Very helpful. Very similar advice to other successful stories of rapid progress to relatively high levels. I am doing similar, and it works. 300 elo in about 3 months or so.
Currently been stuck on 1300 for the past two months. Plateauing is never fun, but its all part of the journey. A tip I can give to avoid tilts is to stop playing more games after 2 losses and try again tomorrow. Because sometimes you just have a bad day, so its best to minimize the damage and power through the tilt. Edit : 1600 now and getting better and better
@@ReyChessYT Again horrible advice. You need losses to make yourself get better. If everyone just went around winning then there would be no point in playing the game. I've had a streak of 30 losses in a row in one sitting because I was trying new things and then boom I went on a 67 winning game winning streak. If you want to play chess than just do it I like to say. There's ups and downs but it's up to you to decide which is which.
I'm at 1050ish, and he was actually spot on up until my elo range. (can't truly comment on above that.. yet.) even down to not starting to watch Naroditsky until now. I've watched him when I was sub 1000 and his videos were to complex for me to get fully, but now I see I'm ready for them. good job man!
don't worry bro, i was in your shoes a few months ago. I plateaued at that exact level, but just recently exploded to 1250- ish. keep focusing, man! It will come!
That's impressive, I'm 1500 and I'm trying to grow.. The series the you were talking about is "the sensei Speed run "for free on RU-vid ? Thanks so much
You absolutely LAUNCHED youreself with high quality video’s! When you reach 500, 100, 100000 and 10000000 subscribers remember i was here before 150 subs, because i know for sure that you will get there!
@@nacht3675 That isn't based on just a few games either. I definitely improved since last year. I played about 150 games in rapid, and 83 or 89 games in blitz. So those ratings are based on a decent sample size imo. If I wasn't so busy trying to do other things right now, I'd definitely be playing and studying more. Maybe with time.
@@md.shahiduttarif2831 I haven't played in more than a few months now. It was like 1329 in rapid I believe, 1100 something in blitz. Not bad though for only using online tutorials and a lot of repetition. I played against computers a lot offline. Shows you can really brute force your way through it for at least a little while.
This was an inspirational video! I'm around 1300 *Rapid ELO in about the same amount of time of playing and was beginning to think I couldn't progress without a coach. Now I know it's 100% possible.
Great video man. Took a lot of useful information out of this one. Played chess for the first time about 5 months ago and I’m fluctuating between 500-600 elo rapid at the moment.
Thanks! amazing video. currently sitting at 1250 blitz after 1.5 years without focusing on really improving. you just fueld my competetive spirit! i ll try to get better
@@gabrielggc Flex? Trust me bro if there's one game I wouldn't flex on its most definitely at chess. It took me literally 4 Frickin years to get to where I am now and yet I still fall below 1900 to like 1750 and have to gain my rating back. Chess is brutal if anything it's really impressive to go from 400 to 1600 in a year it took me maybe 2½ years to get to 1600 which I think is normal and achievable. This dude on the other hand is probably talented.
Thanks man! I have a pretty technical background in engineering and programming so I think that's contributed a lot to my super fast progression! Cheers to 2000 elo!
i personally thought i was good when i reached 1500 in 2 months of playing, but ive been stuck at 1600-1650 since february (i started playing chess before the new years when i got a chess set for christmas) and ive been doing alot of tactics, and a bit of studying since then but im stuck.
for anyone who is starting their chess journey one thing to consider is the higher rated you get generally the less fun it is as you will have to sit there and really think about your moves and it might really start effecting you
I disagree. No matter your level the thinking is the same, 2 1000's playing will think as much as 2 2000's, the main factor is the rating difference. Like if i play vs a 1200 i won't need to think much because of the rating difference, if ur opponent rating is the same you have to think the same amount no matter your level.
Just started playing the Caro Kann myself and it helped me from the 1600 to the 1700 grind. Thinking of trying to take chess a little more seriously just to try and see if I can reach that sweet 1800 for the lolz.
I’m gonna try to get to 1800 before the end of my first year, but it’s amazing how similar our progress was haha, keep it up man! I would love to play you sometime (I’m at 1700 rn)
Great content! I restarted 2018 and did fast improove - but than stagnation came, I played weired openings. I now restarted with serious - even boring - openings and now within a Month i won 300 Elo and do 1546 new all time high. Motivation is now back.
@@ReyChessYT No problem!! :)) Your channel is crazy, 3 videos all a lot of views, especially this one, but nobody subscribing, they missing out. Excited for all your videos in the future!!
Great video! I started chess two months ago and went from 100 elo (literally losing every single game) to 1200 elo in that time! I usually play 2-15+ 10 min rapid games a day depending on the time I have. So far very happy with my progress and hope to reach 1800 by the end of the year!
So I've been trying to get serious with chess and after around 3 months at it I've struggled and plateaued. Then, I came across this beauty of a video. PUZZLES PUZZLES PUZZLES! Total game changer, never thought twice they would help so never did them and now I'm on them daily and they serious improve your gameplay, get a puzzle app and watch your rating shoot up
I just have a few pointers as someone rated quite a bit higher. 1. Benko gambit and caro kann will not help you progress quickly. They will slow you down if anything and youll have to learn the sicilian sooner or later. 2. Do 3 minute puzzle rush. It really helps you spot tactics in time pressure and you get much more familiar with some easy tactics cuz lets be honest, up to like 2000 all of us hang pieces 3. Learn the 2 bishopmate and if you can the bishop knight althought this isnt neseccary. 4. Watch higher rated players play or analyze games. Even GTE has smth to offer because Gotham usually tells you what the best movw in a position is and even subconsciously it gets imprinted on your brain and when you see a similar position this move will come to mind very quickly.
Been playing chess for 7 months and yet my highest elo is 1k. I keep quitting, stopping thats why im still stuck as a low rated player. Meh, I'll just play chess for fun cuz I am so bad
@@ReyChessYT your video is very detailed and informative. If I'm not wrong, you didn't say which game length (minutes) you preferred (if you had one) during your journey or which one you find more didactic. Could you please share your opinion? In any case, thanks again for your effort. 🙏
@@CarloPerassi Definitely rapid/classical are the best if you wanna improve at thinking and planning in chess. If you wanna build your intuition and quick thinking skills then bullet and blitz.
I’m on a journey to 1600 from 1388 and my puzzle rating has been stagnant at 2200. One thing that does help the most in like you mentioned in the video, visualizing the next few moves, however , I love chess a lot and have played for hours and years on end but my brain has been taking a toll mentally processing premoves and best moves multiple times with multiple scenarios. So I feel like a beginner again because it’s mentally exhausting lbs now I understand how my non chess friends feel when they don’t know what move to make when I try to solve 2500 rated puzzles wish me luck tho
Thx for the tips on how to reach 1600 man its really hard for me to get away 1600 it drop to 1582 as always thx this will boost my journey ❤❤ Edite 1: Im now currently 1846
5:15 Disagree with this one. Endgame principles should be learned from the beginning for two reasons: First, you don't have to do it later when it becomes more important Second, in this elo range, knowing these basic and slightly advanced endgame principles will give you an upper hand, meaning every game, you can try to push into endgame as quickly as possible and dominate there
When I saw you recommend learning middlegame plans I was like YES! YES! YES!!!! Being able to find good plans not only has the benefits you listed in your video but can also: Lead to better time management (you don't get fixated on moves that aren't part of your plan, thus reducing the amount of candidate moves you need to calculate) Opponents blundering more (many people blunder when under pressure for multiple moves; the higher you go, the more moves you'll have to play, but usually this holds true. By adhering to a consistent plan you are always putting pressure on your opponent to consider your plans, even when you're objectively worse. TLDR: you create your own luck) Higher quality moves (In conjunction with my first point, you can play better and faster. The best move in the position is ALWAYS the move that carries out the best plan in the most efficient manner. Even if it is not an efficient method, and even if it isn't the best plan, your moves will always be reasonable and grounded, and it is much less likely for you to land yourself in trouble if you play in a principled manner) Great video!
You’re so right about the puzzles. I watched no videos on RU-vid, learned no book openings, and only understood the basic concepts like control the center and develop. I got to around 1500 on the puzzles and I immediately knew how to play and win games 😂
When I was 10 my elo was literally 400. Whan I became 11 I started to give interest in chess. Then one of my friends who is actually 1300 elo started teaching me . But it didn't increase my elo . Now when I am 12, I literally own an elo of 1700, only after watching this guy.....Thank you very much..👏👏
your good.. but in march 23 i wanted to play chess, i didnt know anything..after these two months i became a 1600 rated and now trying to go bigger, nice one dude for real youre really good
Best video for a beginner like me. I love the London! I went to the library and got a book… Ive been a bodybuilder for years but felt I was lacking in mental training. I was also in Civil Engineering (dropped out) but recognized I had no spatial recognition, pattern recognition, or very good problem solving skills… I, too, have been scouring for educational YT vids, and love your recommendations! Sick vid, bro and thank you!! Gonna start puzzles soon!!
Here are some openings/defenses I play "the dragon, caro-kann, king's indian, king's and queen's gambit and alot more". My fav opening/defense for white it's the italian, for black scandinavian or caro-kann.
Let me complete high school and college in just six years and also complete my graduation and get a degree in maths in idk how many years, then I'll devote my time to learn chess, learn new languages, go to the gym and improve nyself overall
I went from 600 elo to 2300 elo in half a year because i played every day here is The schedule puzzles: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM bullet: 2:00 PM-3:00 PM blitz: 5:00 PM-7:00 PM rapid: 8:00 PM-10:00 PM
Much love to you my dude! I'm 3:30 in and you said the truth i needed to hear. There is to much free wisdom online about chess for the basics of chess beginners logic.
I started chess when I started college(also engineering). Am the end of my first semester now and went from 400 when I started, to 900 as of now. great video.
