I love these race-oriented videos, which are insightful and inspiring. Also, you share a philosophy with Satchel Paige, the great baseball pitcher, who said: "Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you." But he also said "I don't generally like running," so I guess there is not as much overlap in philosophy as I thought. Great job and best wishes.
These voiceovers are wonderful, informative, and really humanize the professional athlete. Hearing you explain your thought process-starting a slow burn kick because you know the kick isn’t your strong suit, having the fear of looking back because of all the horror stories you’ve heard like the rest of us-it all makes you seem less like this untouchable speed demon who got lucky with the gene lottery and more like someone who worked really, really, *really* fucking hard to get to where you are. I think it’s easy to forget the mental game that goes into every race for pro athletes, no matter how naturally fast they are.
That's so true...every person who wins a race is just a human, and there's so much that has to go right for that moment to happen for them. It's easy to forget that.
Not the first time I've watched this race, it was awesome. You looked so relaxed and smooth. Thanks for the commentary you are not the only runner I follow, but certainly my favorite. Have fun 😃😀
Excellent seeing that again. Grayson Murphy is currently listed as a volunteer coach at Utah. Maybe goin' to grad school there or just living and running in the area.
Cool! I was an exchange student in the US back in 2010-2011 and did track and field, and I ran the steeplechase once and got 2nd. It was no big meet though, just the next step up from just our county. I had no idea what I was doing and definitely went out too slow. Even though I never ran at your level, I can definitely relate to your thoughts. Usually in my class back home I was always expected to win the little time-trial we had in gym class every semester. For w/e reason this was always so important to me. Maybe because you know everyone so well, kinda like singing in front of your friends. Anyway, you can't pretend that anything but a win is a disappointment, so you just have to deal with it. The best way is to just win it. Looks like you came to the same conclusion! :D
Dangggggggg that's fast! I love hearing your perspective, it makes this more personal and encouraging to watch than just admiring your skills ♡ thanks for sharing!!
The voice over videos are great! You get to tell us what you were thinking about during the race. Although you won by quite a bit, some of the other placings were very close. Western based schools were very prominent in your race as well.
Could you do a video about race strategy? I'm not a runner, and I've never understood why people don't go all out from the beginning of the race in the finals. It makes sense if you have a strong kick, but if you have one of the top PBs in the field, why wouldn't you push that pace from the beginning?
There are many factors that go into racing. Physical condition and ability at the time. The type of course. The weather. Different skill sets. There are things I don't even want to mention here but there are a lot of strategies.
What an interesting and candid channel. Glad I found it. Enjoy the insight in all your "Day in the life of an elite runner" videos. Now then.... when does your racing season start? 🏃♀
its so cool that each of the people you highlighted are now in rly different running events like mountain running marathon and steeple like super cool its also fun to hear abt ur strategy and mentality so defo more voiceovers
Hi Allie that was fun watching your race with your commentary. That was nice giving an an update on some of those other Women. I always thought at some point that you would excel in the Marathon. Let us all know your race plans for 2023 when you have them figured out. Best regards......
@@allie_ostrander You will do well in the Marathon, staying healthy is the key and training for the Marathon means higher mileage of course and that sometimes can be an issue for some runners. However to mitigate the amount of injuries training on soft surfaces most of the time will definitely help. Also cross training on the days when you are not doing specific training which you seem to do well, although sometimes it is not that much fun. 😀Best regards......
Awesome video. You are truly inspirational. My only question is do you recommend a running watch? I’m doing running more often and I’m looking for a good watch that’s not overly expensive.
You are such an inspiration! I am only ten years old and I love to run! I made it to nationals, but couldn't go because it was in Texas, keep doing what you are doing and I love your vidoes!!!!!!!!
"I Love Danger" I ran Cross Country in H.S. and College and Did not do Track but ran The Steeple a Few Times all comers. Wow It was fun and you are Right about the Danger. It was crazy how you forget that oh crap who I have this barrier i have to go over besides running fast. So much Fun. I have a question. BTW love the voice stuff So YES!!!! When Someone is near you and is heavy breathing does it bug you and you want to get away from them so it does not throw your breathing off or stride? Also, the Heavy breathing it that a clue to attack and close them out and not give them a chance? Keep up the good work on your Running and your Channel.
When someone’s breathing heavy beside me in a race, I always feel good because it gives me a hint that they might be struggling, which gives me confidence.
Truly excellent! At first when I saw the title of this video, of "How I won my second NCAA Title", the words instantly came to mind that...."You ran faster than everybody else!" Very good insight on goals you set and achieved, and on your dedication to your training, with your strong belief in self. Normally I would share some related running story, but not for this video as I have no background of winning a national championship...let alone back to back, and for which, I think you did this three times in a row? As you have beaten some world class athletes, I have no doubt that if you desire to return to that very top level, you will realize wonderful success. You have speed, strength, amazing strength of mind, and truly for lack of any better term.....a whole lot of guts. Oh yeah, I forgot humor. I couldn't stop laughing after you took off in 10 degree weather, ran up a hill that was covered by snow, and then plummeted into the snow, which you crawled through, and with this expression that conveyed instantaneous total body freezing and abject misery, you said "refreshing". Good Lord, I loved that....still laughing!
It's nice to hear your story. Some of your competitors that day are still running well. (In the whole idea of competitive runners being a "goal" runner or a "task" runner, I'm a task runner. I love to run and I love to race a lot. I watched the Australian Men's and Women's World Cross Country trials and it looked like a lot of fun to me because that's where the WXC will be.)
excellent video thanks you for sharing your past races with us. You an excellent athlete have you thought of trying for qualifying for the Olympics i think you would crush it. I wish i could run unfortuntaley i cannot have very bad ankels and its kind of a personal uncomfortable subject for me but my legs bow for some reason and every time i try to run it really hurts however i can walk on trails abut 4 -6 miles 4 days a week which is better then not being able to at all. I struggel with being over weight and its hard when i hear people judging me all around i have learned to realize that its just noise and to ignore the negatvity your channel helps me alot with my self confidence i apprecitate you for sharing your postives and struggles.
I'm glad that you are able to get outside and enjoy the trails. I'm sorry to hear about judgmental people hampering your confidence. There is certainly a lack of awareness around body image and how deeply comments around those topics can be felt. I'm glad that my videos can help boost your confidence :)
Awesome video Allie, love the thumbnail for this one! Hyped for your breakdown for the third one too and you gotta reference that iconic video interview after the race LOL
I did it at the 2021 Olympic trials, but decided to take some time away from it because I was struggling with injuries and thought all of the hurdling and track work had an impact on that.
I don't think it's much of a disadvantage in women's steeplechase because the barriers are only 30" high, but it's more of a factor in the men's race which has 36" barriers.
Wow, your perspective, research and training for this race was incredible! And then to attain your goal and earn your 2nd title is truly remarkable!! You are a very humble and inciteful talent!! A great champion indeed...
Definitely love your breakdowns of not only your races, but also what leads up to them. I recently watched the video about your first title, and I wished there were more that I could watch.
