In this video I review the Hamgeek APX-8000. This radio is a very weird one and somehow is being sold without Motorola intervening and shutting them down.
For $100 this radio works just fine. 12 watts. Works on GMRS and local simplex channels. Calm down and deal with the fact its not a Motorola APX for $4000.
I bought 6 of these things for movie props. But then, I started using one on GMRS simplex and repeater offsets. Also, as a scanner for some local EMS frequencies. They outperformed UV5R's on just about every level. Receive audio quality, TX audio quality, battery life. Your review sounds like Motorola paid you to make it. 😂
Wow... Sounds like you need a Snickers bar and then maybe lighten up over a $100 radio... Why did you buy it if you were this convinced it would be such a horrible/crappy deal? Oh well. I think I'll go buy one now.
It does have WFM 64-108MHz, by holding in the 0 Zero key and to return to regular channel mode by holding the zero key again, also menu# 40 puts it in the scrambler mode, you can change from the memory channels to VFO by holding the top right key that looks like a computer monitor, and hold it in again to switch between memory and VFO ,to put the Radio in to scan mode hold in the star key on the bottom left on the keypad, this Radio doesn't do DMR or P-25, analog only W0TRJ Apr 2024
Picked one up for $109, works great on ham radio repeaters! Signal reports have been great. It is what it is, just because it looks like a Motorola APX-8000 don't expect it to operate as a P25 portable.
Just popping my head in to let you know that the apx-8000 gives baofeng a run for it's money having just perfected mine today using the programming software/cable Best part now is that my channel's are alpha tagged so i know what amateur or general use channel im on
So I have a couple questions because I’m new to the mmdvm hotspots and pi-star and brandmister. Can this radio be used with a mmdvm hotspot and be used to access pi-star or brandmisters talkgroups
I know the Chinese radios, like Boafeng have a real hard time eliminating squelch tail, actually, they can’t. Can you silence squelch tail with this any better? It might have been worth buying if it at least did P25 conv.
That's why I got one. A real APX brand new would be 3/4 of a year's income for me. I don't know how anyone ever affords them. Haven't lucked into a crackhead yet. 😜 That said, this thing works fairly well and it doesn't feel chintzy like a lot of CCR's. I really got it for looks. There is an audio cutout issue on rx but I worked around that by setting it go wide on the troublesome channels. It's only a glorified scanner for my use.
My first thought when I saw some posts about it, looks like a cheap Chinese radio in an fake APX 8000 shell. There is a market for this sort of thing though, based on the chatter, they've been selling a lot of them.
I bought one for grins and giggles and was not expecting much so I was not disappointed... once you program via computer you lose the top display, the software is free but crappier than the radio. This is Baofeng is a fancy chassis. I bought mine and the seller gave me a 50% refund so for $50 it works fine for hammy stuff. Power output is okay 10-12 watts no problem.
first of all i find your review horrible if you dont like the radio dont buy it second of all the looks its called when a pattent runs out on something thats manufactured it gives other companies the opportunity to copy it
BTW- regarding Tx power output, your comment “I can tell you that’s a lie. I’ve not tested it, but that’s a lie” is idiotic (unless you are perhaps a psychic). I DID test it and it’s NOT a lie. 12.68W on full power 2M transmit.
I got one & for the price its not bad, if he hates it that much I'll take it off his hands! The mic connection sucks but workable. But I knew that going into it. Still trying to figure out how to use the features tho. I couldn't watch this whole video,lol
This thing isnt even good enough to throw at someones head.. mine stopped charging a few days before the return window so i sent that piece of crap back for a refund.
I don't get this at all - it works great, is nice and solid, and by any standard of comparison I have - is a great performer. This review is hardly valid. An abomination? why?
Most beta review by the most beta reviewer. The number of times you flipped the camera/radio around, you should title this video, "What Should I Do With My Hands?"
hands down one of the strangest review videos ive ever watched LOL i dont know if i should buy it and use it or buy and shoot it🤣 i ve watched your sdr trunk videos at elast 3 times each and i still cant get the godamn thing working LMFAO i had a voice come through and almost shit myself thinking by george ive got it! and then nothing....... i got js8 call working tonight, that was pretty cool. texting without cell or wifi ....are we on our way to a ham internet where we dont need big corp big tech!!! oh man that would be sweet.
