tbh i’ve noticed that the idea of “cultural appropriation” is a western ideal. Most countries i’ve visited encourage dressing like them. They see it as a honor
Finally some common sense. Yes it is definitely a western thing and specifically the US Canada the UK and Australia its funny how in other places they actively try to share their culture and love it if you try to immerse your self in it
Ya a few people get pissed and loud so the whole country back tracks and tries to “fix” the issue. It’s nice because it means these countries care and want to be empathetic but it’s insane how ridiculous things have gotten and I’m ready to just be offensive at this point because it’s caused way more issues to try to make everyone happy. There will always be someone who is upset
I think it’s because if they’re in a country where almost everyone has the same culture, they haven’t been discriminated against like people in countries with many cultures

As someone from the Caribbean, there is no such thing as braids or dreadlocks being ‘owned’ by a group of people. If you go to any of the islands, you will see braids on all different types of people. Sharing traditions should be a good thing, sharing cultures should be a good thing. What makes the sharing of cultures so beautiful, is the equality proven. It shows how beautiful our world can truly be if we just put our differences aside and learn from each other, a world without racism. Cultures are not owned, but shared. Thanks for reading ❤️.

Braids don't belong to anyone, vikings had braids, Africans had braids, Asians had braids. Braiding your hair is just a way to put your hair together, it doesn't matter how thin it is or plenty it is. A braid is a braid whether it's Rapunzel style or cornrows 😂
@@celinemara565 braids are just a method of joining hair. That was my freaking point. If you wanna appreciate a culture the best way is by not wearing them that’s disrespecting the culture by wear them it’s not appreciating them if wanna appreciate a culture is by thinking their cool etc I’m black so theirs a difference between appreciating and and wanting to wear them white people say this all the time cause they don’t have a culture and they want everyone to pitch in just like how they did a back then🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
@@Akikkoo 1. "White people don't have a culture" do u realise how dumb u sound there? 2. Do u use toilet paper? Because Chinese people invented that so by your logic only Chinese people should be able to use it. Stop creating unnecessary segregation between cultures
@@snowbrover7491 ok so what culture does white people have and what do we use on a daily basis that was made by them toilet paper the stuff used to make it is and still being picked by slaves but i want you to answer my question
There isn’t anything wrong with having braids. No culture owns braids. That mindset is what keeps racism alive and creates more separation. Do your hair anyway you want too
@@randymarsh6286 Many Black women straighten their hair because society labels their natural hair as “unkempt”, “dirty”, “messy”. Have you not seen the many news articles about young black kids being discriminated against by their school because of their hair? C’mon dude, think critically here. If you’re seriously confused just google “why do black women straighten their hair”, “black hair and society”, or some variation. Otherwise just admit you don’t care
Culture isn't private property; it's something to be shared. Having to apologise for a hairstyle (especially one from when you were a KID) is just ridiculous.
@@switzer_no_switzingit’s not practical to “own” a hairstyle that’s just silly. “i did it first so you can’t do it! i crested it, i own it, you can’t copy us or that means you’re making fun of us” SO STUPID. ITS JUST FUCKING HAIR FFS braids are for protection not some sacred thing. ANYONE should be allowed to get them
To whoever’s reading this: Don’t let that sad crab in a bucket above me dictate your life. Participate in black culture however you see fit. As you can see by the majority of the comments, we’re more than happy to see people _appreciating_ our culture.
@@Omnihiloits not even only black cultur, Vikings used to do that as well. But anyway it doesn't matter, any culture is here to be shared and conserved. The liberals trying very hard and succeeding at putting some very toxic racism while working against it 😂 the irony, love me some blackrock agenda
You were on vacation in Cancun, I don't know if a family member did your hair like that, but it is common on the beaches of Mexico for indigenous women to work making these hairstyles like the one seen in the photo. Most women in Mexico have worn this hairstyle at some point in their lives while on vacation on the beach. There are many things that are shared in different cultures.
