This series was wonderful. Thank you. Seeing Cuba brought a tear to my eye. I was last there when I was four years old. That was 62 years ago. It looks very run down. The people are phenomenally resilient. Beautiful work.

I was in Havana in early October. Mr. Block did a great job demonstrating the warmth and photo geniality of the Cuban people. The street photography in old Havana is off the charts!

Hey Ira, just tripped over your series on Havana and Vinales. It just so happens I did the exact same 10 day photo shoot in both Havana and Vinales last April/2023 with the same characters at the tobacco farm. I got some great shots of the cigar smokin grandma and her grand daughter together. Also the street life in Havana. I'd love to see your final pics of the trip.

Good series. Thanks. I was in Havana in 2007 and saw the pink convertible parked in front of the Presidential Palace. I'm not really surprised that it's still running sixteen years later. The Cuban people were some of the nicest I've met anywhere.

When you were profiling the fisherman, Chi Chi @2:00 I started feeling butterflies in my stomach. It's like I was getting anxious to go out and shoot photos asap. I regularly shoot a senior aged man who has been carving and sculpting stone for over 50 years and I too like to show the hard worn hands that create what other people treasure.

Great Series Ira. I am planning a trip to Cuba and was curious if I would need permits to walk around as one man band with a video FX30 camera and a still camera as well?
@1iblock
@1iblock Год назад
No problem Tom, you can easily move around Cuba.
Год назад
A FX30 camera can cost $2198, the monthly wage in Cuba(2023) is 4000 pesos($18). If I were you, I would be more worried about people trying to steal your 10 years of average wage equivalent camera. Cuba can be a human circus where tourists can satisfy any morbid desire.

Hi Ira, Thoroughly enjoyed your Cuba shots, I was there a few years ago so it brought back fond memories. I noticed in your Metadata your flash exposure varied a lot, do you use Auto on camera flash as a fill in or please explain how you use flash
@1iblock
@1iblock Год назад
I did not use the flash at all. The metadata is just picking up the flash compensation that I have set on the camera. Good that you noticed.
@MikeT-yy3
@MikeT-yy3 Год назад
@@1iblock Hi Ira, I appreciate you do not use flash at all, can you explain if you never use flash, how would your camera flash compensation FEC settings differ between shots in similar Cuban images. Surely you would not change this setting if you are not using FEC, just curious.

Hello Ira Liking your videos on Cuba 🇨🇺 I am planning to visit the country sometime next year. I was thinking of joining a photography workshop (trawling through the internet they’re some workshops are very expensive) or shall I take the plunge and do it on my own. And meetup with a local photographer for a couple of days? I am not a professional photographer and I am a bit shy about approaching people to ask them if I can photograph them. I am interested in creating stories in my photography. Please advise 😊

@DaveMody

I see there's a flash comp value, does that mean you were using a flash in some of these, but dialed down in power?
@1iblock
@1iblock Год назад
Dave, i did not use flash at all during the series. The meta data is showing how the flash compensation is set up on the camera. And yes when i do use the flash I many times tweak it down as a fill light. Good catch !!
