Almost 2 years as a mobile tech working for myself! It’s been hard on my body but has made me stronger and every day is a new adventure! I highly recommend any confident well educated techs to give this a try!
I wish I could be one myself right now but the only experience I have is working on the few cars I've owned the past few years. I've done brakes, suspension, belts, hoses, accessories and fluid maintenance but there is still so much for me to learn and I don't know if it's enough to get hired at a shop. I've only ever worked on Hondas although most of the stuff is the same principles across all the other makes right? Where would I start somewhere if I don't have the formal education?
@@yt-user03561 start anywhere that takes in repairs beyond just general maintenance. Stay away from places like Jiffy Lube and Discount Tire, go to a car dealership or a mom and pop shop with good repair volume. With your limited experience, the service manager will start you on the oil change rack. If you prove you’re teachable and a hard worker, you’ll be moved onto other jobs and working under the shop foreman’s supervision. Experience comes with time and hard work. Be patient and you’ll get it all down quick!

This man is the real deal, huge respect to you brotha! The advice is priceless, that EIN/Tax ID is essential to getting a lender. I'll add that most of you should go the LLC route as it is a liability shield for everything except maliciousness. There is typically an annual fee for incorporating, in some states it's quite small, in others it's cost prohibitive but get it done eventually. Also one more thing! Money spent on a good medium torque impact and a quality scan tool is essential. Tossing another $200 or $300 at this kit will radically increase its utility and your earning power: a good scan tool assures customers that you know what you are doing and it gives you so much more diagnostic information to research the requested service or required repair.
Most field techs I knew were all prior service including myself, big difference from working in a shop and laying in frozen mud hole thawing brakes. It’s hard damn work.
Very informative video every young mechanic should watch and consider working for themselves. They have to learn to be better organized and how to be good at communicating with customers. Also don't expect things to go perfect right away, it's a process, be patient and persistent!
Very good information! I’m in the mechanic field and been doing it for almost 10 years now. Got sick of working for “The Man”. So one night I created an LLC back in February, been trying to find a shop but no luck! So I decided to pull out a loan and buy myself a 14 ft box truck to fit all my equipment. I have a huge snap on tool box so I needed the space lol. The truck is still being worked out it’s not finished yet. The only thing left is a vehicle wrap. I’m just waiting for them to finish the design. In my state “NJ” we need to have commercial plates if we’re gonna advertise anything on a vehicle. And to have commercial plates we need to register that vehicle under a business. And to register that under a business we need what’s called a CORPCODE! Hell yea man just stick with small shit man im telling you head gaskets and timing chains and transmission will make less profit per hour theb starters and brakes, alternators once you add the hrs up after everything is done
@@semperfimechanic I been doing mechanics for 10+ years man I know how it is out here. Lol I hated spending time on engine swaps and transmission swaps cuz it’ll take 2 days at least. Mean while the other tech is eating off all the little jobs like brakes and stuff and he ends up with more hours and less stress than me! Lmaoo
I do a mobile mechanic also but I liked your video. I’ve been doing mechanical work for 25 plus years. But I’ve only been doing mobile for a couple years. Your doing it good though and I love to see people doing it
im still driving a 2007 ford fusion, i have a pair of milwaukees, hydraulic jacks, jackstands, my laptop and the old tool boxes, i m making more money on my own than before, i used to work on heavy equipment and trucks, but light duty trucks as ford diesels, duramaxs, isuzus, hino and some other medium duty trucks are my everydays bread, nobody wants to work on electronics and small spaces.. running on diagnostics in a town full of old school mechanics its my own gold mine

I’m just starting my mobile mechanic business and I already did everything you mentioned prior to me seeing this video I have my Google site I have specialty tools I purchased over the years of me doing work I’m setting up commercial accounts with the parts stores the only thing I didn’t do was get a business license or insurance I want to thank you for that information because I didn’t even think about that I have been so caught up with planning and marketing I started my channel to help people DIY but been too busy to put out content and terrible at editing and after leaving my job I decided to take a leap of faith starting a business that I would enjoy I can’t afford to send you money but I will support your channel thank you

There is plenty of money to be made but depending on the state you live in the weather is the #1 factor you will be worried about. Right now in Columbus Ohio its sleeting and you will have to choose to work in those conditions. But with your tools im sure you built up and your expertise bro you will kill it

Very informative video. You definitely covered all the bases. The magnetic signs work great and like you said are easily transferable from one vehicle to another. Put them on the family vehicle when you go out to dinner or some other function. It's a great form of advertisement. One of these days you should do a video on your current setup of what you bring on the job.
I just made some Business cards and passed some out to a buddy and the next day i already had a call and then I left some Business cards at Sheetz and the next day I had another call someone wanting me to work on there car I just need to get the paperwork stuff figured out because I already have enough tools to start
you covered the bases pretty good.i havent been able to watch much, i do alot of small engine stuff.its my busy time of year.i tell people to run there mowers & weed whackers out of gas every fall or their carbs will clog up.every year the same people bring me mowers that wont start.i clean the carbs & their fine.but the same people make the exact same mistake every year.this crap they call gasoline is pure garbage after sitting thru 6 months of winter.sad,but true.how is the truck coming along? i did see the belt tensioner video.

I’m been a under the table mobile mechanic for15years I don’t have all that stuff like permits Business license insurance And commercial averting crap this is overkill extra taxes on poor Community people broken down looking for the cheapest guy in the area to replace that alternator they don’t have enough money to pay expensive Mobile mechanic guy’s like you or dealership & tow cost they don’t care about taxes in my area they just trying to find a guy that can fix there car for the cheapest price even if it means Breaking laws to not have to pay taxes!
If I had to choose, I would have a van or a small suv. I used my Kia soul for a long time. I use My 2016 Colorado Colorado now but my Kia soul was the best lol
Been a field mechanic and a ATV/farm equipment mechanic. From welders to mowers I had to learn on the fly. When I got to cars I realized 99% of the car is useless. Now I ride a plasma couch around town🤣. It's a sleeper🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 but can pull under 10 in a quarter and it runs on hydrogen cracked off water.
When you say novice mechanic, 👀 what do you mean? I know how to do basic maintenance, swap alts, grab diagnostics, check voltages on battery and alt, change a radiator, but only on toyota’s which is where I intend to start my biz. What knowledge gaps did you experience when first getting started?
