How I Spiral Perm My Hair 

I have been doing hair for 25 years. And you did a great job.

Ive been a cosmetologist for 20 years and I am extremely impressed how you do your own perm. If we lived near one another, we'd be perm buddies...lol...I'm getting a tight spiral as soon as I can considering my hair is processed and my porosity test didnt come back too bad but I'm giving myself Olaplex treatments until I retest my strands again. You've given me some great tips that I'll be taking to the salon with me. One, rolling the rods in different directions and your choice of rods sizes. Great tutorial btw!! Excellent results!! I've never had a professional spiral perm turn out that well. In fact I'm so tired of fishing out for 2 perms ($200x2) for limp crimped looking hair while hairdresser looks on like it's precisely what I asked for. That last salon visit rocked me when she had half my hair in solution before asking me if I was told it was double the cost for long hair. I know it's hard work but I also know how much those perms actually cost. Sheer thievery. Hope I can work up the courage and try it myself. Great job

I agree this perm had a much better curl pattern than the last perm. Some shorter layers might bring out the curls even more :)

It is SO hard to roll one's own hair! Thank goodness you don't have real long hair....good job! I have to use spiral rods....hair is so long. I've had the "piggyback" perm, and the stylist rolled top opposite of bottom of hair, so it had a flat kink in the center of each rolled strand section. Had to have my hair re-permed, by someone who paid attention. I will never do a piggyback perm again...lol

I went to a beauty school for a regular perm in May, & FIVE HOURS LATER! Yeah. My hair IS long, but it's not thick. You make it look easy, but considering I can't do the simplest of hair-dos, this is likely far beyond my ability!

If you wrap your hair around the rod instead of flat rolling it on, your curls will be bouncier and fuller. More like ringlets instead of stretched out. You would start holding the rod at the root, and then wrap the length of your hair around the rod, then secure it.

I am not a hair stylist but I have done lots of spiral perms. I always start from the top and go down but I tend to have to squeeze in the rollers. It just seems like if I try the bottom up the top hair gets in the way. And yes you do pin it back but once you and pin it to get hair it seems to drop and get in the way of the other curlers and gets Tangled in the hair curlers. My perms have always turned out really pretty. But I'm going to have to try it this way.
