If I had to start over, to the point I had never read a single book in the bible, this is the way I would tell my younger self to read and take in the Bible. I hope you enjoy, thanks so much for watching.

My younger self was a terrible sinner. It was only by His glorious grace that He finally grabbed me by my stiff neck shortly before my 40th birthday, and I came willingly and eagerly to Him. I am now 75 and nearly at the end of my time here on this earth. Looking back on my journey, there are many things I had to repent about, and still, to this day I need to constantly ask God's forgiveness. I look forward to the time when I will be reborn and my sin nature will be gone forever. Until then, may His perfect peace be with you all. ;)

Same here, just before my 40th birthday! I'm not far behind you in age either, being 69. I've been a mostly bed-bound cripple last 6 years, and wasn't much better prior. I was raised in the church, and considered myself a Christian, but I wasn't saved. I lived such a wild life from 21-39, and yet I was eager to tell others about God. I also had thought that my good deeds needed to outweigh my bad (thanks cartoons!) However, God is rich in mercy, and thru a 6 week Bible Study, I finally realized what a Sinner I was, and ONLY Jesus could pay the price for my sins! THANK YOU LORD ... I fell to my knees to repent and the tears just gushed out. I can never thank Him enough!!!

I'd recommend: 1. Read a children's version of the Bible. Like The Jesus Storybook Bible (Sally Lloyd-Jones) or The Biggest Story Bible Storybook (Kevin DeYoung). 2. Read a short book that traces the main theme of the Bible: the story of redemption. Such as The Serpent and the Serpent-Slayer (Andy Naselli), God's Big Picture (Vaughn Roberts), God Dwells Among Us (Mitchell Kim and Greg Beale), or From Eden to the New Jerusalem (T. Desmond Alexander). 3. Read the Bible in a good translation that you understand (e.g. the CSB). Read from two books at the same time. Perhaps a book in the Old Testament and a book in the New Testament. For example, Genesis and John since the apostle John intentionally wrote the Gospel according to John in part to expand on themes in Genesis. Another example is read Genesis in tandem with Ecclesiastes since as many biblical scholars have pointed out Ecclesiastes is in part a commentary on Genesis 3, the Fall, life in a fallen and cursed world.

The comparison with many threads forming a net is wonderful! There is no "rigt or wrong way", but I would also strongly recommend looking at the bigger picture. i.e. reading Luke and Acts in one pass i.e. reading the old und new testament alternately or at the same time ie. when you get in the new testament to a reference to a vers in Jeremiah, just to stop and read that passage with that verse in it What me really got flashed in this year was the reading system by Grant Horner (with a little tweak). It's a really tempting one, but it felt totally right.

I recommend the excellent Bible reading plan of Robert Murray M'Cheyne. It has readings from four different parts of the Bible every day, and will take you through the NT and Psalms twice per year, and the rest of the OT once per year. I also recommend D. A. Carson's devotional that follows the reading plan in parallel.

So helpful. Thank you from all my heart! I love the food analogy, because for me it is a perfect "daily living, almost everybody understands it" analogy. We all know how long it can take for some foods to be digested and too much of one food (especially at once) is not good. I struggled a lot with the psalms because I read too many at a time. Thanks for correcting me. God bless you.

I wish I could go back and do the Great Adventure Bible / Fr. Mike Schmitz's Bible in a Year podcast. The first time I ever experienced it was via the Daily Audio Bible podcast (before the pastor put it behind a paywall), which itself was cool, because it shifted between different translations, including ones that did a good job of maintaining the Hebrew emphases.

Something I recommend is searching for books for your age. For example, Conversations With God is such a beautiful book and it opens your eyes and helps you see from a different perspective and it answers so much questions that we have. There’s also different versions, I’m currently reading the teen version of the book and the author asked a bunch of teenagers what would you ask God. And so the book is basically answered questions that you as a teenager might have. And someone asking God these questions and answering. This book really opened my eyes a little about the goodness of God.

Amen brother! I started reading the bible from the beginning of the year and have “more or less” adopted the same reasoning. I started with Genesis and continued reading the story of Israel’s journey into the land promised to Abraham and his descendants. I “paused” after reading 1 Samuel and moved into The New Testament, starting with the books of John and James and I’m now reading through the book of Romans. What struck me was just how helpful this was in understanding the law and how this has been fulfilled in Christ. Totally amazing and such a blessing. I feel so uplifted and empowered. My goal is to continue to learn and encourage others and also to get baptised. Have a blessed day brother🙏

Great to find this and thank you for posting. I have read the Bible so many times now, I really draw a blank as to how to tell someone new how to read the Bible. I grew up as a kid in the church but I always hated reading and I mean reading anything. I made it through English Lit and HS just by reading portions of each chapter or other chapter in a novel. But after HS I met a guy in the military who loved reading and he got me reading some books. I found that I could enjoy reading if it was well-written and easy to read. Fast-forward a few years and I got out of the military and got back into church again. I decided I need to read the Bible and just trudge through it if I had to. I was familiar with most of the NT and just a bit of the OT so I decided to read from cover to cover. For me that seemed to work since I already had some basic understanding. I like how you describe what you would do now. Genesis 1-11 is definitely important to understand sin and the nature of man with relation to God. I do like John for the gospel but I would add Matthew also as it is the longest gospel and has more details. Then I think Romans and Hebrews would be good to follow up. Understanding Christ/Messiah is more difficult to grasp and what to read to explain that? So yeah, I'd follow that up with some of Moses works (maybe Deuteronomy which is sort of a summary of books 2 thru 4) then I'd jump to Psalm 119 which demonstrates the passion for Scripture. After that, I may send a new person to the book of Jeremiah which focuses on idolatries and seeking after the will of God and the importance of Obedience. I also like I & II Timothy and Titus which provides great examples of how Christian are supposed to behave in the assembly and in the world. Some people will say these letters are for church leaders but technically we are all leaders and called to be Ambassadors of Christ. So those are good for new Christians to read within the first year to help them start thinking about their behavior. We want to minimize bad behavior and work on improving good behavior. And these too are the Fruits of the Spirit found in Galations. JOB is a good book but very difficult reading. We get a lot of our understanding of who God is and our relationship with him from this book but it is one of the earliest of the books so it is very difficult reading. This should be last on any list just due to the literary difficulties.

I also absolutely recommend Heart Dive by Kanoe, I've been following her since she started in 2023 with her bible study videos. It was what clicked for me. I knew I wanted back into the Word but years after trauma I struggle with understanding on my own. I got rid of all of my streaming apps and got yt premium. I made it so that I really only consume Christian content and more fulfilling productive content like artists and podcasts. I utilize bible study videos like Heart Dive, Kaci Nicole, Magnified Faith; by just having them playing while I do things. Now I have finally become comfortable following along in my own Bible separately, taking ny time with the passage and use those kind of videos to help me understand.

this is not an argument against what you're saying or anything of the sort because I understand what you're saying. As a PK who grew up and around other PK's I'll share with you essentially what the Holy Spirit told me as I pondered the hopes and wishes of taking the scriptures more serious and diligently as a yout and how other PK's feel the same a came to similar experiences. "what your expressing is wisdom, wisdom that comes with grace, time and understanding. it's because of what you did then and the work you've put in to this point that you can look back and say you wish... in other words, you are describing exactly what you wish would be, is exactly what is. To say, if you could go back with the wisdom you've gained from experiences how would you change things to be in a different place than you are now? more so, how would you avoid getting to a point where you again wish you could go back? What's most wrong about this type of thinking is how selfish it is. You think only of how you wish you could go back for your sake but how about the way God used you then without you knowing it?" There's a lot more we discuss on that matter and he still helps me with those kind of desires or thoughts at times but trust brother, I read the entire bible by the time I was 12 an worked through it more times with my father until I was about 17-18. I've never, ever questioned the existence of Jesus or God or even the validity of the Bible. Which isn't a boast but honestly makes the fact that I still fell prey to the world by choice even worse for me personally. The Holy Spirit really has tried to get me to understand the being patient with myself and the work God does within me as my gardener and shepherd. I think as Christians we get really worked up on ourselves because of the conviction of the Holy Spirit (which in some degree is very good) to the point its crippling and damaging to the process and our walk. As a gym goer and trainer I equate a lot of my walk to fitness... yes, there should be a since of urgency to improve, to "grow" a level of "shame" for previous mishaps purely to learn from not to sit in, but the most of all importance to the fitness journey is commitment, a understanding of the life long commitment to be focus of being healthy internally and "externally"/outwardly and patience with understanding that mean its a marathon, not a sprint. As we grow, there will be seasons of growth(bulking) and seasons of loss(cutting) and in both situations a mixture of factors. Along the journey we will learn, adapt, mess up and learn even more, correcting misinterpretations and wrong information... but it's not about perfection...its about never giving up and knowing all God wants is your commitment and light to help those along the way. God bless us all, always and may we be a blessing onto him.

3:25 that's one of the most fascinating things about the bible to me. It is a history book, yeah, but its actual genres of content span a lot of different grenes. Some should just be read through to get the information, but others need a bit more time to be digested and appreciated for the art that they are. 5:42 Yeah. So the bible spans different genres, but its all talking about he same God, our creator. It all functions cohesively, like a machine. Cogs put together that make different components. The entire machine functions to help us understand life and who God is. Missing components cause the machine to fail its function.

i don't think you should read psalms randomly and try to get meaning from it. rather; it probably makes more sense to read the bible in chronological order; such that you can understand what psalms were written, by whom, and in what situation. reading psalms 51 after reading 2 samuel and understanding what david has done, hits a lot harder than when you read the psalm by itself. it becomes a part of reading the history; it's like reading history with an appendix of hand written notes from the main character.

I totally agree with your learning system. #1 John and Genesis. People should keep in mind that God did not say Adam was the first human being ever. After all, who was Cain afraid would kill him? -His mom and dad? Adam was the first of a type.

You should read it, start to finish, just like any other book on the planet. Chronologically. You can't fully understand ANYTHING in the new testament without having read the old testament. God provided all of the old testament for a reason! Jesus and the apostles and everyone in the first century ONLY had the old testament. Jesus referred to it constantly. Find yourself a chronological bible and read every page. Don't skip what you think may be unimportant or boring. Then read it over again every single year of your life. Each time God will make it new showing you new and deeper things that you previously weren't spiritually ready for.

That what I struggle with, I started with John. I always feel like I know Genesis just based on stories I have heard but I will start again.

The beginning of sin, the mystery of iniquity began in Eden, Genesis 4:8-15-24. Man didn't directly commit sin, but was led by a third party- the devil in the serpent, and was made to sin against God. In God's right, He killed a third party propitiation for their sins- the sinless Lamb. Thus God, to be Righteous and Just, must be the One to provide Himself a sacrificial Lamb, to atone for the sins which the third party- Adam, had committed, to be able to Righteously judge the other third party, the devil, satan, the dragon, to finally get punished. But there has to be opportunity on both sides to prove that God is Righteous and Just in His judgment, by giving man 1000 years to prove he can eventually hold his own and not succumb to peer or outside pressure, in order to be worthy of being redeemed, ransomed, regenerated, restored and reconciled, back to God- through Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5. Then, man- Cain deliberately killed his brother, Abel, but this sin couldn't readily be judged simply because there was no preceding law about being one's brother's keeper that was to have been broken. (Thus, the whole system was destroyed by the flood, and the laws started with that Genesis 9:5-6, until finally judged and finished on the cross John 19:30) And in verse 15, a precedent was laid down for the time it would take to judge sin, 70x7 or 490 years. That generation was wiped out by the flood, but the precept remained: sin shall be avenged seventy and seven fold. (Matthew 18:21-23). This was the standard by which Israel also judged, as they also had to spend 70 sabbath years ( or 70x7= 490 years), in exile, outside of the promised land. When it was the 69th week year Daniel prayed to God, and fasted to remind Him of the imminent due date of the return of God's people to their promised land; but the sin of the Amorite was not yet full, Genesis 15:16, also, Israel was still in rebellion towards God, and the land cannot sustain rebellion- it was Holy! So, the Messiah had to come and make a way for grace and justification, and righteousness of God to be imputed, so Israel can get back their monarchy, through the house of David, and back to the kingdom of God, by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, as the Son of God, and the Son of man -the promised Son of David, the king of Israel to order His Kingdom Isaiah 9:6; who would ascend His throne as God had promised him. Romans 1:3; Acts 2:30, and come to bring them back to God, Jeremiah 16:16a; Luke 19:10; Matthew 10:5. Instead, they rejected and killed Him. Thus, from then onwards, the way to God was opened to whosoever would come to Him by grace through the shedding of His blood, by grace through faith in His sacrificial death, burial and resurrection. They were given the adoption of sons and daughters into the kingdom, which hitherto, they were not permitted Ephesians 2:13; John 1:11-14, becoming heirs and joint heirs of God and the Abrahamic covenanted promises an blessing (Genesis 25:6- the representatives of his other children by Hagar and Keturah, the Kings of the East, could now access and partake of the blessing, and they showed their allegiance and faith, by worshipping Jesus Christ, as a Child!) Jesus Christ gave His life for all who would simply believe in Him as Lord and Savior, in order to keep them from the wrath of God that will be unleashed upon the Amorite, until the end. Isaiah 63:18; Daniel 8:13; Zechariah 12:3; Luke 21:24; Revelation 11:2. And eventually, they will be rescued at the second coming of Christ Luke 21:13; Zechariah 14. He finished the work of salvation of the soul of man John 19:30 and this continues the "acceptable year of the Lord" which began as He took the sealed book of Daniel, 12:4, from God, as the Lamb of God, who alone is Worthy, and opened the seals Revelation 5, and fulfilled the first of the three part of Isaiah 61:2, in Luke 4:16-21, and He SHUT it again. This will run through this dispensation of preaching of the gospel of grace, (which ended the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom, which ended with the stoning of Stephen) by faith in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and He will return to gather His saints from the world, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15; and present them faultless before the presence of God the Father, with exceeding joy, Jude 24; with victory over sin, devil, death, hell and eternal damnation in the lake of fire and brimstone Isaiah 66:24. The second dispensation is nearly upon us, at this time Isaiah 63:4, which will usher in the tribulation period when the 70th and last year will be ushered in to finish all transgressions! Daniel 9:24. ( As the Messiah has become the sacrifice for sin, and was dead, buried and rose again from the dead! His shed blood sprinkled on the heavenly mercy seat for propitiation for sins for all who would go to God by and through Him, simply by faith! Ephesians 2:8). Then, the Lord will return the second time, complete with His body, as a new Creature resting upon the Mount of Olives Zechariah 14, to make a way of escape for the remnants of Israel Matthew 24:31. Then the battle of armageddon will ensue, and it will end up in total obliteration of this earth. Isaiah 24; Joel chapters 2 and 3, Jeremiah chapters 1-11...; 1 Peter 3 etc. This is the fullness and end, and judgment of the sin of the Amorite! Matthew 18:21-22; Psalm 75:8; 73:3-17. Then the new heaven and earth will be created after the conclusion of the millennium- to mark the expiration date of sin and death, like it was back in Eden. Now man will live out the 1000 year curse of death Isaiah 65, (Genesis 5). Then history will repeat itself when everything reaches full circle- the serpent will be released once again, Revelation 20:1-6, to tempt man as he did with Adam and Eve, those who follow him will get totally judged and cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, together with hell, death, the antichrist, false prophets and all whose portion is with them Isaiah 66:24. Revelation chapters 19-22. God has perfected the end from the beginning. But as it is written-"My people are destroyed for lack of Knowledge " Hosea 4:6, so, "With all thine getting, get understanding " Proverbs 4:7; Luke 24:45. Be filled with and led by the Holy Spirit, and abide in the fold, John 10, until He returns as promised, to take up His purchased possession! John 14:26; Ephesians chapters 1-2! Then He will set up His kingdom! Isaiah 9:6! Be encouraged!

It's very hard to read the bible because it is the book of life, meaning it is alive, it is a living book. It is a two- way study. It studies you as you study it, and it shows you your heart. You cannot pick it up without either an ulterior agenda or you are really serious about learning more about its content. The moment you decide to even pick it up, your heart begins to race, you're uncomfortable before you make the final move to open the book. Isaiah 29:8, 11-13. If you're educated, you cannot approach it as such, or if you're illiterate, you cannot avoid it because of this. The book ministers to both the literate and the illiterate alike, by the power of the Holy Spirit, because the word becomes fluid, as it flows into their hearts. As long as you open the book, you cannot stop the flow. There's no barrier that can stop it from getting into the innermost core of your heart. Now, you can resist, but it will cut deep, but if you open your heart to it, it will flow gently, but still take care of obstacles along the path. The written word comes alive and becomes an interface with your heart. They begin a dialogue, and eventually you begin to get convicted as it touches on those sensitive issues you thought you had buried deeply into the recess of your mind and begins to chisel away. If you relax and gives it permission, it will root it all out, bleed it out and begins the reconstruction of all that hadn't aligned with the word. The pain is out of this world, but there's Balm in Gilead! You feel the cool touch of the loving hand that just turned your whole life upside down, inside out, and a piece that you can never describe at the same time, which then wraps you in the most beautiful love that you have never experienced. This will make you always go back to the word, for in it you now have what is called LIFE John 5:39. This life is from the presence of the Holy Spirit, to which you were connected as with an intravenous drip, on which your life depends. You feel alive, and nothing else matters, because His angels become like care givers, and take care of all your other stuff you may not be able to do, because you're connected! Then you learn to rest! By the time you finish the dose for the day, you're so energized you can take on an army, but you'll be led and directed by the Holy Spirit, so you don't mess up your still open sore, and not be a meddler in other people's affairs. Meaning, you only mind God's business as you're being led. The devil will always be at your heel, but as long as you remain connected, by the line- the Holy Spirit, you're already made more than a conqueror, through the power that runs inside of you. But you must study daily and at all times Proverbs 8, so you can get to know the God and Jesus Christ of the bible John 17:3, and His way, His will in all spiritual wisdom, knowledge, understanding, discernment, discretion, prudence, might and counsel. That is Life everlasting! No one likes this! On the other hand, if you resist, you will be condemned, and the connection will be cut off . The devil will have the opportunity to accuse you, first to yourself, and then before God, and will he will definitely be on the right, and you will not be able to overcome him, no matter what you do. He fights dirty. He will show you what you will be missing if you remained connected, and you will not be able to resist, the living waters that flow softly, for that from the well, which you use your own power to dig. He will get you so far away from the life you need before he deals you a good blow, and you may or not recover from it. Moreover, he does worse things to those who are even connected, but they're never alone. Therefore, both had to get to the end and then finally be redeemed, restored, or rejected and renounced. This is the main reason the bible is hard to study. You can only get what you put in to the study - as to time and effort, that's why not many spiritual people understand the bible Matthew 13:11; Deuteronomy 29:29. The Apostle Paul spent 14 years in Arabia, just going over all the material evidence he collected while following Jesus Christ, ro persecut Him, but they turned out to be the infallible proof he got to prove Who Jesus Christ really is- The Messiah, and effectively disseminated the information he gathered, by the enabling help if the Holy Spirit, through all his epistles to us all Romans 16:24; Colossians 1:26 etc. God had to find those that love and fear Him to be able to confide His secrets to them Psalm 25:14, otherwise, people who profess to know God will misuse and abuse His word and revealed will. The race is really not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong.

The little book is the written Bible. Revelation 10:9-11, the witness ate the book and from then onwards, God's word became "spoken" until the end, and took immediate effect. Whatever is spoken gets immediate manifestation. Revelation 11:5-6; Jeremiah 23:29-32; 20:9. Until the Holy Spirit, the 3rd person of the Godhead returned to take them up and out of the world, like He did with Believers in Christ. This was man's last involvement with the world, as angels took over to proclaim the victory of Christ and His kingdom, over the whole world before judgment began. Revelation 11:11-19. Satan got mad because he realized he had lost, despite his carefully laid plans against man, right from the beginning, so he declared war which got him completely defeated and cast down into the earth 12:1-12. He began to persecute the remnants of Israel, but failed as even the earth helped them to escape. 12:13-17. He then unleashed all his hidden weapons thereon. Chapter 13. God sent the remnants of Israel- the Pure Seed which Satan had failed to mix or defile- the 144,000, to perform the very commission for which Israel was separated right from the beginning Exodus 19:6, as the people of God. Chapter 14:1-5; Matthew 24:31; Zechariah 14; Isaiah 66:19-21. God then finally permits angels to proclaim the everlasting gospel, just in case some people may believe and save themselves by themselves, for the wrath of God will start immediately, and anyone found on earth at this time will experience what that means 14:6-20. (Shudder😱😰!) The angels who perform the word are spirits and fire Psalm 103:20. The book in the hand of the Lamb was the book of prophecy which was shut in Daniel 12:4. The Lamb took the book and opened the seals. Thus, Jesus Christ could fulfill the first of the 3 parts of Isaiah 61:2- "the acceptable year of the Lord Luke 4:17-20, which ends in the rapture of the Church- the members of the body of Jesus Christ; which ushers in the " the day of vengeance of our God ", and culminates in the millennium reign when God "comforts all that mourn ". Isaiah 6. The end of the Bible and everything written therein. The new heaven and the new earth starts shortly Revelation 20-22.
