I was asked a lot in the comments of my last video, how I would have made Fallout 3. So I wanted to dive into it a bit here and show how using some of the ideas that Bethesda introduced, you can have a more original story that adds new things to the Fallout universe lore.

I feel Enclave was all over America. Possibly even in Canada. The Enclave would have been viable, but not Classic BOS. BOS should have stayed Best Coast. I would have liked to see another faction Rocking PA Like Iron Alliance.
@TKsMantis
@TKsMantis 4 года назад
I can halfway agree with the Enclave theory you have here. I think to push them forward as a faction is excellent, but it cancels what happens in Fallout 2. It wouldn't be a huge deal that the Enclave were destroyed if they actually had advanced bases all over the US with full fleets of Vertibirds. I am not against them being in Fallout 3, even the way they are now. I can see them being all over the US. I just thought that some other things would have added a different vibe to the East Coast. Making it feel like more unique and exciting things were happening on each side of the country.
@Vaterlandstreuer
@Vaterlandstreuer 4 года назад
I mean, I think that if the destruction of the oil rig was kinda overshadowed by the existence of the rest of the Enclave, so be it. I see it like the Hoover Dam; all of FNV there’s this huge focus on Hoover Dam, but in reality, it won’t really change that much in the future. Legion territory is enormous, expanding into Colorado and on a very large part of the pre-war US-Mexican border. Manpower is plenty, and with only the East to hold, the Legion can easily hold back NCR troops if the NCR wins the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, in large part due to the difficulty in supplying the NCR’s troops in the Mojave. And if the Legion wins the Dam, which seems quite likely, considering the Legion has already crossed the Colorado, can harass NCR supply lines, and has the numerical superiority (without a supply deficit), that doesn’t mean the Bear is defeated. Sure, New Vegas is ripe for the taking and the Mojave will most likely fall, but if the Legion pushes any further, the rest of the NCR military (that has better supply lines near the Long 15) can easily hold the rest of the Legion back. In reality, the Second Battle of Hoover Dam only affects the Mojave. After the Mojave either stays under NCR control, or falls to the Legion, the Long 15 will turn into another Hoover Dam, or the Dam will practically remain the border between NCR and Legion. Neither the NCR, nor the Legion will actually be defeated. Hoover Dam and New Vegas are symbols, nothing more. In reality, they dictate very little in the grand scheme of the NCR-Legion War. That’s how I view the destruction of the Oil Rig; a sizable loss for the Enclave, but not the end. The Enclave would live on, Oil Rig or not. So who cares if the events of Fo2 are seemingly minor if the Enclave survives; they are pretty minor, in that case. I don’t think that making sure the end of Fo2 stays important should defy logic. Personally, I think the Enclave has many logical reasons to be in the Capital Wasteland, especially considering it’s, you know, the CAPITAL. I feel like the Enclave would most definitely prioritize taking back the heart of pre-war America. And if they’re all over America, which they most likely are, it would make sense to send men there. In my opinion, Fo3 would have been better if they kept the Enclave and made it joinable (without the parent story and tracking down dad, you would come from a vault and therefore be unmutated), remove the BoS, probably remove super mutants, unless they came up with an actual reason for them to be there (maybe something with the Enclave), beefed up the Rangers and Talon Company, and then maybe implemented another new larger faction in place of BoS, to give the Enclave a new rival in the Capital Wasteland. Making all of those factions joinable, and, similar to Fo4, having different endings for each, would give the player actual choices and several different friends or enemies to help or destroy. As the Enclave you could possibly side with Autumn and persuade the Enclave to unify the Capital Wasteland, or just poison it and remove Autumn. As the Talon Company, you could have a water-monopoly and profit off of the water supply or something. As the Rangers you could protect the purifier and help the people of the wasteland with water for lower prices (or free) than Talon Company. I think with multiple factions with different ideologies, goals, and morals, the player could choose a faction they like, shape it somewhat, and take control of the Capital Wasteland, instead of a linear game with bad guys and good guys.
@Gwennerini
@Gwennerini 4 года назад
@@TKsMantis It would make sense for the highest concentration of Enclave to be on the oil rig, but, there would probably be several smaller pockets spread around the U.S. They probably could have regrouped after the fall of the oil rig.

And wanderer edition which let me tweak the game in such way that i turned fallout 3 in a harsh survival game with minimal loot, and very slow leveling. I feel like assuming that the Enclave died almost completely with the oil rig explosion is not correct. If I recall correctly there was a map in the oil rig, unlabeled however, that showed points all around America. I feel that it wouldn't be too far a leap in logic to say that it was a list of Enclave bases. Perhaps the oil rig was the Enclave's main base, but it would be dumb to assume that the Enclave only had the one base. I feel like it is completely possible for the Enclave to show up in other locations in America, perhaps smaller than in Fallout 2, but still possible. Furthermore, the beginning and ending of your version of the story is literally one for one Fallout 1's story, not so much an homage. When you are talking about the problem with Supermutants, the Enclave, and the BoS appearing everywhere giving the player a feeling that these things are just everywhere, that would be the same feeling that the player would get from this story. They would start asking why every vault that the player comes from has water issues, and if every other vault had water issues. While it is good to pay homage to a previous game, that shouldn't take the form of copying multiple main story points one for one

I think the major changes are pretty obvious. (Much of which you already said but these are often the things I thought they could change as well as reiterate some of the changes you suggested.) • Set the game a sooner after the bombs fell instead of 200, somewhere in the 50-80 range (so they can keep the post apocalyptic feel they wanted without making it feel like there is zero progress). • Swap out the Brotherhood of Steel and Enclave. They can still keep the basic template of these factions just change the names and the how as to they get their technology. • Take out Harold. You can replace him with a similar character but overall Harold should not be in the CW. • I wouldn't even make the Vault have a problem for the reason the Wanderer has to leave. Make it a diplomacy mission and put someone like Moira in the vault instead. She's the one sending you out to look at this things to make a "Wasteland Survival Guide" for the Vault Dwellers. The main goal of the vault being to interact with the people and possibly start their version of a Vault city with the Lone Wanderer acting as their ambassador for whatever reason. (Maybe he/she was chosen at random or they are chosen through the goat.) • The Vault itself would be a lot more RPG friendly with the player making their own bonds in the vault through a number of characters that would want certain things. Make the Tunnel Snakes an actual rogue competent faction in the Vault that wants to take over. Over the course of the game you shape who is the Vault's leaders where to focus their energy, establish trading, farming, etc. Essentially taking vault education to the wasteland to those who have been struggling or you completely ignore the vault and a civilization never really gets off the ground which results in them either scattering or locking themselves back inside. Other vaults would also be places to find research for your vault to take an interest in and maybe move some of the technology over depending on the shape of the current vaults and how you deal with them, some as opposed to current Fallout 3 may actually be salvageable before the events that essentially destroyed them transpire. I also disagree with the whole kicking out the LW at the end, way too samey to the original. • Increase the roles of existing created factions like the Talon Company, Slavers, Raiders, Reilly's Rangers, Megaton, Rivet City, Tenpenny Towers (yes make it a larger community and probably within the city itself), Republic of Dave, Treeminders, Regulators (change their name to be their own thing), Littlehorn & Associates, etc. Basically expand on the created content and make it fit into Fallout rather than just reusing the same factions on the opposite end of the country. Hell expand on Mechanist and Antagoniser without making them into joke supervillains, make them actual scientists who can be spoken too and reasoned with on a higher level to use said research to benefit the wasteland. Hell the use of Ants both as a resource to eat given their high birthrate and probable use as as potential pack mules in trading routes could be extremely useful. Also sets up the possibility to include the scientist who is working to make them more defensible as weapons and thus the fire breath is created. (Which will cause problems) • Outside of that creation of unique mutations through other means would be the enemies in the area probably as the result of some of the vaults or Commenwealth Scientists that are pouring into the Capital Wasteland. Maybe even make reference to some of the DLC by having new mutations of the trogs leaving the Pitt or have some of the Point Lookout residence trying to leave the island. • I agree Project Purity can remain as the main conflict although to a lesser extent then just making the entirety of the water in the area safe and make that more of a Wasteland problem instead of specifically a Vault problem as well. As making it a Vault problem completely sways the choice of the player into helping getting it started which I think makes it to much like Fallout 3 which sort of railroads the player into making certain choices. You can I either help Faction A or B but there should always be an option C of I don't want to get involved in that which could result in the project being lost completely. • Chinese remnants also being a major thing. There are multiple places in the Capital Wasteland where the Chinese have clearly setup locations either as ghouls or during their missions. Have actual Chinese remnants play apart in the story instead of just throwing in references to them. Some as actual Ghouls and some as descendants of spies who have integrated themselves into the civilizations. This would be extremely fun to playoff on how these characters would be acting now that they are essentially cutoff from China and doing their own thing. Are they still trying to cause havoc in the Wastelands or have some moved on and are simply trying to find a way to contact their homeland or hell start something new here altogether. Overall I think Bethesda does a decent job at providing a base for things, but they never seem to give their creations the depth they deserve to have in a Fallout game. Even if your evil bad guys are evil bad guys they should still have logical reasons as to why they act the way they do and more often they don't in a Bethesda game.

Instead of the Brotherhood of Steel, what about a different faction that was made from remnants of the USA Military that didn’t join Maxson and instead are like how Lyon’s BoS is in Fallout 3. Helping Civilians and even accepting volunteers to join but remain in Leather and Combat Armor until they prove themselves worthy of Power Armor. Then if the two crosses paths you have the isolationist BoS fighting against a similar faction but they have vastly more soldiers and more people are willing to support them over letting the BoS take all weapons and armor technology for themselves.

I think the Enclave should have been a small faction, like a very small high-tech group who abandoned their previous goals and stayed in their base at Raven Rock. They could help in Project Purity alongside the science team but remain mostly isolated. It would be interesting if the final chapter involved a sort-of war between Talon Company, Reilly's Rangers and the ghouls and you could choose which group to side with, giving you more endings and possibly, if you fight for the ghouls you as the player character could become a ghoul. If I had made Bethesda's Fallout 3, I would have done it like this: Use Washington DC as the main location, and instead of Brotherhood and Enclave fighting I would have several factions at war with each other over control of the area with the player deciding what faction to go with at the start of the game. I might have a raider type of faction that just likes murdering people, a militant type faction like the Gunners or Reilly's Rangers, a religious type faction such as the Children of Atom and maybe a mutant type faction but without the FEV plot thread being present. With you as the player, you would have the ability to choose how you would end or continue this conflict like using democracy to persuade some of the factions to work together, inciting a civil war within those factions by using information you've collected through exploration, or maybe just outright violence by killing everyone. I would also keep Project purity as a key location, but also introduce other locations like a steel factory or weapons depot each of which are held by different factions which you have the option to change who controls what through choice. I would also have some side quests which pay homage to both the original games and the canceled Van Buren, but without it feeling like blatant copy/paste fan service.

I liked how they did "ideologies" in Old World Blues mod for Hearts of Iron 4. I think they had People Elites Autocracy and Intellectuals (dunno where they fall). Actually very good and extensive total conversion for its supposed alpha status... Anyway. The interesting way to do it might be a democracy versus autocracy/oligarchy AND society serving individual versus individual serving society. Not necessarily a rigid scheme, like karma or alignmemt (the varying levels of reputation, like in Pillars of Eternity, New Vegas and Tyranny are generally more cohesive, than alignments). Mostly to connect the world with some recurring themes behind serious quests about conflicts. What I think Fallout 3 could've tapped more were conflicts *within* a society, with how the things transpired in Vault 101. In Fallout 2 you can see the injustice, but aren't there to fix it. You venture in tk the wastes and connect the various communities. Either as an ambassador, courier, mercenary or whatever a complete stranger can be good for.

Written as I watch: With the intro, we could here people talking with each other about how the air/water/food sucks with the relevant people or that they keep getting blackouts. We already have something like that at the 10th birthday but that's the only one I can remember. With Reilly's Rangers, they could have a system where you still help them map out DC and finding certain locations could open up quests to getthem better gear or more allies. Basically the Minutemen but better and less repetitive since there would be a limit to how powerful they can get before the end game. And tying into the actual game it could be like the battle for helios one where RR have better equipment but TC have more people thanks to the Institute's backing. On a side note it would have been cool if most* Deathclaw encounters/locations were replaced with Yao Guai who could be an East Coast equivalent. *However I wouldn't be against an easter egg encounter really late in the game or a really tough area where there's the remains of one or something like that.

I would say that it fits the "small emergency getting fixed leading to the discovery of a larger threat" pattern of the other games. As an example of the pattern, in Fallout 1 the need to find the water chip leads to the discovery of the real threat, The Master and his super mutants.
@Mikov101
@Mikov101 4 года назад
@@MrJHM007 It does somewhat but not entirely. The Master in Fallout 1 and The Enclave in Fallout 2 provides a direct threat to not only the wasteland as a whole which the player would've been interacting with, but the objective of the player too. The player's goal in the first two Fallouts is to save their community and that is impossible if the bigger threat isn't stopped. Likewise the main quest of Fallout 3 sees the player abandon their home and instead focus on the search for their Dad and later finishing his work. The problem is that the Enclave in Fallout 3 wants the same thing as the player, to have clean water for the wasteland. While President Eden wants to cleanse the population of the wasteland, his second in command Colonel Autumn is completely stopping that, and seems to do so effectively. The Enclave like the Brotherhood wants to put their flag on the purifier and use it build a new government in the Wasteland, not kill everyone. This why the purifier plot in Fallout 3 is so weak, the goal of the player is solved no matter who wins, and the wasteland is safe no matter who wins
@ryuzakikun96
@ryuzakikun96 4 года назад
If they are going to keep project purity as a plot point, they should have at least made the wasteland seem desperate for water. Everyone from a major settlement seems to be doing alright without this water purifier in Fallout 3, convince the player of this by showing people fighting for water. And no, the random dudes sitting on the ground and the occasional random encounter with people fighting over water is not enough.

I'd love if in this alternate Fallout 3, the Regulators weren't a "group" or "faction" perse, but functioned more like how the Samurai in feudal Japan, you would see them in citys (maybe only in the seedy part of town) or in settlements, and it would be explained to the player by an npc or just apparent through gameplay that the Regulators act as Hired Guns to protect towns and caravans, and sometimes bounty work(and to keep the lore, they only accept bounties against true evil doers) you could become a Regulator by either talking to a named npc to eventually get your own set of Regulator gear maybe through a quest line or buying your way in, or just kill one and since they're not as organized but more of just Hired Gunes, you could successfully pose as one by taking the gear off a killed Regulator. I feel the idea of the Regulators almost devolving into just remnants is sort of a "bleak-poetic" ending we normally see in the fallout lore. And it would tie in to the Samurai historical meaning behind these new Regulators.

Reily Rangers and Talon on war at each other because of the conflict that happens at the BoS base, the two stumbles each other while lookin for blueprints at the remnants of the brotherhood. And give the Talons a reason as of why they would accept any job, like for example, the group live in a slum and are desperate for supplies to keep them alive, and thus they would take any job that have caps in them. Tenpenny being the greedy man that he is, is trying to take over the whole region, you can either help him or destroy him, but he’s faction is also currently in war with the Ghouls that have crated a pretty big settlement somewhere down at an old underground train stations. Tenpenny hates them ghouls because he thinks that their settlement is the source of feral ghouls. And the ghouls made their settlement down there because it’s harder for the Brotherhood to find them back when the brotherhood are still around. But when they disappeared the ghouls already made a thriving settlement down there that made them reluctant to leave it. Paradise falls, a very big settlement that relies heavily on the slaves that they capture, the slaver would have a similar personality to the legions from fnv, you also would often see those slaver in action, and you have the option to join the slaver group. Republic of Dave, give Dave a whole new background story and give him a leader character this time. Republic of Dave, settlement established by an escaped slaves, started it’s establishment with Dave and slaves that Dave had rescued from those slaver, he have something against paradise falls, maybe PF enslave Dave daughter and when he tried to save her, she’s already dead because of the constant whippin and rapin that happens to her. Make Megaton bigger, and being that Megaton had been there for a long time, they should really upgrade the infrastructure, replace those scrap metals houses with proper stones houses, and btw Megaton in trouble with the Children’s of Atoms, they’ve become radical, and are trying to detonate the bomb because they think it will give them an immense blessing, but the Megaton police faction wont let it happen. You have the option to be a radical and help TCOA or you can help the Police force of Megaton to stop the TCOA. That’s it from me, what do you guys think?

I think a more interesting idea is for the antagonists Talon and Littlefinger to be working for Tenpenny. Inspired by the stories of the Enclave, Tenpenny would be trying to install himself as the new president of the United States, using Talon company to enforce his will. He wants project purity as his right-hand Mr. Burke assures him that it would be a sure-fire way to control the people by holding the water supply hostage. Speaking of Burke, he will be a constant threat to the good aligned player, setting up traps, hiring assassins and even taking over as president should the player kill Tenpenny. Think a combination of Cornel Autumes and Vulpes Inculta.

I think the best setting for that would be Colorado, since that is the actual fallback location for the US government in the event of a nuclear war. You'd have Cheyenne mountain as the top tier hardened military base, as well as the whole complex underneath the Denver airport. It's a whole new biome for FO, and still close enough to the southwest that some spillover wouldn't be insane. Wyoming isn't worth trying to nuke because no one lives there, so that could be a huge source of food, to the west you've got the high desert of Utah which, let's be honest, already looks like it's been nuked, then the sandy deserts of New Mexico to the south. You could even center a conflict between the NCR pushing east and the Enclave not recognizing their sovereignty. The timeline fits for after the events of FO2. I'd keep the brotherhood out of it as just a West coast thing.

Finally a chance to compile my thoughts about Fallout 3, sorry for the extra long comment, I'm just too excited 😂 Anyway I agree to most of the Mantis' take on Fallout 3, but I feel I have to add my own: Main quest: > Growing up in the vault > There's propaganda/doctrine that outside is dangerous and people outside are hostile > Vault 101 vault entrance will be opened but can't be closed because it's controlled by the Vault-Tec, can't be closed from the vault itself. > As the door opens, sizable amounts of giant rats will go in and attack everybody in sight, making chaos inside the vault, seems like giant rats are trying to live on the cave outsside the doors > Being xenophobic and horrified by the giant rats attack, the overseer send someone to Vault-Tec HQ to at least try to make the door could be shut close again, they will send not one, but three vault dwellers to get to the Vault-Tec HQ (the PC and two companions) > Outside, Springvale will be much more populated with Raiders, the school still their basecamp, but outside, there's raiders waiting to ambush caravans or anyone who dare to cross the town > I agree with Mantis, the major faction would be Reily's Rangers, Talon Company, I would add a US army descendants as a faction that previously served in Adams AFB pre-war, now resides in the Raven Rock and building some watchtowers and fences outside > The US army descendants would be friendly, caravans set up routes there, but nobody outside the descendants can get out alive > The descendants occupies strategic, mostly military locations like Wheaton Armory and National Guard Depot > The three -musketeers- vault dwellers didn't know anything about the location of the Vault-Tec HQ, even their overseer didn't know a thing. > Xenophobia will get the better of one or two of these vault dwellers (not the PC of course), making them tend to be hostile to anyone, but not really shoot first, ask questions later kind of people, they just extremely rude and will attack if really bothered. > The complexities of one or two of these vault dwellers will be one of the PC's challenge, they could be died in quest, left the PC, even hostile to PC > As the time goes by, they will acquire one and another info about Vault-Tec HQ's location, but the other one or two vault dweller's hostility to the "outsiders" would be a difficult challenge. > Vault dwellers will found a squad of Reily's Rangers and the Talon Company fighting in some location, none of them will shoot the vault dwellers on sight if approached. > Depending on who the vault dwellers approach in battle, they will gain information on Vault-Tec HQ's location, gain enough good rep with them will gain the vault dwellers some kind of help in form of wealth or manpower to get them to Vault-Tec HQ (but considering Reily's Rangers and Talon Company were enemies, gain enough good rep with one will gain enough bad rep to the other) > Way to Vault-Tec HQ would be much more compliicated than the original > Inside the metro to Vault-Tec HQ, vault dwellers will found US army descendants walking towards the location, the vault dwellers would be asked where they want to go. If the vault dwellers give them the right answer (not necessarily telling the truth), then the walking descendants will left the vault dwellers alone. Wrong answer, they will attack. > Arriving at Vault-Tec HQ, the place was already occupied by the US army descendants, and sharing info with outsiders ain't their thing, so the vault dwellers either earns their trust, having a very high speech (with some percentage to success, FO3 style) or have a bloodbath already. Be aware while they're not the type to be patrolling the wastes, they will find and murder them if necessary > After somehow the vault dwellers can get the doors controllable from the vault again, they will go back into the vault. > Depending on their reputation with other factions, how much vault dweller left from the vault, how the PC relationship with the overseer prior to their journey to the wasteland. The vault could be deserted, empty with everyone's dead, or many still alive and well. > If it's deserted, there's a quest to locate the remaining vault dwellers > If most of the inhabitants are dead and the PC still have one or two of their companion, some of them will be horrified and could commit suicide, being hostile to the others, or simply have a mental breakdown > If most of them still alive and well, the three vault dwellers would met the overseer only, and only to be casted out as they will consider the three of them "impure" and could give many of the remaining vault dwellers a reason to go out, which is a homage to the original Fallout. > If most of the inhabitants are dead or if most of the inhabitants are alive, the three vault dwellers would have a final questline, to find themselves a place to be called "home". Outside the main quest: > Instead of Super Mutants, the DC will be infested with ghouls (feral/non-feral) and raiders. > There will be more ghoul towns/settlements than ever in DC area. > Caravans go there to make trade routes (they will cross the metro too). That's where the raiders came in. > Raiders will be split in gangs like in NV > Reily's Rangers will constantly fighting ghouls and raiders > The Citadel would be a rubble like before BoS came, it's a highly contested location between US army descendants and Talon Company. > For the Talon Company, it will reassure themselves as the "ruler" of capital wasteland if they set up base there, and going from some other merc company to a big one to cater various "needs" in the wasateland. > For the US army descendants, setting up base in the Citadel would gain them access to imporant info of the US, as one of their primary goals is to -Make America Great Again- rebuiild the USA, kinda like the Enclave, but with some added morality. > Reily's Rangers' main intention is mainly to cater to various jobs that ain't immoral, and outside the job, they just want to make the wasteland safer for everyone in it, by "lending a hand" to various settlements (with enough pay of course), but they're not hostile to others. > Slavers are included in a raider gang type faction and are mostly hostile to each other. That's about it for now, my brain kinda overheated.

If you want to make fallout 3 good you need to add a hero's journey to it. I think that is one of the key things that is missing between the first two fallout games and fallout 3. Your character has no real growth. Sure you get stats and you can upgrade your skills and all that but that's not character growth. When you beat fallout 3 as in you've already gone through all the content from the main game and the DLC your character is basically the same person that you started with. I think one of the other things too is the lack of pressure on the player that there's an imperative goal that needs to be accomplished. I think this is just the nature of Bethesda games in general. in the original fallout for example you had a certain amount of time to find the water chip. That put some pressure on the player to get it done. Bethesda doesn't know how to do this. Whether it be because the world's going to end by prophecy, a bunch of gates to proverbial hell open, or dragons are literally setting the world on fire, there's just nothing to push you through and make you feel immersed.

In my version of FO3,that would be 6 main factions,some kind of Water Merchant who would use the Capitol as their Main Building,overpricing the water cost for all people in the DC Area,And The Talon Mercs would be in a contract with the Water Merchants,Children of Atom would one of the main factions too.There was going to be Some National Guard "remnants"(Like the Desert Rangers from Wasteland) who would use the Citadel as their main base.Rilley Rangers was goint to be present too,they would have more firepower than the NG "remnants" but in less numbers. And the last main faction would be the Slavers from Paradise Falls.Dad could be saved if you get the GECK first and then save him.After you saved him with or without the GECK,You could choose the faction to have the Water Purifier control.The Good end consist in using the Rilley Rangers to guard the Jefferson Memorial and the NG"remnants" would patrol the DC area,this ending would make The Capital Wasteland a safer place+Free water for everyone or you could use only the NG or Rilley,obtaining similar results.The +/- Ending consists in using the Water Purifier in Favor of The Water Merchants and it would mean water for everyone but with High Prices.The Bad Ending would happen if you the Children of Atom to gain control of the Jefferson Memorial,they would me the water radiated and say it's the "Atom's Water",this would result in free water but the majority of people in the DC area would die.The Worst Ending happens only if you use The Slavers to have the purifier,the consequences would be:The Slavers eould use their power to enslave the majority of the people in the DC Area,giving the pure water only to the good slaves.

What if Dad stole the water chip specifically for use in Project Purity? Like, you're forced out of the Vault like in the real FO3, under the impression that you would retrieve the chip so you could go home to the Vault. But then you find out about Project Purity towards the end, which would allow you to take the chip and doom the project, or let him keep the chip and risk the Vault running out of water before Project Purity is activated. Maybe have water merchants somewhere as a reference to Fallout 1, with speech checks secretly causing the Vault to get shipments of irradiated water ; otherwise, you can save the Vault by paying full price for purified water.

How about a fallout game where you go through life in the vault, and rather than needing fix the water or something, A deadly disease epidemic has taken over the vault and is quickly killing its population. For whatever reason the player is the only one immune to the disease and must go outside the vault to look for help or a cure. After leaving the vault the player realizes that the disease has taken over much of the wasteland and many of the factions and cities in the game are struggling with the same disease as your vault. I think there can be a lot of interesting things to do with this such as people becoming distrustful of each other. Maybe there’s a city out there on quarantine that you must sneak into or out of. There could be a faction that goes around purifying the wasteland of anything diseased, there could be a cult of people immune that you can join, there are so many things you can do with a plague that goes throught the wastes. It could take place on either coast and you could see factions like the NCR or brotherhood become less powerful as they once were because of the plague. I think this shit would be dope

I like your idea, but I'd add a small thing as a fanservice, in a way; the Enclave having a small contingent awaiting orders in the Pentagon. The building still being mostly just robots and even large groups of feral army ghouls, but the entire building being treated like a massive dungeon for the most part. The player arriving and battling their way would find out that a large portion is emptied, and then find the Enclave's troop there - just chilling out for the most part, waiting for orders, and even give some side missions. Maybe reusing President Eden in a smaller role there; I can imagine his almost inane rambles about baseball echoing across the halls.

I like Fallout 3, especially the main story with Project purity. And the feeling when you come out of the vault and have to build your character and try to help others with your skills. But at the same time, the game feels like a tribute to the first games. All the unique factions and enemies have been included whether it makes sense or not. If you look at New Vegas, there is an explanation for why BoS and the Super Mutants are included. But still, they create a completely new faction (Legion) that is involved in the main story, and in this way you move the story forward.

Instead of Enclave and regular BoS, maybe there could be a completely different organisation, similar to BoS in that they originated from an abandoned USA division and have some Power Armour, airplanes, tanks, cars, APCs, robots, turrets and advanced weapons. Those would be mostly kept at home and painstakingly kept operational, for regular tasks combat armour would be used instead both because manpower is cheaper than antique weapons and because it's better if advanced weapons don't fall in the hands of their enemies. The advanced stuff is for wars and base defence. In Fallout: Tactics there was a lost chapter of BoS that was basically forced to recruit tribals and use about the same equipment as everyone else. The Desert Rangers from The Wasteland game are also similar to this. These "not Enclave and not boS" could even be the final boss if they expanded aggressively. I like the idea of the main quest being a huge fetch quest. Basically the Vault is still in lockdown, like BoS in FNV, but the equipment is getting old and it could use a truckload of replacement parts. The overseer also listened to the radio and knows there is a civilisation out there and gives the player a basic rundown and probable locations of settlements. The rest of the game is basically evading monsters, collecting parts and diplomacy with various factions.

The thing id like to see send the pc out of the vault would be contaminated water from megaton. You could just blow it up, but that would actually make the problem worse and kill your vault as a consequence if you don’t find a way to make project purity work. I think you should be able to play after the finale but as an homage and in classic Bethesda style it would be a DLC behind a small pay wall something like 5 dollars and whatever you do after the ending would not be considered cannon or even have to be acknowledged as happening in the next fallout as what’s cannon is dependent on which ending is chosen and who’s too say you picked the right one

What would make a good fallout 3. You grew up in a vault, the vaults water chip is broken, you find a group of mutant hybrids is terrorizing the wasteland, A group called the enclave is fighting them. In the end you must choose to supply the vault with water, contaminate the water and mutant everyone, help the enclave supply water to the waste land but only humans or supply water to everyone in the waste land at the cost of the vault. The enclave would be a morally grey faction and you could justify them being there as they flied the brother hood of steel.

There is so much evidence of post war activity by the government and local councils, like the radiation cleanup and warning signs around where bombs hit, the white house, the Super Mutant vault. Here's my idea Game would still take place in dc but 60-80 years after the war instead of 200 years. The plot would still be about water. No BOS, no Enclave, No super mutants. Perhaps some mention of the fev in is some secret military base we can discover might be possible. When dad asks you "what kind of person would you like to be" that would open up the traits menu. For the Vault intro, you would start with the goat test, pick your special and tag skills then skip to the escape sequence where you would have the option to talk down officer kendall and have the lockpicking and hacking to the overseers office be easy rather than very easy. Talon company would be more like the gun runners but in the east coast. This would explain how everyone gets their guns. The Reilly's rangers perhaps could be a competitor of talon company that is less evil, more ethical and maybe lower quality. Talon company might give us tasks to kill some reilly rangers members to protect business interests. The children of atom would be more developed rather than a joke faction. Their worship of radiation will in direct opposition to your fathers project. Maybe it could also be a faction of ghouls who view radiation as the path to immortality and therefore the master race since ghouls are immortal and being a ghoul in the wasteland could have a special status. Humans could regularly become kidnapped and forced to breed to make more ghouls. Perhaps some humans can take it upon themselves to be "baptized" into this ghoul religion Paradise falls would be a much more important entity in the region. It buys and sells slaves to perhaps the talon company, farms in the wasteland or to just some people in general. Perhaps there might be experimentation of some sorts to "purify" slaves to charge premium. Paradise falls can also be a mining company selling their resources to the talon company for gun manufacturing or it could supply slaves to a mining company which provides resources to the talon company. There is potential for questions like if you destroy paradise falls, you would free slaves but you would also deprive the world of expensive and important resources making their demise not so black and white like in the actual fallout 3. These rich businesses would also have very clean and developed looking facilities and destroying evil would mean undeveloping the wasteland more and more so that raises the question about the progression and rebuilding of the wasteland Megaton firstly would be settled in a proper defensible location rather than a fucking bomb. Let's rename it to something like the hill. The hill i would say should be an important medical location in the wasteland. A town full of healers. There could be some story about the talon company buying and controlling this town for their own evil desires. Obviously there would have to be food sources for every town like a pen of brahmin and crops. Tenpenny tower should more development of how the people there are rich. Take michael hawthorne for example. What's the explanation of his wealth other than the fact that the developers needed rich people? Perhaps these residents could be business owners or employees of these big businesses i mentioned. I would say that the sequel of this game would be how these entities get unified into one nation or faction.

Why not a mix of both Fallout 1 and 3? A sort of 10,000 BC thing, where your father went to try and solve the problem, and when he doesn't return after the allotted time, you go after him to find him and solve the problem. Or maybe your father was the Vault Overseer. A coup forces him out. His replacement is running things into the ground, and you need to go get your father to come back and stop the new leader from ruining things. Also, Overseer, at the end of the game, if you have bad Karma, murdered, robbed, and all around ruined countless people's lives in the Wasteland, he banishes you, but if you have good Karma, he steps down and you become Overseer? If he's your father that would make him banishing or you succeeding him all the more emotional.

I have an idea for Fallout 5 that, whilst using F4/76 as a basis mostly game engine wise, will mostly be a follow up of both New Vegas and Fallout Tactics. The game takes place in both North and South Dakota, with you starting in North Dakota and South Dakota being extremely dangerous especially around Mt. Rushmore. The primary conflict is between Ceasar's Legion and the community of Bismarck. Following some time after New Vegas, Ceasar does eventually die but it's never definitively stated how he dies in game, there are rumors going about, etc. and Lenaus becomes the new Ceasar and an idea I like is that Lenaus is now the Legion's "immortal avatar of Mars" because he's been ruling the Legion so long since Ceasar's death, but the most logical explanation would be that the original Lenaus is long dead and every new Ceasar just puts his helmet on and keep his legend of being the Avatar of Mars ongoing to prevent the Legion from fracturing again like it briefly did after Ceasar died and original Lenaus had to reunite it. Having been pushed back by the NCR since the events of New Vegas, they are consolidating their territory westward, and the community of Bismarck, which in universe is a walled city situated across a canyon that formed from the eroded and dried up river that flows between the two states, guarding the only bridge between the eastern and western halves of Dakota. Bismarck is holding out since the they are essentially chokepointing the Legion but also because they have support from a BOS group that fragmented from the Fallout Tactics BOS. See, South Dakota appears partially in Tactics and the lore is that this BOS group was sent north and ended up being cut off after reaching North Dakota by automated defenses around Mt. Rushmore that activated shortly after they began scouting around it, and now their practically forced into helping Bismarck. The BOS is minor faction in this game, but more on the level of say a typical Elder Scrolls fighters guild. I'm skimming over a lot, but after the Legion is driven out or the Legion takes Bismarck, the activity around Mt. Rushmore starts escalating and its revealed that within the Monument was a giant Enclave base that was monitoring the local conflict - the Mt. Rushmore base being inspired by Red Alert 3. So the primary factions in this game are the Legion, the community of Bismarck, and the Enclave, with minor factions related or unrelated to them are the BOS, Raider gangs including maybe the Great Khans (it was said they traveled to the Great Lakes which Dakota is next to), Institute Remnants, a variety of Tribal communities the Legion wants to annex, etc. Before the game starts during character creation, you can also choose a class/origin (Caravener, Mercenary, Tribal, Legion Spy, BOS/Enclave Scout, Vault Dweller, etc.) which will actually pre-determin your standing with the factions in the game - with Vault Dweller being the neutral/"no one knows me" vanilla option. So for example if you go to the Legion, some origin affiliations will cause them to attack you on sight, others will make them indifferent to you but you will need to prove yourself to them before they accept you, whilst Legion Spy will have them saluting and welcoming you with open arms. This would also affect a lot of dialogue, which should be like New Vegas dialogue. Also, besides human, you can choose to be a "Human", a Ghoul, or a Gen 2 or Gen 3 Synth, with each choice having different gameplay mechanics to them and will effect relations and communication in the game. Ghouls for example get healed by Radiation but can still "have their brains rot" by it, so you'll still need to manage it. Gen 2 Synths are immune to radiation (and illnesses/hunger/fatigue in Survival mode) completely, but a lot of factions would be distrustful of you. Gen 3 Synth is like a combination of Human and Gen 2 Synth; resistant to radiation but not immune to it since Gen 3 Synths are more Clones than robots, and will have the added layer of choosing to keep your identity hidden or not in the playthrough. The Synth playthroughs will have side quests related to the Institute Remnants eventually - the Gen 2 will receive a signal from them and you will want to investigate them, whilst the Gen 3 will eventually start randomly waking up in different areas across the map after sleeping, and will have a 10% chance of having killed someone without knowing about it, until you learn it's the Institute Remnants giving you remote orders and you deal with them.

Okay, I don't like the rehash of "Oh no, the vault is in trouble and YOU are the only one who can save us." I quite like the idea of leaving the vault to track down Dad. So how about mixing the two concepts? Dad leaves with instructions from the Overseer to find whatever McGuffin needs replacing, but he goes missing and never makes contact with the vault after the due date. In desperation, the Overseer sends you out after him to find out what has happened to Dad, just so happening to get you caught up in the middle of a DC civil war between the remnants of the Master's army and the DC wastelanders. (And there's our reason for Vault 87, and our connection to characters and locations like Three Dog and central DC). Looks like Dad was sent off to Vault-Tec HQ since it was the only place with surviving records of how to obtain McGuffin. Along the way you encounter a besieged radio station, whose defenders offer you information in exchange for helping them fix their broadcast relay. You get sent into DC, fix the relay, and return with the promise of that info. Off you go back into DC, this time headed for Vault-Tec HQ. You get there only to find it being combed by Talon Company Mercs, and kinda-sorta-accidentally rescue another mercenary crew along the way (Reilly's Rangers) who pledge to help you find Dad, as long as you commit to the Good Fight and take it to the muties. Point is, the original game has enough material to work with and develop from without needing to recycle factions like the Enclave or Brotherhood. Making the Super Mutants a more serious threat than they were originally eliminates the need for most of FO2's callbacks.

I say you would have a chance to join them but they wouldn't be a main story really, only possible allies to which ever faction you joined. Not going to lie, I would have probably just had the Institute treat Project Purity like they were with Warwick Homestead in Fallout 4. They want to experiment, to figure out better ways of water filtration. Of course Fallout 3's Washington DC is a lot rougher then Fallout 4's Boston and so they need the extra security talon company would provide their investment. You could still have a couple of coursers running around, but I think the whole escaped synth thing should be reserved to one or two quests and left at that. Dr Li would want to reclaim Project Purity for possibly either ego or perhaps for the betterment of human kind. The Institute might just be experimenting and altering the critical infrastructure, and not actually using it for its intended purpose. With this in mind it actually makes sense that Li would then be discovered by The Institute.

I had my own idea for a different antagonist faction in the game, but I haven't had time to really think of how to integrate them better into the plot. The basic idea would be that the People in Oasis are a Luddite Cult who feel that technology and Mankind's desire to dominate with their science rather than co-exist with Nature properly is what led to the destruction of the old world. Their Tree-God doesn't have to be Harold, could just be some Sentient Consciousness created by radiation or something. The leader would be someone who was powered up by exposure to the Tree (which is also a big energy source that really goes through the entire mountain) and has superhuman abilities. He says he was the survivor of a village that tried to used old tech they found but destroyed themselves with it. He survived, was attacked by some Raiders decades ago in the mountains but the Tree saved him and killed the Raiders. It "Spoke" to him and empowered him, says it told him it was time for Nature's rebirth and that the Wasteland will become a paradise again. So he gathered followers from escaped slaves and ruined villagers and built a religion of worshiping their Nature God. He's their Prophet and he's found ways of creating weaponry powered by the Tree as powerful as Laser Rifles and the like. They wants to keep technological development from resuming, especially stuff that needs gas or fuel because they thinks it's just killing Earth further. Big twist being that the Tree God just wanted to use its power to peacefully begin reseeding the land and never meant to kill anyone to do it or destroy their technology. It's just that the Prophet had latent telepathic powers that the Tree's energies accidentally awoke. He let his own hatred and resentment or tech and Human failure blind him and he's been subconsciously blocking the Tree's attempts to tell him to stop all this time. I haven't had time to think it out more than that.

The sheer size of the country allows for so many unique worlds, factions, adventures, stories. Hopefully we get to see this used more. It somewhat like what Star Trek did with Voyager. They could do their own episodic series with few ties to existing canon by just going to a whole new area.

Here's an idea: How about Vault 101 are the bad guys coming to steal Project Purity so they can resupply their vault? You'd have Reilly's Rangers helping the Followers of the Apocalypse to do Project Purity in the first place, Talon Company and the Institute coming to steal it because they want the G.E.C.K. component, and the Vault 101 people coming to take the whole thing because they've run out of water.
