This is just what I did during my first couple of years of training. It works, but there are safer and smarter ways to train... I will cover what I did after this in later videos.
I'd be a happy man with just 35" vert lol. But yeah, I'm gonna keep grinding. I've got the rim to the part below all my fingers when I jump. Not gonna give up, you're my inspiration so I believe I can too. Your story is quite familiar, as I started weight lifting at 15 just to make the school team which I did, but then I saw lot more competition and my eyes finally opened. I'll proudly make a dunk mixtape video someday and include you dunkers as my inspiration this whole time. Wish me luck, brother.
Jonathan What do you mean by natural potential? He started just like most of the teens and worked his ass off since he was 15, so, somebody with a lot of natural potential is somebody who jumps higher than everyone at the beginning? So this is because of hard working since so many years that je jumps that high and not high potential ?
@@Raven55549 Both, I prefer jumping on two but can get the same height on both, in fact, sometimes my one foot can be a little better but my two foot is more consistent
Crazy motivation that im ahead of guys like you and kilganon, even though i may not get as tall or fill out as good as yall it gets me pumped to think about
shrek645 your mom must be 99’13 and 2662 pounds with a 9999 vertical and your dad has got to be about 100’82 and 3000 pounds with a 999999999999 vertical and a 10000 wingspan
Inspiring story man, loved seeing you in Dunk League. The secret for me has been weightlifting as well, but I am quite lucky to be 6'4,5 right now and 6'3 when I got my first dunk. So getting to the point where I was able to dunk came quite quick, fortunately
Awesome bro, I just saw you on Dunk League and even though you didn't win, to progress from the start to being one of the top 10 globally is just mind blowing! Since I was young I've always wished I could dunk because it just seems like such a cool thing to be able to be, hopefully with training I will!
I’m 200 lbs, 17. Absolutely obsessed with basketball but I have a weight problem. I can touch a rim but nowhere more. Now I see that everything possible for me. Wish you luck wit your dunking career🔥🔥. Hello from Ukraine✌️
Im 6 feet and have always been over weight my whole life...i was only able to grab the rim one time in my life about 8 years ago and that was when i was doing insanity and about 50 pounds lighter..now im working on getting back to my highschool weight (170)..i started taking my health seriously and i was able to grab a 9 foot rim being off the vertical(never could do that ever) being 50 pounds overweight simply by squatting 3 times a week...thanks for letting me share...and getting in shape feels awesome no matter how slow its going
bro I've been powerlifting for a few years now and I tend to see a lot of people at my gym doing these 3 lifts with pretty bad form but ur form is actually really good bro good work!
Hi man, It is so fun to hear- "I just worked/watched/ learned/obsessed for hours!" putting in the work has such a high value! thanks for spreading great mindset!
Thank you so much, I am in the summer before my senior year and I just hit my first dunk on a 9.4 to 9.5 hoop yesterday. I am still going to practice every day unless I need a day rest or if it’s raining
Thanks for everything isaiah.. You cant really imagine how much you helped me and i hope in the future, one day i will dunk with you in a slam dunk contest.Dont forget this..
I'm 5'8 and can grab the rim with half of my fingers and when I saw you on dunk king you inspired me to dunk and get above the rim so I really thank you for that!!!
Broh was really amazing how your jumping went higher through the time. I just wanna ask you if they are some specifics exercises that I could take to implement in my routines.
I really like how you went through your journey. I did the exact same thing in my teens in the 90s. The Exact same thing. Kept dunking on a low rim, kept jumping obnoxiously, like if there's a tree and a dead leaf hanging high, I'd try to pull the leaf. There were a ton of trees where I used to live. I worked out mostly my legs at the gym. Unfortunately I am only 5'5 so I only got to touch rim with 2 hands. I could've kept going but I got injured. I'm Filipino and we played in flip flops, so yeah lol One thing I did as well was always walked at home on my tip toes like ballet dancers.
very encouraging- dope!!! new sub. i used to dunk when i was a teen and in 20's, i did all the work u did in this video in the 90's and early 2000's. then i got married, kids, stressed, out of shape. now im back into it because my son is playing (14years old) and we are trying to dunk together, him for the first time- me for the second time. we will watch ur youtube together bro.
Love this, I’m 5’10 and have been stuck at the point where I can get half my hand over the rim but can’t dunk. Gonna start jumping every day after my workouts!
What I like in this video that's super underrated is that your lifting form is perfect. Most people overlook their form when squatting or deadlifting. If you get hurt you're not gonna be dunking.
This is honestly so inspiring for me cause it’s so relatable. I’m 15 right now and I’m trying to make the school team this season, and it’s my first time.
I’m 5’8” and I got my first couple of dunks about a month ago on about 9’9”-9’11” rims at LA fitnesses. It’s on my channel if you wanna see btw. But Isaiah has been a huge inspiration for me. Been following this dude for months on ig and just seen that toe tap dunk where he touches the ball with his feet behind him. Crazy. Keep up the good work man 💯
I'm 5'9 and i used to be able to touch the rim back in high school about 10 years ago.. Just got back into ball again, this vid gave me some motivation to train to be able to dunk
Thanks for the post! Lots of great stuff here especially in regards to how you trained without rest days in between. Not that rest isn't important and the risk of over training, but the important thing is to know your limits. If a guy can do it, than do it!
Short gang short gang💪💪I'm 5'5" but luckily I play Volleyball so I only really need a 9'6" or so reach to be a good spiker. I've been stuck at 8'11" or so reach and touched 9' only four times but I'm going to ramp up my training and start weightlifting!
This is inspiring, I'm only 5' 7" or 5'8" but I can almost grab rim on 10'. Think I'm gonna try and hit the gym a bit and focus on my vert more. I just want to se the look on some ones face when the shortest kid on the court yams one down there throat😂
Been training legs all my life since I was about freshman year of high school and the one thing I regret is not keep all the progress and the mess-ups I had to show where I stand today. I thought this was a cool video.
I tried working on my dunk one summer. That was the end of that. Now I know why I was so far off. That took a lot of work. Way to go! My obsession was guitar....
I'm 5'7" or 8" and the best I ever got was getting my fingertips over the top of a 10' rim but now Idk if i can anymore. I think its gonna be my mission to dunk 10 foot cause it would be funny for someone my height to dunk, dont see that too often. Thanks for the inspiration
Glad i found your channel im using this explosive training for snowboarding/soccer if i can dunk one day at 5'7 im going to be over stoked appreciate you sharing your journey
I remember being 16 and just getting my first dunk and finding you on RU-vid and seeing that you got your first dunk at the same age and being super inspired by you the same way you were by kilganon. Unfortunately I am now 18 and can’t get consistent two handed dunks 😂 not quite the same story.
Hey Isiah , I’m 43 years old and for 1 years now I’m working my leg muscles to try touch the rim again! the last time I touched the rim was like over 20 years ago and I noticed you we’re doing pistol squat, I was doing that several months but stopped! I’m going back into that again!
I just turned 13 and I’m 5”6 and my vertical is about 30 inches just jumping up without bending my legs, I’m improving my jumping and my overall ball game, and watching this inspires me to know there is no limit for how high you can jump or your dream 💪
Man! Can’t wait for that next video! I can 360, windmill, tomahawk and all consistently, but am looking to take the next step towards eastbaying and 360 windmills as well as Elbow hang dunks! Keep them coming! Also, any advice for dunking off vert technique?
@@clappy2x9 yeah but what I mean is If I have enough strength to touch the rim without running at all, just from standing vertical, does it mean I have enough strength to dunk from running vertical?
I definitely agree that jumping is the best way to get better at jumping but doing so every day for hours can lead to nagging injury. It is best to jump every other day consistently or do a pattern of rest days maybe increasing towards the middle of the week. Remember consistency is the key to reaching your goals!
I started to try when I saw the dunk league episode. several months ago I can touched the 9'9 rim at this time I tore my left knee because hitting on the floor after jumps. Now i can touch the 10 rim... but only jump from one leg, lost the two legs bounce. It seems like I don't make any progress after my knee get injured...... dunno what else can I do now… a 5'8 kid ~
I'm 5'5 i just touched the rim the first time 2 weeks ago, still working on my mechanics since I can't touch it consistently. But your video was really inspiring!
What kinda strength numbers did you hit? I know I was at 31in vert and 34 inch running when I was at 210lb but the season is on the brink of starting and after training camp I stopped the gym. I'm probably back down to 27in or so but I want to hit the 35-36 standing. Gonna keep the daily (4-5 times week) plyo's while doing a low level strength work any strength speed exercises or you simply did the jump variations and strength work
I am still very amazed and very impressed with your 365 front squat. That is literally 2 times your body weight. And it isn't like you are 5'8". I have known plenty of 181 pound class competive power lifters. They don't typically train front squats but I doubt even if they did that they could match you on this one lift. Impressive.
Crazy... I remember Adam Linkenauger's stuff from my old training days. I used to be all over the online training programs a few years ago. Good times :'( I don't even hoop anymore, but I wish I had taken athleticism more seriously. I had the skill, but I was so unathletic especially when it came to strength and didn't really lift weights until after high school. Even when I played for my team, I avoided lifting at all costs because I hated it but now I know athleticism is really what takes a player to the next level
Just saying these basic tips help a lot. I started my dunk journey about five months ago and went from barely touching the rim to doing dribble dunks. Thank you so much!!
@@user-ge7tu6df2n I’m 17 and I don’t do jumping anymore but it’s just best to get out and jump if you want to jump higher. Also if you want to use weights and stuff, squats, deadlifts, and power cleans are all good
As embarrassing as it is I’m 6’1 and I can’t even touch a 10 foot rim but this video is very inspiring as I jump off 2 feet aswell and I always thought that it was odd that I can’t jump off one comfortably but I’m going to start my journey to being able to dunk because Ik it is possible as I got some height to me I just need to do some weight training and jump more
ik this is 3 years ago but im similar, im 6'1 and can just barely touch the rim on 10ft, though i feel more comfortable with 1 foot, might change sometime but currently a one foot jumper, since it has been 3 years whats your progress been like and do you have any tips?
I first touched the rim when I was 12 years old, I'm 14 and only rim gazing 😂 ( I can now do reverses and 360 dunks, just shows how much you can improve in a small amount of time)
@@fetumapu9576 oh I'm 12 and like 6ft tall with shoes on but i couldn't play cause off health issues i hope i can still dunk a tennis ball when i come back in like 2 weeks
you motivate me to jump higher man!! 🤞 so now I will practice to jump higher so I could dunk,I am a Filipino athlete and I'm 15 years old and I will do your techniques thanks mann!!! 💯💯
I injured my knee a year ago from jumping, and can still not jump without pain 8 months after surgery. Just a heads up to everyone, jumping is very harsh on the body.
I feel you dude. In 6th I had a 29 inch vertical and I trained my ass off in 7th to get a 34 inch vertical. I’m around 4 inches away from touching the rim on a basketball hoop.
That’s a awkward dunk to do off one leg that’s why u never really see it, the main thing is to get your timing and coordination down, So just practice on it for about 30 min every day 1st work on your footwork and hand placement using about 50 percent effort when u get comfortable with that then start giving 100 percent
Gonna be honest, genetics play a huge role. Also arm length. You want too have a strong core as well. Dunking isn’t just legs, it’s core and technique. Overusing your legs will cause pressure on knees which can cause tendonitis. That can lead to a torn ACL and MCL. Be careful out there and make sure your quads and core is super strong so your knees don’t have a lot of pressure on them. Arm length plays a huge role too, I’m 6’2 and I have a 6’6 wingspan I don’t have to jump very high to dunk I literally just have to palm the ball and put it in. Also I can jump high because of genetics and working on my legs, take this advice and use it. Work hard but be safe.
Christian Rodriguez I trained core for once in my life and the next week of resting I legit dunked for the first time. I had so much power which was disconnected through my weak core
Christian Rodriguez yea wingspan is very important I’m 16 6ft and have a wingspan of 6‘6 and I can dunk on a 10 feet rim although I don’t have a crazy vertical I would say it’s pretty good but not insane
how tall are you is the most important question. I'm 5'10 3/4 but heavier, close to 210 pounds since im into bodybuilding. So I think someone my weight and at my height would have to have nearly perfect jump technique and practice.
I can hit my best dunks on 9'5 like a 360 reverse, double pumps, tiny mini windmill, double pumps off self lobs and can do like different variety of tomahawk dunks but when I get to the higher hoops like 9'9 and 10 ft its either one handers or finger tip grazers lol. Im 29 6'0..
You had to be sore all the time, how did you get through that 5 days on straight dunking and strength training? and then only 2 days off. How do you feel now about dunking when you are sore? Thank you
