameras.

Hi Rory what is you preferred method of grading vlog for real estate?
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад
First step is getting it correct in camera! Then it's just applying a technical lut (I use the one from gamut.io) and then making exposure and small colour adjustments. I don't try to be too creative with real estate. I just make the whites look white and have enough saturation to make everything look normal. I'll boost the shadows slightly to give it a light and airy feel but that's as creative as I get in real estate.
@seasideshutterworx
@seasideshutterworx 2 года назад
@@RoryandCasey Thanks Rory last question do you prefer shooting with the lights in or off?
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад
It depends on the house and the situation. Mostly with lights on but there are exceptions when the room looks amazing with lights off. That isn't very often though. Most houses windows are far too small for the area.

how do you handle the notorious lumix AF with a gimbal?

@daslolo
@daslolo 2 года назад
good to know wide lens is enough to expand the DOF. What about weddings?
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад
For repeatable shots like portraits af is fine for Lumix lenses particularly the 35mm otherwise I'll manually focus by hand or attach it to the rs2 and control focus via the front wheel

I'd like to see how you do that. The focus assist on the lumix wasn't clear enough in my application. External monitor?

Next question: How do you determine the correct white balance?
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад

@neilhenderson1766
@neilhenderson1766 2 года назад
I'm really interested in your set up using HD? Most if my clients now want 4k - would you shoot 4k 60fps on this or does it crop? Amy other considerations- also do you slow down in editing to smooth shake? P.s. my wife's had coving too - try the b vitamins it really helped her
@RoryandCasey
@RoryandCasey 2 года назад
4k 60 has a crop which would make the 14mm lens a 21mm lens which is too tight for RE. Honestly most people are viewing properties on mobile devices so the difference between 1080p and 4k is non existent. There's no reason currently to deliver real estate in 4k in my opinion.
