Absolutely loved this video, Sami is so well behaved and it is clear how much he loves you and vice versa. Just love watching him in his doggie crocs and his sweet outdoor coats are adorable. Such a joy to watch 🥰🐶xx
I think Sami wears a nice harness, with two grips, one high, one lower on the back, and that's comfortable. I also trained him at home, following me alongside... he's not perfect, but with consistency he has improved! I have been using the collar for some time, soft not tight, and he seems freer to me. Every dog has its preferences!! Mickey is capricious.. but when we understand each other: everything is fine! 😄
Thank you for this. You are right-on. I’d just add that a head harness is needed for a dog reactive dog. My guy reacts to big dogs and I don’t want to punish him by yanking on his collar, but I do want him to look away until the dog has passed. Causing him discomfort would make him dislike big dogs all the more.
Very good point, yes! For reactive dogs, the harness is the best. Sami also reacts to (some) bigger dogs since he was attacked by an off leash dog, so the harness is much safer.
Sami is such good boy. great training video. My husband trained our Chihuahua mix, or tried to. I think the consistency was not there. She is much better with me, she knows she has him wrapped around her paw ha ha.
Thank you! 🧡 Haha, yes, whenever they feel you crack, they remember it and they are more likely to not listen next time. That's why consistency is important (even if it's the hardest part) 😅
Hello, I love your videos! I just got 2 Westies, they are siblings and adorable! It’s been so hard to walk with both of them at the same time. Watching your video I think I’ll try to walk them separately. Sammy is so cute and well behaved ❤️
Thank you for the video! Our major problem with walks now is other dogs. Whenever he sees any dog, he just stops, often lies down on the ground and refuses to walk. This is so embarrassing, I have no idea what to do and would appreciate any advice if Sami also had any issues like that
This is so helpful! it's been 15 1/2 years since I trained a puppy and I forgot so many things. It has been a lot of work to train him to walk on a leash but now I have some tips. Thank you! The biggest challenge I am having right now is getting him potty trained. Do you have any videos about that??
Hi! What paw size Crocs does Sami wear? You did a video on Sami's new Crocs shoes awhile ago. Thank you for the info I'd appreciate that alot. The weather is getting warmer soon and we hope to find summer shoes for our Westie. Big hugs for you and Sami!🤗🐕🐾
Hello, Miruna and Sami-- Thank you for presenting this lesson to my mommy. I'm still super excited whenever I go outside. I guess this is because of the scents of quail and rabbits that are VERY tantalizing. But it's hard for mommy to keep me focused. Also, I don't understand how she should teach me to sit when I'm on a leash and we stop walking. I usually just stop and stand, looking around. Do you have any ideas for her? Thank you. Gosh, I sure wish I could meet Sami some day... 💖 Miss Maisie Rose Loachmhor MacDuff Klock.
Hi Miss Maisie ❤️ Oh, the scents are VERY tempting! On some days they will win, but your mom shouldn't lose hope and keep at it, with time you will be more obedient. When she stops, she can hold the treat to your nose and ask you to sit. Then reward close to her leg (so that you understand to stay close and keep focused on her, not on the surroundings). If she keeps doing this, at some point you will learn to sit by default when she stops, without her having to say it 🤗 Good luck with training, you'll soon be great at it!!
Thank you, haha! He wears size xs, but next pair I buy I'll try the s, I feel like these might be a bit small because his dewclaw (thumb) is out and it shouldn't be 😅
Thank you. I will buy the same for Milo. Milo (Westie) is very picky about his food. We are getting hard time to feed him. Any food suggestions you can guide us for Milo?
@@milok5129 Sami can't have much meat or dairy, because his allergies flare up. So I rely on veggies - he loves sweet potatoes, pumpkin, broccoli and cauliflower. Sometimes mushrooms and cherry tomatoes (in small doses). He also loves scrambled eggs (no salt, just with a little milk or cream cheese) 😋 Have you watched my video with ideas for picky dogs? If not, maybe it will help, here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-colUM3zwuuo.html
It was difficult because back then I didn't know! 😅 So I used training pads in the house and it took him a looong time to learn to do it outside. I would definitely do it differently now! I will make a video and talk about this soon.
