Sincere thanks for these wonderful insights. Subscribed and will recommend to my current excellent physician because when I was initially diagnosed (30+ years ago) by another provider, there was nothing like this quality of information. Looking forward to in depth perspective re Keto and a careful explanation of modern insulin **analogs** (like Levemir) vs older formulas (like Walmart's Relion/Novo Nordisk) **human** insulin. Your efforts are much appreciated.

Thanks so much! I’m definitely planning a video comparing different insulins and will be getting into diets as well. Glad to have you along!

Thank you so much for your explanation about basal insulin which you described as keeping a low steady amount of insulin, I had stopped using basal insulin and tried to do everything with just fast acting insulin which doesn't work too bad it just requires 5 to 6 injections per day I'm going to try the basal insulin along with it again, thanks to you I understand it better. The one thing that I really do like better about insulin is it seems like it's a natural substance that the body needs all of the rest of the oral medications appear to me to be treating symptoms and I don't think there's an organ in your body needed to produce glipizide it just seems to me that insulin is a better way to go, if you're afraid of that little tiny needle get over it - feeling good is much more important than the tiny - mostly psychological pin prick that you have to go through occasionally. Another great thing about insulin it really has no side effects if done properly other than if you take too much you can go to low.

The long acting insulin is the only way I was able to get my blood sugars down, because I was at 300+ fasting blood sugar before I finally got enough long acting insulin. The fast acting insulin only lasts about 2 hours for me.

Hi, i have watched your videos lately and i fint them very creative and informative. I have had some changes with Blood suger for the past 2 months. The are also some symptoms like waking up at night from hunger. I am very confused and i just don understand. is it posible to get diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 17. Isn’t that a bit late?

I was having many symptoms of diabetics and went in for blood work. Just knowing diabetes was possible I bought a BG test kit. I was worried even about those needles. Then I found out I had LADA and I started insulin therapy and metformin by the suggestion of my doctor. I was worried about the needles and had a friend help at first. But you can get used to it and I find that the new pen needles are so small I almost never feel it. I also use a freestyle libre for constant monitoring! Along with a low carb diet and exercise, I keep my insulin levels low and feel lots of energy when I keep my blood glucose in line.

Thank you for the very engaging explanation. Kindly talk more about insulin pumps next time. Can a Type 2 use insulin pump? How does it work? How does it differ from the pens especially in terms of cost? Can we use insulin (pen) needles 2-3 times? Do they (stainless steel needles) really expire? Will look forward to your demos. More power!

Hi, I have some big plans for videos on insulin pumps including talking about how they work, demonstrating the differences between different brands, and getting the opinions of people who use them every day. Type 2 diabetics absolutely can use them, but you would usually have to be on at least 3 injections of insulin per day for your insurance to even consider it, since they can be quite expensive. Many people re-use insulin pens, but it's never advised because once they're used, they're no longer sterile and there's risk for infection. That's also the reason for the expiration date on pen needles - as they get older, the sealed paper covering over the needle cap starts to wear down and if the seal breaks, they're no longer sterile. But to be honest, this is rarely a problem; they'd have to get REALLY old for that to happen.

Insulin has helped me a lot in controlling my blood sugar. Though I gained a bit of weight, still I am able to maintain a good HBA1C. My question is: For example my dosage is only 10 units a day but I ate a piece of cake today, can I increase my dosage to 15 so that my blood sugar wont spike? Aside from hypoglycemia what are the other bad effects of insulin injections? I hope you talk more about insulin injections in your next videos. Thank you so much!

It kinda depends on what type of insulin you’re using; some insulin are long acting and don’t really cover for meal spikes. Fast acting insulins can be adjusted to meet higher carb-content foods but I would recommend checking with your healthcare provider before making any dose adjustments. I will DEFINITELY be making several videos on insulin. Apart from hypoglycemia and weight gain, insulin use can cause swelling and, occasionally, low potassium.

@@sugarhighchannel thank you so much. Is that swelling from insulin related to kidney function or it is not? I will wait for your next videos!

monet piedad Swelling form insulin is actually pretty rare, but when it does happen it’s usually a short term thing that is probably caused by effects of insulin on sodium excretion and increased ability of water to leak across capillaries. Long-lasting swelling in someone who has been on insulin for a while is probably from another cause.

Did my pancreas surgery that took the tail of my pancreas with an insulinoma basically destroy most of my insulin cells? I have MEN 1 and am probably facing another pancreas surgery because I have several tumors in my pancreas. I would prefer to avoid losing my stomach to ulcers caused by gastrinoma.

I was not informed by my diabetes nurse when diagnosed with LADA last year at all re carb counting vs insulin dosing. I was told to inject x units of FA or LA insulin and to titrate by 1 unit every 4 days if necessary. January 2020 I attended a t1 ED course and the 1st day I was taught to inject 1 unit FA for every 10g carbs. I also found out for me 1unit FA corrects 5mmol blood glucose due to experimenting with FA insulin (usually 1 unit for 3mmol BG to correct). So I’m disappointed that my primary diabetes nurse did not inform me of the nuances of insulin vs carb ingestion. It is not rocket science.

I'm glad you finally got that info! Carb counting is a great tool that's definitely worth the effort. We'll be discussing it in future videos on this channel!

@@sugarhighchannel Thankyou! My diabetes nurse told me she wanted me taken off the diabetes monitoring register here in the U.K. because I seemed to be handling my condition but the diabetes specialist GP refused thankfully and to be honest I have not engaged much with my nurse since. I don’t trust her. I have self financed freestyle libre since March 2020 and my estimated A1c has been 39-40 mmol so I’m happy with that.

Greetings.. Respected Dr. What is the significance of high fasting insulin in the blood of TD2 diabetics taking insulin besides one DPP4 tablet. Metformin is not tolerated. Diabetologist not in favour of Sulfonylurea after 10 years of use replacing by insulin. Thanks

For a type 2 who's pancreas still produces insulin, perhaps not enough, would starting basal insulin tell your pancreas to slow down creating the limited insulin it's creating? I had a Dr tell me taking insulin kills your pancreas. Is that true?
