How I Store & Organize My Ammo

A "quick" video on how I store my ammunition, put together while I was setting up a new container for my 9x19 ammo. For me, it's important to keep my ammo organized and portable, so I keep the shells in standard cases, and limit the amount I load in one ammo can to 40 lbf or less.
By the way, while I much prefer the metric system, the pound is going to be more applicable to the majority of my viewers. Those who weren't brought up to understand the universe in terms of 14th-century European agriculture can multiply any weight I mention in pounds by .454 to get kilograms.
I am working on more Tips & Tricks videos, as well as a new series. So while this is kind of another filler video, it's also a test run for some new techniques and equipment I'll be using on those future projects.
As always, I hope you found something useful here, and I'd be happy to answer questions and hear feedback.

Good idea but if it were me, I would just fill up the ammo can with whichever caliber ammunition to the top as weight wouldn't be too much of a priority. I can only imagine how much one of those 50 cal ammo cans could hold of loose 9mm bullets.
@SynchronizorVideos
@SynchronizorVideos 5 лет назад
Go ahead and put 60 or 70 pounds of weight in one of those cans (lead shot works well), and try to carry it any significant distance. Then try to tell me weight isn't something worth thinking about.

@@laconic151 my guy, the point was portability. Putting one on his back would be difficult due to it being, ya know, an AMMO CAN, and it would tire anyone out more

Back in college, I had to carry a replacement car battery across town on foot when my rig was dead. Similar size, shape, and weight (actually, a little lighter, probably) to a .50-cal can stuffed to the gills, and I had it in a backpack. That was not a fun experience. My back was messed up by the time I got home. And that was just the battery, not the other stuff you'd want to carry in a survival or SHTF situation. Even in a good backpacking rig that can support and distribute the weight better, 60 - 70 pounds on top of your other gear is not very realistic. That's the point of the 100-round plastic boxes in the can. Driving somewhere? Throw in the whole can. Need to hoof it? Take one or two of the smaller boxes.

Synchronizor This vídeo made me want to start in this knida prepper thing, At what age did you start with this? Im just 17
@SynchronizorVideos
@SynchronizorVideos 5 лет назад
I wouldn't consider myself a prepper. I'm too much of an optimist to expect the world to end at any given moment. I do believe very much in being prepared for emergencies though. Guns - although a lot of fun and certainly useful in certain scenarios - aren't even that high on the list, if you ask me. Medical training is a real big one that's bound to be useful. I always recommend starting with this one - I did back in middle school in the 1990s. I've never needed to fire a shot in anger in my life, but just a month or two ago I was under a semi trailer taking care of a cyclist that had lost control and gotten himself run over. Take a first aid/CPR/AED class at a minimum, and more advanced first responder training for bonus points. And set yourself up with a good first aid kit. Also learn some basic orienteering/navigation skills, and work on developing your sense of direction. Learn how to read a map, and to identify and work from landmarks. Memorize or write down important phone numbers as a backup. Modern smartphones with GPS and maps are very useful, but they can be a real crutch that makes other skills slide. Earlier this month, I was traveling in Tokyo with a coworker who used his phone for everything, and when it died on him, he had no clue where he was or which way he was walking. You can build on this toward legit wilderness survival skills if that's something you might be facing in your environment. Training aside, get yourself a good belt and carry some tools. A multitool, a flashlight, and a handkerchief are all easy to keep on your person, and are very useful in both emergencies and day-to-day life. Wear clothes that are practical and shoes that you can move in properly. If you drive, have at least a basic toolkit in your car, along with a first aid kit, a tow strap, flares, a compass & physical map, and emergency food, clothing, & water. It really is little things like this - combined with the right attitude and skills - that set you up to take charge and solve problems when there's a crisis.

Good video. Thanks. I only buy used surplus Ammo cans. To ensure a tight seal, I take an empty Ammo can and light a candle inside, lock it down and let it burn the air out. When you go to open it, if the can is hard to open and sucks air in on opening - indicating an airtight seal - it’s a keeper. Before use for long-term storage, I spray the rubber gasket with silicon lube.

Nov. 2, 2018----For those interested, you can buy new .50 caliber ammo cans at Walmart for $10 each, plus tax. Brother in Florida puts all his ammo into these things, but loose so all he has to do is grab a can when going to the range. Told me he could pack more ammo in the cans this way rather than keeping them in boxes like I've been doing. Decided to try it, but with my own twist to it. Each box was emptied into a zip lock bag with part of the cardboard box also inside it so I'd know what caliber, etc. it was. I'd put 100 rounds per zip lock bag. Shocked at how much ammo I was now able to store, but also how heavy the cans were when filled to the max. Spray painting ammo caliber is a good idea, just haven't done it yet. Originally, printed their sizes out on paper and taped it to the can. Spare/loaded magazines good idea. Thanks for the video.

A lot of the videos that I have seen are just people cramming factory boxes into a "small" ammo can and then throwing a tiny silica gel pack that they pulled from a shoe box. @SynchronizorVideos
@SynchronizorVideos 4 года назад
I'd rather just have a second ammo can. Deploying and re-stowing a shoulder strap would take more time than simply using your other hand to carry a second can. Besides, a shoulder strap isn't going to help if you have to lean over to lift the can out of your gun safe or your car's trunk, and that's really where a weight limit comes into play. Straight dead-lifting is one thing, picking something up from a less-ideal position where you also need to engage your back is a completely different animal.

I found that the 50 caliber ammo cans are a great choice when you want to go to the range and not have to Lug a whole bunch of stuff to the firing line. When I go to the range if I know I'm going to shoot say 200 or 300 or even 500 rounds what I do is I take all the ammo and I put them in Ziplocs. This makes organization very easy it allows me to carry two handguns in there as well as my hearing protection and my eye protection it takes a little getting used to the two guns I put in as a Glock 22 full size and a Glock 27. Now for SHTF here's what I do again I get the 50 caliber ammo cans I take the ammunition keep them in their original boxes for identification purposes then I wrap them in Ziploc and then on top of that I take a contractor garbage bag do a homemade heat Sealing impact each box accordingly for that day that I hope Never Comes. I was further Amazed by the fact that through experimentation an AOW AR-15 can fit. I saw this in another RU-vid video which inspired me...... As for ammo cans 5 use the military surplus Harbor Freight even the Walmart brands made in China the only thing I always do is check the gaskets on them and put some silicone to keep the gasket in good shape. Otherwise a recommended Edition to your gear

@SennaFan my dude, did you have a bad day 2 weeks ago or something? Why not just let other people enjoy the sport or shooting. It's not like wherever you're from there are no guns, just that they're not as open about it, probably because of people like yourself.

These ammo cans are also pretty good at holding sand and rocks. Of course when filled with sand and rocks, some dudes with weird hats might make you lift them above your head 100 times for some reason.

A really good video on ammo storage using ammo cans. I have six steel .30 cal. cans, one steel 50 cal, and 6 plastic cans. They contain 9mm, 45, 8mm, 7.55, .22, 410 and 20 ga. After seeing your video I really need to re-do my ammo some rainy day. Thanks for the tip!

the way you spray paint the box so you know whats inside gives it a fallout feel and its kinda cool

My favorite configuration you showed would have to be the 8 cases of 9mm, 6 magazines, and 2 glocks. That would be the perfect last stand box or something to put under the seat in a truck.

In my other ammo storage video, I also show a setup that fits ammo, a Glock, magazines, a holster, cleaning tools/supplies, spare parts, and so on into one .50-cal ammo can.

Well done. Like the spreadsheet and hand stacked 9mm in the bottom of the can was impressive !

Don't forget you can put silica gel packets in the cans to help keep it dry

For long-term storage, yeah, especially if you live in a humid reigon. I live in a fairly arid area though, and I'm opening & closing my cans constantly, so a desiccant packet doesn't really gain me much.
