How did I never find this channel before researching silverados? Former Engineer, doing car reviews, with an amusing rating system, and no signs of shilling for local dealerships or mfgs, AND doing restos/mods??. This is like everything I want in a youtube channel.

I'd opt for the 8 over the 4 any day, especially since the 4 is turbocharged and can drop half it's displacement. That 4 might be great new, but I very much doubt it will age well. Also, when did a low end truck costing over 50 grand become a good deal. I must be getting old.....GET OFF MY LAWN !

Holy, 430lb-ft out of a 4cyl is pretty impressive for a factory output. So long as the rods stay on the block, that is. The definitely need a 2 door sporty car that would be ~1/2 the price of the Corvette with this engine. The drone footage was cool to add to your production too.

@@franktags136 For the sake of the buyers, let's hope Chevy engineered this little engine to take all that torque. Guess only time will tell, so it might be wise to avoid being an early adopter on this one.
@matthewcaughey8898
@matthewcaughey8898 Год назад
@@paulm749 they didn’t. These 2.7 turbos all suffer from horrific fuel mpg. See to try to keep it from detonating they run a very rich fuel map in the ECU this results in the engine running overly rich to prevent it from blowing itself to bits. The engine is seriously over boosted and over stressed and they come in blown up quite often. You absolutely have to flog the piss out of it to get it to preform. It’s also paired with the 8 speed automatic a transmission known as the destruct-o-matic for its problems with hard shifting, juddering and other issues. For a truck that works do not pay 50k plus to GM, if it’s gotta be GM buy anything with an older LS based V8 and a 6 speed auto, those don’t blow up. Seen to many of there’s traded back in cause the owner wants better MPG

Shutting down cylinders to save fuel is dumb. It causes premature cylinder wear to the "off" cylinders. Honda did it with the Odysseys in the 2000's and they are notorious for oil burning once you get some miles on them. Dumb... love the lab coat look 😍

Why would it cause premature wear? Actual question.
@harbingertheheretic3541
@harbingertheheretic3541 Год назад
GM has been doing this since the 1970s, at least. Maybe longer, but I'm too brainfried from work to remember right now. The premature cylinder wear isn't the only problem that they've had by far.
@B-rad1
@B-rad1 Год назад
@@robertt9342 It's normal for a small amount of oil to squeeze past the cylinder rings as the piston cycles, and it combusts with the air and fuel already in the cylinder without a problem. When Honda designed its cylinder deactivation system they didn't account for the quantity of oil that would pool up in the cylinder without combustion actively clearing it out. As a result, the oil would all combust at once when the cylinder was reactivated and cause issues with the piston rings and egr.

I had a 2019 with a V8 and the torque converter went out at 30k miles (service record says “Glazed Over”). It took 3 months to fix and when I got it back, it behaved the same way as when I took it in initially. Sometimes when coming to a stop, it'd feel like you got rear ended. In those 30k miles, I had the roof leak, went through 3 recalls on the brakes, the head end unit would randomly reboot when I got a MS teams notification on my phone while plugged into my iPhone. I sold it and went to Nissan and have been mostly happy since, although the Titan has its quirks as well - not nearly as much as the Silverado. (Edit for typo and update to issue ).

Hey Sarah. Unfortunately the frame is waxed only. No paint underneath. If you live in Canada like I do, you have to re-wax yearly, as it wears off on certain sections. You can literally scrape the wax off to the metal, only don’t use your nail. That stuff is hard to get off fingers. 😁

I've been driving turbo charged Saab's for nearly 30 years now. My current 9-5 is tuned to 300 HP and 330 ft pd of torque out of a 2.3L 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. The torque delivery of a turbocharged engine is totally different than an NA engine. Peak torque comes in at low RPM and stays until way up in the RPM range. This means the engine can do more work at lower RPM's and the power feels effortless. Also consider that I get 33 mpg out of my car on the hwy. If I had a 300 HP v-8 under the hood i'd be lucky to get 23-24mpg. My Saab 9-5 has 217K miles on it and runs perfectly and still outruns almost any family sedan on the road. If these turbocharged engines are engineer right they last and make impressive power with better fuel econ.

This motor doesn't make a lot of sense for most Truck owners but I have been impressed with the tech involved in it. It has been out over a year now and I haven't heard too much bad except the fuel mileage. This motor belongs in a car of some sort just to make things exciting. I would also love to see the intake tech and valvetrain tech in a V8. Spoiling a turbo right off idle is pretty slick. Love my GM stuff.
@justplanefred
@justplanefred Год назад
I get what you're saying about the motor not making much sense in a truck... That is 100% true for people that use it as a truck, the sad thing is most don't anymore. It's more of a fashion statement, in my opinion for a majority of truck and larger SUV drivers. They should definitely put it in a car of some sort but it needs to be RWD as GM would likely put it in a car in a wheel hopping, torque steering, tire spinning FWD pos...

The advantage of this over the Ford 2.7 ecoboost, with fewer cylinders they can make the block, rods, pistons, etc. beefier to handle the boost. It's the main reason why Toyota opted for a 3 cylinder on the Corolla GR. I don't expect this to become the sales leader over the 5.3, and I would personally take the 5.3 if I were buying one because V8 sounds and the LS/LT motors are known to be pretty reliable and have huge aftermarket potential, but it is nice to have options. this engine is going to be awesome in the Colorado/Canyon

Just to clarify, there is no black paint under the High Temperature Wax coating in the frame. It is applied directly over bare steel in a dip tank. The frame is welded together, dipped in a cleaning solution and then waxed. The transfer case logo is not American Axle but Magna International (who supplies the frame itself to GM). The plastic panel covering the front suspension components is not a “skid plate” but a stone shield.
