I haven't played with mine much but I colored a boat in Kanoko Egusa page and it came out so good looking! I layered and layered and the light tone I put down first still shined through nicely. They can produce really complex colors that way, but yeah it to forever and not sure that's how I want to spend my time lol! It definitely seems like a better idea to base then use them, so I will try that next time. Oh and I watched some videos on how to use the white, and most artists said to lay it down first bc it will keep subsequent layers from going too dark, but yeah it won't go on top the way prisma does
Oh awesome very interesting about the white ! I didn’t know that! Ya you can layer on certain papers very nicely, but many of my books don’t have that good paper. Certainly layering comes out stunning if you put in the time , but I don’t have the patience for that ! Lol. Id love to see your Kanoko Egusa page progress. Have a wonderful week dear !
I don't have much experience with color pencils, so all your advice is much appreciated. Very informative video overall. :) And, wow, what a difference shading makes.
Thank you my dear !! Im so glad you liked the video !! Ya the dark colors are the best to start with and i go through them the most so i think thats the way to go ❤❤❤❤
You can use the Pitt Pens as base layer, they have the same colour numbers, just not that many. Polychromos is really great to build up your colour and let you change the colour even with additional layers. I like that because it lets you adjust colours while colouring the whole page. With pencils like Prismas, I see creators colouring area by area which I find really hard to do, as then my page isn't coloured evenly. Also, when building up all those layers with different colours, you really get very rich deep colours which look amazing, same goes for the Pitt Pens with the streak free result. It only takes up time 😃
Ooooo ive always wanted to try the pit pens as a base !! But they’re so dang expensive !! Still i think ill order some light green for leaves. Im sure you can do amazing things by layering polys and ive seen artists do that in beautiful ways !! Ya you’re right eveything you say, im just too impatient to color like that because i like to finish pages a little quicker. Lol but maybe one day ill try doing a page like that. Thanks for your comment
Oooooo im sure they are a great base Connie ! Ive never tried them, but hopefully one day i will. I sometimes use my supracolor watercolor pencils as a base also inktense pencils, only becasue that is what i have at the moment. Thanks for taking the time to comment ! Have a wonderful coloring month !
I know this is an older video but thank you. I just bought a set of PC and don’t know how to use. I have found though they lay over PrismColor. I am going to try your suggestions. I was ready to give up on them. I am also a PrismColor girl!!!!!!👍🏽❤️
Glad I could help! Yay ! Ya when you are used to prismas, polys look like they suck at first !!! But just give them a chance ! I also love using them on top of alchohol marker, it really matters what paper you use them on, but they can be layered for beautiful color combos. However im lazy so i like to use them on top of a watercolor base the best ! Because it cuts out a lot of the time and work haha! Enjoy playing them! Didnt know they could work on top of prismas ! Very cool.
I know this is older but I have a question well 2 …… what water color do you use under them and what does the water color do to this paper ? I have this book and would like to try it but I don’t want to ruin the page on the other side. Excellent video. Ty.
Hi Maia! 🙋 Are you trying to talk me into liking my Polys? I would agree - much finer lay down. I would say they glide over the paper, while Prismas stick. They glaze beautifully, if one has the patience for a million coats? 🤷. I shall give this technique a try. I'm off to see part 2. Ttfn. 🖖👽
Lol Doodle !! I love your sense of humor 😂, you always make me laugh ! I have no patience for a million coats either !! Some colorists are amazing with their patience, they dont mind spending 25 minutes on one flower !! Yikes !! Not me lol, but i do admire them. But ya i love basing with something underneath these pencils, im trying to convince you to shade with these on top of your alchohol markers instead of prisma, just to try and see if you like it ! On smooth paper tho theres nothing like a prismacolor !! ❤
Thank you for demonstrating the Polys. One question, how do you get the blends to look smooth when you are finished? Do you use a blending pencil or mineral spirits? I like the layering, but the colors don't look like they seamlessly blend together the way my prismas do based on this. Maybe I am seeing it wrong?
No you are seeing it right, i personallly dont mind a little messy grainy goodness on top of my watercolor base, because i like the look overall , i dont need it to be perfect up close, hope that makes sense. And no i dont use any mineral spirits ever because its toxic, with prismas i use the blender pencil. With polys i always base with an under color so i dont feel the need to blend what i lay on top ❤❤❤ hope that explains it good. Thanks for watching ! Happy coloring
