I think it’s hilarious that the Hummer H2 and H3’s are known for their horrific electrical problems and when they decided to bring it back they made it all electrical😳🤪
They were not designed by the same people who designed the ones with electrical problems. I am sure Chevy stole peoplefrom Tesla like most other people who are doing new EV’s now.
It weighs 10,000lbs... But can only tow 7,500lbs. Meaning, It can't tow itself. If one of them breakdown, they'll have to get the Airforce heavy lift unit. Is it just me, but are some companies just missing the point of EVs
The point of EVs is to replace internal combustion. The Hummer gets the equivalent of 47MPGe. A similarly sized gas truck with half the power wouldn't even be half that.
@@PerfectlyUselessComment QinetiQ & BAE are developing Series Hybrid Armored Vehicles like IFV and Self propelled Artillery. Will need to be faster than M1 Abrams and accelerate harder. Thanks to 4 Motors kicking out 1.1 Megawatts.
Hello from England Sarah, Love the channel. I have watched a lot of past vids to catch up and noticed that you are a workaholic. Take a break and get some physical rest as well as mental rest, we will all still be here when you get back. All our love from the UK
I'm starting to think that these OVERSIZED vehicles should either be banned or require special licenses for use and be subject to different liability standards. North America is already full of "let them die not us" vehicles but 10,000 lbs and 1000 hp is a whole new level. Defensive driving is no longer drive safely but rather buy a bigger hunk of metal. I drive Priuses. No longer "I drive a Prius" because a non-lifted gigantic piece of crap pickup truck attempted to get at me from behind at a yellow light. My Prius was totaled and the pickup truck driver was kind of bragging about not being able to see any damage to his vehicle. But don't be concerned, your them not us mentality seems to have support of the law. In court I did say I had to stop fast because I saw an oncoming left turner "start" to come across on the yellow (but didn't) and there was a witness that said I stopped fast and was making up the part about the left turner so I was charged with dangerous driving and held fully responsible for the entire incident because I stopped faster than that big hunk of crap could possibly stop. I didn't even know that was a thing. Now what would this Hummer be capable of doing to my Prius given the same speed being three times the weight and most likely given a higher speed since it is fun to be capable of going three times faster. I can hear the dinner table conversation now.... "Oh you were in a fatal accident. It's lucky no one in your family got hurt!", "Oh yes, buying that Hummer was the smartest thing I've ever done"!
My two favourite RU-vid channels collide. Can’t wait to see you re-build one of these. I’m guessing Scott’s used part imperium might not have all the necessary pierces. Lol. Have a great day from Nova Scotia
@@vehcor I’m just a DIY’er of small things. But I have to confess I clean things too. But not to the extent Sarah does. But, that said it never bothers me when you don’t. If it got that dirty before guessing it will again in a day or two. Hopefully a new vid tomorrow so I can be bored.
Just be cautious manufacturers are getting sneaky with permanent software discounts on battery packs once it's been in even slight fender benders... Ask me how I know... Thanks BMW for that feature on the i3 😑. Otherwise can't wait to see your rebuild 🤩👍
110k that is a lot of NOPE. The new Grand Wagoneer is the same way to over priced. Rear steering just more shit to break just after the warrantee expires.
Applying this same method to other conventional gasoline-powered trucks would generate equally shocking numbers. The Chevy Silverado 3500HD's 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 engine makes 910 lb-ft at the crank, but multiplying that number by its first-gear and final-drive ratios results in an insane 14,129 lb-ft, more than the Hummer's claim. Marketing people going to market.
Chevy Spark EV was 400lb/ft at the motor shaft. NOT after gearing and going to the Front Wheels. Hummer EV is estimated to be around 380lb/ft for both rear motor and 350 lb/ft for the the front motors. Problem with multiple electric motor drive trains you can't just add them up as peaks may occure at different RPM range. Soo just over 1,000lb/ft over a massive Pht Torque band is where Hummer EV is overkill. That 6.6L Turbo Diesel V8 Silverado probably has like 800lb/ft plus torque band for like Half the RPM range of a Hummer EV. Big Peak + Long duration torque band is where it's killer.
Cholla cactus watch out! Once i was shooting photography in Joshua Tree Park and was wearing sandles and shorts. i was framing my shot and walked backwards right into a cholla bush. The bushs spines stuck into me from the back of my thighs, knees, calfs and feet. one of the worst experiences I've ever had. i was solo traveling in my van and had to pick all the spines out myself. Pulling the spines out caused them to get stuck in my hands and forarms as well. It was only the second time in my life i have cried as a grown adult male lol.
I’m wondering what kind of maintenance these require? Can the average person do brakes , shocks , ordinary stuff or does it have to go to dealer for everything. Let us know Sarah please. I love the truck just concerned about cost over time
@@dontrend5956 seriously right? if someone has the kind of coin for this or any other luxury vehicle, they're gonna be taking to the dealership for maintenance.
No true at all I do all my own maintenance and always have. And yes that includes high dollar cars like Mercedes and Porsche. I couldn’t afford the cars if I paid for maintenance and the car.
actually this thing is so heavy that you need to have a truck driving licence (and i mean truck like that thing that is made to haul cargo, not like a pickup truck) in my country (maybe whole europe... above 3.5 tons). You cant drive it with a passenger car licence.
$100,000, for a battery on wheels that you have to be a computer tech to operate are you kidding me that's ridiculous, but the cool thing was seeing the smile on your face, that was worth more than that battery truck that's for sure, 😊😊😊😊😊
This is the dumbest thing ever. The battery itself literally weighs as much as a whole Honda Civic. Its whole purpose in life is just to haul around the bulk of its own bulk.
Am I the only one that feels like many of these new trucks look familiar? I think they studied the FJ Cruiser. I pulled up next to a Bronco the other day and it looked a lot like my FJ. Now this truck. Don't get me wrong, I think it's brilliant. Now if Toyota would join the party. That would nice. (eye roll)
It feels like they made it very "high end" in order to limit the number of people that are going to buy one, rather than make something that competes directly with a truck or an off-road vehicle. A full-size SUV design, not just some cover for the truck bed, would have been better, but then, given it's weight, perhaps finding some normal street tires would have been an issue?
The SUV version is an actual SUV with a finished cargo area. Not just a truck with a cover. GM has over 20 EVs coming in the next few years at all price points, including under $25k.
Something I am very curious about that nobody ever mentions when reviewing electric vehicles, how much does towing reduce the range? For instance if you put a large caravan behind it how much is range reduced.
Amazing tech and features. But... So many things that can break and be hard to diagnose over time. I'd take a simpler vehicle any day over this. I hope somone makes a simple rugged off road EV some time soon. Is it to much to ask for a vehicle where the only "extra" is climate control and basic cruise control?
It's not an off-roader, but if you want a simple, affordable, efficient, and presumably durable truck, the maverick is for you. That hybrid system is bulletproof.
@@whosyourdaddy00 Agreed, (or a Landcruiser of a similar vintage depending on your preferences and parts availability in your part of the world). However these are not EVs. I guess a EV conversion could be done, but that is definitely only for the serious enthusiast.
I'm curious what the real world range will be on this EV. Factory numbers are always on the higher side. It is so funny the marketing focuses on the multiplied wheel torque just to be able to mention a stupidly high number. The real number being somewhere in the 1100-1200 pound ft.
Great review! The way it launched I though you might give it a higher bean score. I got to drive a Tesla Model S a few years ago. It's easily the fastest car I've ever drive, even though I didn't get to drive as fast as I wanted. It wasn't mine. The crab walk feature is interesting I must say. Looking forward to when you can test it like a normal review. Take care!
Best regards from Germany. I like your videos very much. My thoughts about this "tank". Drive into the desert with an unladen weight of (4100kg) + payload (assuming 1500kg) on a 200ml trip. And then hope that the range of 521ml is guaranteed. Even in heavy terrain. I hope the navigation system knows all the charging options on the chosen route. My personal opinion . . . This is not a desert truck. This is a city mobile. best wishes for the future Wolfgang
Quite impressive how they applied rear wheel steering to an off-road vehicle! Still think that it's quite stupid to build a vehicle this heavy. The original Humvee was actually relatively light (even though it didn't look like it was), which makes sense for off-roading. And throwing it out of airplanes, which I'm sure nobody will do with this one...
3:55 It's when the truck is equipped with a rail gun this button projects the aim triangle on the windshield for you to shoot (like in Predator movies).
I had to watch you give it the beans twice. Once to see your reaction and a second time to see Charlie's. His involuntary laugh spoke volumes about how much acceleration that truck has.
When I was in the Air Force, our ukes (aircraft tow vehicles) had crab walk and rear steer capabilities. While the rear steer came in handy, I can't recall a single time I needed crab walk. It's mostly pointless.
12,000 lbs of torque? Cannot wait for the more technical review cause that is NUTS. This 10,000 lb EV monster blasts around like a really tall supercar.
Everything about that beast is insane, from the power to the crab walk, to the weight, to the crazy acceleration, to mind bending amounts of tech. GM went all out with that Hummer, including the price at $110K, it is steep. I would love to get to experience that WTF mode, at least once.
Intentional or not, the dynamic of you and Charlie had me dying. Sarah just rambling off her nuttiness and Charlie just sitting there silently, sightseeing.
According to another review I've seen, this behemoth does 0-60mph in 3 seconds flat! Which is ridiculous considering it weighs more than a GMC 3500 dually. I was afraid the electric future would be filled with generic robot pods or jellybean cars, but at least for those with money there'll be some really cool EVs. I'm looking forward to what this can do on your regular offroad trails; hmm, crabwalk donuts anyone? 😀
I can't believe how massive that is. It weighs way more than any other full size SUV, more than an F-450 with a diesel, and what about adding 10,000 LB of battery to a semi truck, will it come with a permanent overweight permit, I have nothing against electric but llll ll lllllll lll llllll lll lllll. I Just Said That!?
Hatches on boats have been made of Lexan for a long time now and their lenses seam to hold up for 30+ years easily. They usually fail due to the sealants and gaskets that hold the lens in place. Seams like a great way to build lighter roof panels for a vehicle if impact protection isn't a big concern.
From $108,700 Starting price Ha Ha I don't think so, What a joke. Hopefully no one will be that gullible, As to buy one of these things. Wow I can't believe GMC would build something that useless for the price, And weighing in at almost 10,000 pounds that only going to destroy road surfaces faster NO! Because then everybody starts paying even higher taxes to try to keep the roads up, Screw that I say go smaller and lighter. Remember those words Smaller & Lighter!
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!! Can't wait for the full review. I'd LOVE to see a comparison between the Jimmy-Hummer and the Rivian, the new kid on the block. I bet Charlie is going to want one, or already ordered one. Ha! The fear in your face when you backed off the throttle showed how massive and powerful this nutty truck is. AND! Great job on editing! I know you were "out of your element" but still delivered the channel's consistency in editing the video. A lot of RU-vidrs don't get the proper kudos in the final presentation process. Your videos always deliver greatness! Thank you!
I wonder if it will come to europe. With over 4000kg you cannot even drive it with a normal B class drivers license (max 3500kg)! You need to have a higher class or made your license befor the year ~2000 (with that old license up to 7500kg is permitted).
For those that don't know, Cholla cactus have fishhook barbs that will easily snag you and the branch detaches. Have had to pull it out of my dog, and you have to be careful that you don't get stuck while removing them.
A road trip for me is anything that is over 500+ miles. I typically drive 10-12 hrs straight through to where I'm going only stopping for gas, burgers and a couple of pit stops for pissing! These electric vehicles are too range limited for my life style. Towing distance is even worse! Nothing more than glorified toys for rich people who can piss away $110K. Bad investment.
