Shou puerh tea is an incredible and mysterious product of Yunnan, China. The exact details of the process to turn sheng puerh into shou puerh are a closely guarded secret. Most masters won't let you see into their factory to show you how they do it. We found one factory that would! This is a quick look inside a shou puerh tea wet pile fermentation (wodui) factory!
Check out our growing collection of quality shou puerh tea here: crimsonlotustea.com/collectio...

Glen, FANTASTIC. Sorry you couldn't show it all but I'm sure that some of your new Shou (a.k.a. ripe) teas will be from this factory! Please let us know when you post them for sale if that is the case. THANKS and as always, keep the videos of your sourcing trip adventures coming!

Thanks for posting this! Even though you couldn’t show everything, it’s still the most I’ve seen on the wo dui process. After I started drinking shou’s, I searched for videos on the process, and found almost nothing on wet piling.

I've found weird things in my tea cakes too, there was this one time I saw a beetle head in a cake! 😆

Super interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing with us! I've seen pictures of facilities before and this one is definitely hands down the cleanest that I've seen.

Awesome video - amazing to see exactly how this factory makes its cakes. And love how you explain everything as well. Would love to see a cake on your site that came from this factory.

Ahhh I finally got to watch this video! I decided to wait until I received my latest order of tea from you guys, so I could drink some CLT while watching this (Sorry, couldn't wait the few weeks I ought to for the tea to settle in). I decided to try the stone lion, and wow... Just wow! I love it so much, even though it's quite bitter! I might have to buy a few of these kitties because it is damn good, especially for the price! I am looking forward to trying some of the samples I have gotten from you as well. Thanks for the video and thanks for your tea releases I have gotten to try so far.

Oh I got a story for you! About a month ago,I busted into a 100 gram Shou cake,it is heavenly. I recently attacked it from the other side,and the separated piece that I broke off just wouldn’t pull away! It was at that moment,I noticed human hair entwined amongst the leaves!!!! I brewed it anyway. Had a nice shampoo note. Just kidding🤣 It was a stupendous tea.

Are you negotiating any future Crimson Lotus offerings using this producer's material? It would be very interesting to have a cake in the collection tied directly to a facility I've "seen." Best regards and good fortune.
@CrimsonLotusTea
@CrimsonLotusTea 6 лет назад
Possibly! I just need to find 1,000kg of sheng puerh I'm willing to sacrifice and then pay him. It's not a cheap proposition.
@jepkratz
@jepkratz 6 лет назад
Since shou is, philosophically, the poor (or impatient) man's route to aged sheng, and the wodui process changes the character of the material, isn't it true that the top grade sheng - that which would be considered a real sacrifice - isn't what is truly required? I'm not suggesting lowering the Crimson Lotus standards, so much as suggesting as far as shou is concerned, the bar is not inherently expected to be set the highest. Therefore, perhaps blending some merely decent with some pretty good material could get you to 1000kg affordably, and still yield a product on which you will be proud to put your label - particularly if the wodui is conducted by a true master as it would appear you have found.
@jepkratz
@jepkratz 6 лет назад
I say the previous as a genuine fan of shou, and I often blend embarrassingly inexpensive shou 25% with 75% mid grade dayi and have very enjoyable sessions. Maybe I'm just one of those who gets a kick out of finding ways to be frugal, but still find enjoyment.
@CrimsonLotusTea
@CrimsonLotusTea 6 лет назад
I know exactly what you mean. You're not wrong, but things have changed a lot shou puerh wise in the past 5 years or so. I think shou puerh (in certain cases) has really come into it's own as a specialty product. I don't think that the main goal of shou puerh is faking aged sheng puerh anymore. It's more than that. Were we to commission an entire wodui fermentation we would choose material well suited for both the process and our standards. Well made shou puerh from quality material is an impressive thing.
@jepkratz
@jepkratz 6 лет назад
Absolutely. I have some high end shou that knocks my socks off every time, but perhaps that's because they're not my daily drinkers. I guess it depends on your target market and the tier of quality/price you want to achieve, and you certainly know your particular market better than I. Unless you believe this wodui master can produce a genuine enhancement of the starting material, your own palette and investment capital are telling you that you are thinking of using/sacrificing material best processed as sheng. I know you know your stuff re; blending of grades, my only hope is you find the right combination to get the project going and be both a critical and commercial success. Very best regards.

I had a corn kernel in a low quality cake I bought before I found out it was garbage. (Not from you but a site I learned was garbage). How would a corn kernel get into a cake? Which stage would be most suspect?
@CrimsonLotusTea
@CrimsonLotusTea 5 лет назад
My guess would be when the leaf material was just picked. These remote farm villages are rustic and there are chickens running everywhere. I'm guessing a kernel fell in somehow. They also dry a lot of corn by hanging it outside. Maybe a piece fell off as they were carrying a basket of leaf around. They may even reuse the carrying bags. Most things like that are caught during the handful of processing steps afterwards but mistakes do happen.
@kirkoneill725
@kirkoneill725 5 лет назад
Crimson Lotus Tea I should have kept the kernel. Looks like it had a story lmao
