Really fascinating video and from a perspective that we simply never hear in the western media. What has happened in Ukraine has been a human tragedy but has been in the making for many years with external forces stirring the pot - and yet the Ukrainians themselves have paid the highest price, many of them the ultimate price. As anyone who understands the region knows, you cannot enforce a single identity on any country in central Europe, you have to accept pluralism or you will have big trouble. At the heart of the problem, as this young man says, has been propaganda, turning Ukrainian kids against the Russians and even turning families against each other, it has been disgracefully cynical and may never be healed.
If your understanding of pluralism is letting russians talk about the territory they occupied, then I have trouble understanding you. Wars are exactly where pluralism stops working
As a person who was born and grew up in Donetsk, I can say that what the young man said is a set of clichés from the Russian media. Until the events of 2014 began, in which we were cut off from Ukraine by Russian troops, we had no idea that we or other Ukrainians were being turned against something. However, I can say that since then, the Russians have done quite a lot to turn Ukrainians against themselves.
And even then only because the well informed westerner understands that it is in their interest. Had Putin not been constatly offering total submission and free energy they would side with the banderites as they have for 80 years.

I'm happy for you and everyone who survived, I wasn't a child in 2014 and I've been watching what is happening in Ukraine ever since, I was hoping like many Ukrainians themselves did, that electing Zelenski would bring peace but now we have what we have. All wars end and this one won't last long, the more people survive the better. Ukraine was supposed to be second Germany in Europe when it became independent, and this is what they managed to do.
I couldn't believe that Ukrainians elected a movie actor to be their President. I mean, Sluga Narodu was a good film, but what the hell? Yeah, folks, that's what you'll have if a clown gets into the Presidential Office.
I think anyone who is looking closely at the war in ukraine and the events leading up to it can realize that this entire conflict resembles much more closely to a civil war then an armed conflict between seperate nation states. As a westerner I feel deep shame and regret that our instiutions have managed to penerate and subvert the culture of the region to such a point that now brother kills brother in the name of some fake history that never existed. While I support Russia politically, I do not support the dehuminization that is taking part on both sides, The tearing apart of centures of tradition, brotherhood, and legacy is painful to watch. May peace reign and the fighting stop soon.

As an American from a Missouri farm family and community, I've spent a lot of time in Ukraine. I like to call Odessa my second home. Lots of my expat friends in Odessa were always vehement russophobes. Never understood why they bothered to come to Odessa because it was Russia that made that place. From it's beauty to its warts. My own experiences there have been great for the most part from the people to the markets to the architecture to the sea. I've also had the good fortune to go to Lvov, Kiev, Crimea/Yalta, Nikolaev and Kherson. And I've also been to Russia: Moscow, Tula & Rostov Veliky. I really like the overall culture. So now that we have a war, effectively a civil war, I am pained to see all of the death and destruction. I'm not really for either side. But if I was Putin and the west took the actions it did in Ukraine from 2014 on I probably would have arrived at the same conclusion. My only question is why were so few troops used? I believe Putin and his military have operated with extreme restraint. This makes things extremely difficult for his troops as they have to endure the extended time they will now spend in the field as a result.
the why is simple, it is US policy to stretch Russia financially to break it. So Russia is wise to this and fights this war on the cheap while still taking care of it's domestic projects. Russia is now the 5th economy in Europe as a result and has more citizens now

And the only thing that should be looked at with an economy is its growth. And Russia is NUMBER 1 the rest are in decline at such a gradient that you should really say falling off of a cliff. They have no debt, whilst the other economies are inflated by borrowing and stimulus. There was only one winner in the sanctions madness and that was Russia and China.

There was n. Mandatory Ukrainian language before 2014. Yes since its a Dialect from Gallicia twas part of Poland. Most Ukrainian speak Russian despite the cringe language law EVEN ZELENSKY speaks in Russia He uses Russian words and grammar

There are bunch of conference videos where he speaks clear and perfect Russian, but then stumbles and reaches out to his advisor asking "what is that in Russian language?". i'm american. Half of my family comes from the territory of ukraine but consider themselves russian, just with a new flag but Odessa was mostly if not completely russian speaking, machinists still today will only communicate in russian at the anger of some businessmen from lyviv and kiev. After 2015 they saw they were living in a terror state when one of my cousins was abducted and tortured and killed by the sbu while neonazis were marching in daylight. it makes me sick to see us hosting members of Azov battalion and clapping for them, im glad to see mariupol is being reconstructed, take care friend.

@@lizanderson1669 it was, but until 2014 it was confined mostly just to the West of the country, albeit it had many 'cells' even in Russian-speaking eastern cities which were being financed by oligarchs and slowly growing throughout the 90s and 2000s, albeit stayed dormant until called upon for regime change, and then enforcing the law for the new authorities.

Please elaborate how exactly? There was a nationalistic groups at Maidan but they have gotten very little political capital in terms of seats in government. Ukraine just made a choice to more integrate with Europe and Russia was butt heart so they sent there troops to Crime and started sending money and equipment to separatists...and when that didn't work they sent in there military.
I am also from Mariupol. Emigrated to Germany about 25 years ago. Yes, back then they were one nation. No difference at all. We were all Russians there. Nobody in town spok Ukrainian. Yes.... At the moment I'm reading The Pianist (remember the movie?) He describes the appalling conditions in the Warsaw ghetto, and how, as brutal and nasty as things were under the nasties, when the Germans brought in Ukrainians to police the ghetto, their depravity, corruption and brutality was even worse than that of the Germans. There seems to be something in the Ukrainian character that makes one question what sort of a people they really are. After all, after the 2014 coup they started elevating Stepan Bandera to the status of national hero. This man, responsible for sending at least 10,000 jews and others to their deaths, has a holiday named in his honour, and statues erected of him, and streets and squares named after him. The Ukrainians are lovely people?

The people are orthodox, speak Russian, are ethnically and culturally Russian. Thank God for some of my levelheaded fellow Americans. I work with some of the most ignorant, indoctrinated and hateful people. I am the only one who’s pro Russian. Even though I am alone, I am not afraid to voice my opinion. My opinion happens to be knowledge of culture and history. Hello! Great work you are doing. I was in Mariupol in 2007 (you probably were a baby). It will be very interesting for the viewers if you show footage of the old government and apartment buildings that did not suffered much damage and the new buildings being erected. Also the type of education and indoctrination children were receiving under the Kiev government in your childhood and today's education and children programs. Many young teenagers and young adults were disappeared or killed since 2014. Many teens now young adults left Mariupol and Ukraine and will not go back. It's great that you are witnessing the historic transformation and improvements in social and economic life in Mariupol. 👍
@@VideosfromMariupol I know it takes time. You may have to explore the Universities' archives, newspaper or magazine relate to construction in Mariupol. I remember going to government buildings which had the old toilet design without actual toilet furniture. You can find pictures of the theater that was destroyed, a real beauty, and the new one. Or photos of the unpaved streets. Mariupol is becoming a landmark and example of embellished after the war.
At some point it doesn't really matter if you are pro Russian or pro Ukraine, what matter the most is that city HAS TO rebuild and another fight for it is pure disaster

At this very moment I am watching a documentary that they broadcast in Belgium, my country, yesterday, on our national TV, in prime time. It is called : “20 days in Mariupol”. It is an absolute western docu, used as propaganda against Russia. Russia and President Putin are portrayed as the worst on earth. It is tragic what has happened there, and nobody knows what is authentic. But no doubt that 95% of my countrymen do not know about all what happened in the past. They are not aware that this operation could have been prevented, and that the West, NATO and especially the US have forced Russia to take action. So frustrating !

Do you not think killing bunch of people for territorial gains is alright? If Ukraine joined NATO it wouldn't change anything because: nuclear weapons can be short from everywhere such as submarines and in a non nuclear war russia would lose extremely fast so Ukraines addition wouldn't change anything about that but that would not happen anyways because Russia has nukes and no matter what you think of NATO they cannot invade a nuclear state. It's basic common sense to understand that Ukraine joining NATO would have been to protect it from invasion.

@@silenochristen3532 Actually, money is problem nr 1, and my son with diabetis 1 ads to that, which isnt covered in Russia, and would cost aditional money, which i'm already short of.. When i win the lottery im gone.
if you live in the us or europe sell your house and move to russia you will be able to buy apartments with your funds i recommend to buy house in rural area or in cities outside moscow district so you can enjoy russia at its fullest
@@realityoverdose its not been possible to buy houses in my area for a long time, prices are average 500.000 in amsterdam for example. we have a shortage of 400.000 houses in holland. so many ppl in my generation adn generations after me dont own a house. So there is nothing to sell.

@@wooliac3426 As someone, who lived in EU, After past 9 years, i wont mind Russia taking control of Europe. They wont change much. Why i hate EU these days? Look at what they are doing: Uncontrolled mass immigration from 3rd world, rising Islamism, Covid Totalitarianism and now Green Deal destroying industry and agriculture of Europe. These same people say "Oh Russia is still soviet union", but ironically, EU leaders are senile ideologues, who care more about creating their imaginary paradise based on their stances, rather than creating functional society. Also UK is going to implement 15 Minute cities.
