I didn't even think about that. Varus has voice lines about the two affecting his thoughts. "Valmar and Kai urge redemption... Is it so beyond me?" Parhaps some form of Coexistence is possible, a blending of the being of Darkin and Human. DAMNIT I WANT HWEI TO HAVE A VOICE LINE ABOUT VARUS, he's also technically an Ionian champion.
the 2 ponts on ult voicelines are because at level 12 if there is a jhin on the opposite team a minigame starts where the first to kill the other with its ultimate wins a buff. if Hwei wins it says: Hwei made Jhin witness the depths of his visionary mind, earning 3.33% Magic penetration "Understand, Jhin. Understand pain, and peace, and art----like i do, now". And if Jhin wins: Jhin made Hwei into his virtuosic magnum opus, earning 4.444 Lethality. "Our fourth and final act draws to a close. The painter falls, and i arise the maestro of death".
@@nekoyin8040 I think 3 is kind of Hweis Number cause of his way to see the reality. So in a way it is the same as Jhins 4, but from another perspective. (kind of literaly)
12:22 is not "what Jhin is doing" Jhin is turning death into art, Hwei here is probably turning trauma/sorrow into art, using art as a coping mechanism is a common theme for him (and its very relatable)
And his 3 modes are 3 ways he processes the trauma. Lashing out with Destruction, sinking into Depression, or tapping into his temple training in Serenity.
Keeping things vague is fine, encouraging players to come up with theories is great for engagement - as long as Riot has an ACTUAL ANSWER to all these questions.
If they relate Jhin's madness to a demon i'm losing it. One of the things that makes him unique and interesting is that he is basically insane not yet another poor victim of a stronger power like many champions. Also it would undermine his story, he is such a menace and dangerously horrifying that people thought he was a demon (called him the "golden demon") and it took years for Kusho, Shen and Zed to figure out that all that suffering was in fact caused by a human. I refuse to believe his mental illness is caused by the influence of a demon.
He is pretty powerful for some random gun man tho. survives being chased by order of shadows and Camille... but obviously, that is more for story consistency. These aren't comic books with 100's of universes, where the joker gets put away only to show up the next issue. So if Jhin actually faced some consequences, they wouldn't be able to put him in other stuff. And you can't have that(so says the investors and marketing team)
Dude is a regular human and yet lays an elaborate trap for Camille and her kill squad, methodically kills her squad while she tries to catch him then escapes at the last moment.
@@Brakiros This isn't unheard of. Many media have similar characters that are just "regular" humans but achieve greatness, like Batman, Joker, Lalo from Better Call Saul, etc. This aspect isn't anything new.
I now have a little theory about Darkins through Hweis voiceline. Does the color of a Darkin indicate who is in control? Aatrox, Naafiri and Rhaast are red and in full control of their hosts since their hosts are basically dead. If Kayn wins the battle every bit of red is gone and he becomes blue. You might think this is because of the shadow magic .... but neither Zed nor Nocturne are blue. So maybe if the host of the Darkin wins the mental battle they get to use their powers and they become bluish. Lastly Varus is purple and in his case he is mainly in control of he body but neither Valmar nor Kai are dead and they can actually take control of the body for a short amount of time and "talk" to Varus.
Red is the colour of the darkins because of their blood magic. Kayn is most definitely blue because of his shadow magic. Varus is purple because he was never meant to be a darkin in the first place, purple was the colour of his corruption.
Considering Darkin are meant to be ascended, this would make sense. The character that comes to mind that sort of confirms this is Xerath. He's literally blue energy because his body couldn't contain all that power.
i'm suprised you didn't make a possible connection that at 14:15 he could be talking about the well that housed Varus as we don't know exactly when his story took place yet
In the varus music video the darkin was sealed in a "dark well", so he might be referencing how Ionians figured out how to make dark well prisons for entities, kinda how ashlash was sealed in water. That quote could be referencing that there was a demon sealed away in one of those wells and Hwei let it out and bonded with it (maybe on accident?)
Thinking about the 3 hands that catch Hwei in his trailer I realized that we do know about 3 demons that fit his 3 marks perfectly: The CC stance (e) reminds me of Fiddlesticks The support stance (w) reminds me of Ashlash the demon of joy of Who's power is also used by Nilah (the theme of the abilities being water also makes sense) And the damaging stance (q) remind me of Tybaulk the demon of rage (for those who don't know that's the demon inside Tibbers) the theme being fire also makes sense
My theory if they go with the demon creating this artistic murder inspiration is that it actually came from Jhin. Like the demon was actually impressed or inspired by Jhins madness and murderous and artistic capabilities that they began to almost do the same with Hwei. So instead of taking away from Jhins cool madness and personality and making it "well cos of demon" its the reverse. The Demon is because of Jhin.
I love the idea of Kayn, rather than the binary result of winning or losing, having to work with Rhaast - Lore wise and gameplay wise (More on that in a moment). Especially with Odyssey and HEARTSTEEL Kayn creating more of a friendship between the two, it could make for an interesting step forward for his story. Could be cool if he showed up in Project L and, rather than having some form of transformation or scaling mechanic like in League, he could stance switch between SA and Rhaast as they work in tandem.
Ik this was a month ago but the two of them are far from friends, here's a quote from a rioter: "Frenemies is a modern construct so I would not use that word. Imagine two malevolent forces in a car traveling to a destination where there is place for just one person. They don't like each other at all, but only one knows how to operate the car and the other knows the way and has the map in his head. They are studying each other along the way and when they arrive one will kill the other based on the knowledge they obtained while driving. They will never be friends. They must tolerate each other.”
That "underworld" line can mean so many things. It could be a Void rift, a portal to the World of Shadows, a demonic place that was sealed, some sort of undercity like Zaun (similar to how Sett carries out his illegal fights), or something completely new. It could also be a reference to Varus' old lore, where he submerged himself in a dark pool but it was never clarified what it was and how he got his powers. Maybe they are reusing this part of that old story in a very similar location, but with a better established purpose (probably a demonic location like the "7th circle" where Ashlesh was sealed).
the thing about emotions being most dangerous when silenced, I think makes sense in relation to the demons, especially if you think about Kin of The Stained Blade, where the demon masquerading as the old man fed on the repressed grief of Yasuo and got stronger as he tried to fight back
I just realized that in Hwei's teaser trailer, you could see 4 silhouettes of presumably his masters, which were all killed by Jhin. If those were all people Jhin killed that day, then the kill count would be 4. Glad to see that Riot is staying consistent with Jhin's 4 schtick.
Riot: Any story ideas for Hwei? Staff: How about we let the community do the work for us? Riot: Great Idea! Staff: We'll pick the more interesting theories to work with. 🎉😂🎉
love that guy. i mean his splash is ok but his voicelines and the way his artistic skills are represented in his skills, its beautiful. pair that with my favourite champ jhin and you got me hooked!
I'm honestly surprised there was not a unique interaction with the Blood Moon Jhin skin since in that skin Riot really expressed his artist side by turning his rifle into a paintbrush with blood as the ink.
imagine if shadow assassin kayn and darkin kayn combined, no more choosing in-between the two forms. or if varus has 3 heads, 6 arms, and multiple bows, or if naafiri turned into a demon dog human hybrid but in a corrupted vashtaya version. maybe that's why aatrox is finding a really good host, to have that best combined synchronization
I just wanted to point out, if you look at his E abilities, each one resembles a different demon. One is an eye like swains W, one is a mouth like Tahm eating someone, and one is a fear like fiddle's Q (or nocturnes E)
Pretty sure everyone already noticed, but I'll still point it out anyway because some might not catch it: Most of his interactions are directed towards fellow Apprentices of someone else. It's actually pretty cool. He's ever so slightly becoming a favorite of mine. 🤩
Demons usually feed on human emotions, so, If Hwei kinda "invokes" Demon powers everytime he uses his art, that must mean that Hwei's emotions are like super super strong. Hwei's emotions through art must be like a feast for Demons everytime 👀
I think I remember hearing the devs were actually going to do that but couldn’t because some higher up said no because “voice lines relating to items are no longer allowed in case the item gets removed”
i don't really think that jhin murdered everyone, it really sounds like jhin went to this art "school" (maybe to research some kind of art or technique, or to find someone, idk), and then jhin started teaching and guiding hwei so that hwei could see the world as he kinda sees (maybe jhin saw the potential inside hwei and wanted to show him how to let it all out), and then maybe hwei's pov got so "distorted" that he murdered everyone by accident. his quote to jhin basically say smt like "you taught me, and i will never forgive you for what i did with that knowledge". Hwei has admiration for jhin for being his "teacher" and being an incredible artist, but also hates him for turning hwei into some kind of monster. "lie by the fire you started" = "die by the hands of the monster you created" "you brought it to light, jhin" = "you taught me that" or "you showed me how to see this"
Jhin make a scene when he kill, like in theater, he could have spent some times in the temple , before everything was ready like he want for the murder. Jhin is literally a psychopath who make art of killing and he's used for spread fear by a group who free him of prison, all supose Noxian did it.
That's great actually he knew he had a darkness in him and jhin saw it and helped him let it out let he see the true meaning of destruction that's why on level 2 R lines he speaks to the jhin as he's saying look at me master I did it I finally able to see what you thought me and his "killing the jhin" idea actually showing jhin how much he learn and surpassed him
I doubt Jhin can have that kind of relationship with anyone. To me it sounds like some sort of artistic infatuation without Jhin knowing anything at all and possible not giving a shit who this guy is. Totally one sided.
i think hwei was able to see the artistry in jhins work since he witnessed/experienced it first hand and is an artist through and through.. i feel like he’s in this inner conflict of this spark that jhin ignited in him and … well.. not enjoying murder
6:20 reminds me of the scene in AtLA when soot/ash starts falling from the sky like snow, signaling the approach of a fire nation ship (I think it was Zuko’s)
Necrit, you should watch the Hannibal TV series. I feel it heavily influences Jhin and Hwei seeing killing as an artform which is rampant throughout the show. In the final episode of season 3, Hannibal ends up opening Will's eyes on how beautiful killing is. Especially his voice line in 10:17 where he gets a kill assist on Jhin. Will assists Hannibal in killing Dolarhyde.
Maybe the "Despair" (or disaster) is a Demon (an underworld spirit) and the "Serenity" is a spirit of Ionia (a spirit of the surface). And then Torment is what builds inside Hwei's mind from the combination of those two opposite forces that he can "summon". He might be in Torment because he is constantly stuck between the forces of surface/light spirits and underworld/dark spirits.
I sympathize a lot with the way hwei talks... symbols, metaphors, and other ways in which he makes complex feelings and emotions into something able to be comunicated but not easy understood, as if there were not enough words for them
It's a less fun interpretation, but I believe the whole light/dark thing is a play on artistic interpretation from Hwei's POV. Art is subjective, and Hwei is using his experiences to quite literally paint his interpretation of the art before him. Light is him seeing beauty and value in a more serene/sublime interpretation, while Dark is him embracing brutalist/violent interpretations, both of which he expresses through his own art. "Feel with me" is the desperate attempt to make connections and share his art in a way that Hwei hopes others can understand/sympathize with.
The demons are the best theory. Wouldn't I be crazy though if he was actually tied to a watcher? It's not like they've only invaded through the freljord. He keeps talking about visions; he has a spell that is a watching eye he talks about seeing a lot especially the ink like of it staring back. Again demons still the best fit.
It’s funny how relatable I feel towards Hwei’s emotional palate currently in my life. And this is coming from a veteran, old school ex Jhin main turned Aphelios main… It’s almost scary how relevant all of this and how everything connects is to me.
Hwei: "Emotions are most dangerous when silenced" That's in my eyes a very strong hint to a demon, cause Ashleash has "silenced" every Emotion of Nilah and overpowered them with this twisted kind of Joy. For Hwei it could be that his emotions are also silenced to strengh his "artistic expression".
Hwei seems like a very troubled person who was probably weak enough for a demon to enter and take control. He seems to enjoy the concept of blending light and dark. However, it would be VERY interesting if the demon is a demon of hope instead of despair. Especially because he was already placed into places of despair and destruction. For him to ignore it and have hope would be too typical. So maybe the demon is hope, which would explain the cycle of torment because the demon wont allow him to sulk and enjoy his destructive nature. So he found beauty within it and admires the hope that’s trying to fix what he destroys.
I feel like it would be 100% a Jhin play for him to have found this kid with a wonderful and beautifully artistic power only to play him like a fiddle. He could’ve been the one to push Hwei to use his powers then once the damage has started to take place Jhin would take over for the final crescendo.
The word "cling" is interesting, maybe it's not demons like Nilah, Evelyne, Swain, etc. But maybe he's related to Azakanas, maybe he has 3 of them attached to him. I don't remember everything about Azakanas, but I feel like that could be it.
Ok some thoughts I had maybe someone else thought something similar then I dont feel as mad 1. Hwei talking bout Jhin opening his eyes + Hwei experiencing the world differently than others, did hwei see differently before or after Jhin? also maybe "seeing the world differently" is a hint at how people with heavy depression see the world in a darker light e.g. differently? also also maybe it's just the "eye of the artist" which people in the art community often refer to or maybe both? 2. was it ever actually stated that Jhin killed all those people? do we know that the connection to hwei happened AFTER jhins imprisonment? What if the time Jhin and hwei met Jhin was just some guy with a quirk for the specialitè of artistry? What if Jhin just saw the artistic potential in the repressed young boys art? WHAT IF Jhin was some kind of guide or influence in Hweis life which led to Hwei experimenting more and delving more and more in his till then feared depths of his art? WHAT IF!!!! at some point it all exploded in the greatest form of artistry and death which left all of hweis other mentors and bystanders dead, except for Jhin just for him to witness the singlemost beautiful... ehm... something Jhin subconsiously always sought????? In the aftermath leaving Jhin in this crazed state we now know him in desperately trying to recreate what he had witnessed? and Hwei realizing what he had done, fighting to keep these emotions and feelings to himself leaving him with this somber despaired personality? searching for Jhin who hwei feels responsible to show him what jhin has opened Hweis eye to (e.g. the dark side of what their "art" causes) 3. If Jhin is 4,... Is Hwei then 3 because he is not willing to go this 1 step further Jhin had gone? 4. If Hwei sees through the "Eye of the Artist" then one could assume he sees the emotions behind the picture. for example most artist paint a picture not because it would look pretty but to create a certain emotion within the people experiencing the art, that like the main goal (or something idk I'm no artsy guy) BUT if you take that to the extreme and combine that with MAGIC, one could assume that maybe whatever art Hwei produces might be potent enough to actually manifest different kinds of feelings and emotions in people. maybe even to the extreme, like for example make a guy so jealous he'd kill someone? 5. ALSO ALSO ALSO to come back to the "Eye of the Artist" phrase and being able to see the emotion behind the picture maybe THATS WHY when he SEEs Syndra, Hwei SEES the emotions and feeling behind her and not actually syndra herself MAYBE Hwei doesn't actually see a Castle throwing, Manslaughtering Dommy-Mommy with great fashion-sense, but ACTUALLY the young, hurt and abandoned little Girl that was to powerless to fight back against the people who robbed her of her childhood? 6. SAME THING WITH AHRI (but lil different) Ahri's supposed to be this essence thieving fox-godess/spirit creature with great makeup -> essence THIEVING
19:02 Hold on… Is Riot turning us all into Hweis? Making us come up with theories about him, seeing him in different ways just like he sees reality differently from everybody else? This sounds like a 200IQ move from Riot's part, but it might just be a coincidence 🥲.
A theory on why Hwei thinks Sett has useful informations: If the timeline of events line up like you thought, Hwei would probably figure out that the noxians had their hand in releasing Jhin, and since a lot shady noxians also go to Setts fight pits Sett is probably Hweis best chance to get information on the invasion and who could have released Jhin just because of the crowd he pulls into his pits
What if jhin was a human really dedicated to art in particular in floral design. One day someone destroys one of he designs/masterpieces and that enrages Jhin and leads him to go kill the person that destroyed his art. Jhin then covers his tracks by making an art piece out of it. This is then seen by the demon of carnage. The demon is impressed by Jhins method and thinks Jhin is the perfect way to bring carnage to the world. (it's the demon carnage because jhin says when he is picked "in carnage, I bloom, like a flower in the dawn") demon somehow gets jhin to put on his mask. (kinda like the masks yone Carries around) this can happen in more ways demon gets killed by Jhin and then Jhin picks up his mask and puts it on or they make some sort deal like the demon telling Jhin that together they will make the world beautiful. (This could be hinted at in the quote for Jhin saying "everyone wears a mask, I just chose to create my own" actually being the demon as Jhin saying he created himself a mask. It's probably not but it's just a theory) Ps sorry for any bad spelling or grammar I am dyslexic and I hope this isn't true because I think Jhin is better designed without a demon.
15:23 - "The sky isn't blue, the grass isn't green" Might be a reference to van Gogh and how he perceived nature, which is a cool detail (which made me emotiobal).
I think the idea is that Jhin IS insane, but that the beautiful madness he sees from his killing is because of of the nature of the demonic power, and Hwei, who is not insane, has enough sense to make more observations and inquiries as opposed to Jhin who just goes on artistic killing sprees.
Huh, how very fascinating, it seems like more and more pieces are presented to us, let’s see if we can match them all together. Also, Kindred was a Mystery?
Jhin's madness is not really a demonic influence. I think it's just him serving as the demons vessel servant because of that madness. As for the demon of despair, his vessel could be the four handed weapon maker from legends that orovides him with weapons.
About the silenced emotions, I believe they mean that the more you supress your emotions it becomes that much easier to exploit them and in a much grander degree than if you would just feel sad about smth and cried about it. If you keep suppressing that sadness it might explode into a violent rage, therefore a more potent and volatile feeling that one can feed on.
This is a bit of a stretch but whenever I think of the war between ionia and noxians, I remember the "Awaken Cinematic" even though it might just be a promotional cinematic.. I'm wondering if there is more to it in the background such as zed's involvement and shen's involvement with the entire thing and hwei was aware of everything happening during the war
I think it'd be fun if Hwei had connections to demons, but Jhin still had none. Like, Jhin is such an enigma that Demons find him just as fascinating as everyone else, and maybe Hwei uses that fact to his advantage. (Maybe even in relation to the "blending" line between him and Kayne...)
gotta give props to riot, they promised to improve and they delivered with this champion. its pretty dope to look back to their recent progressions and mistakes, they’re doing great
I would imagine he has a darkin soul similar to kayn. All the darkins are distinguished by a weapon, aatrox - great sword, kayn/rhaast - scythe, nafeeri - dagger. I wouldn't be surprised if hwei's is the brush. The light and dark that is referenced might be the his soul vs the darkin. The third soul that is referenced here-and-there in some parts might be the soul of a god he was worshipping at in the temple. This would make sense because all basic skills have 3 different outcome depending on the combinations. This is also a healthy mod to jhin, since jhin is obsessed with 4. Would love to see if the numbers become relevant to hwei
Maybe itll be like kaisa in the way her suit changes with what you use. Maybe his ult will change color or look depending on which abilities you use the most?
