Here's an anecdote about Isabelle's name : In the French version, her name is "Marie", because it sounds a lot like "Mairie", which is French for town hall. Occasionally, players (and even Nintendo of France) affectionately nickname her "Marie de la mairie" (Isabelle from the town hall) just for the sake of the wordplay. I just thought that was a cute fact worth mentioning

Here’s a complementary fun fact: In the Spanish version of the game, Isabelle is named Canela, which means Cinnamon. But her name also has a hidden pun as “Can” is also a way of calling dogs in Spanish. So her name is a double-pun, as it means she’s booth sweet and a dog. In fact, her brother’s name is Candrés, which is also a mix of the name Andrés (Andrew) and “Can” (Dog).

@@OniOmelette Nnnoo... No that's very wrong. Bisexual is the correct word here. Bisexual is when you don't care about gender. Pan means you can find sexual attraction in anything and anyone. It's not just a cool way of saying bisexual, it actually means a lot. However, when we consider that the mayor is human, maybe pansexual is a bit more fitting for Isabelle? But please use the word carefully, and don't use it in place of bisexual for the sake of it. Very very few characters are pansexual, and those that are tend to be men who travel space in search of aliens to spend a night with. It works well in fantasy and sci fi things, less well IRL.

Talking animals are one of the things in fantasy (like magic) that people are generally fine with. But being "realistic" is different within the bounds of fiction; in order for the characters and situations to be compelling (or at least not blazenly poorly cobbled together) they have to act as "realistically" as they can within the few suspensions of disbelief that they can use.

A lot of places that need to run efficiently and used to use mics with horrible audio quality - like airports - use it.

I'm a big Tom Nook-fan too! Simply because he has such a great "background story". He began small with a tiny shop selling you a bunch of items, than expanded his field to selling estade. My favorite character has always been Kappa. When I was a kid, walking to the very end of my town and getting on that boat with him made me feel such an indescribable way. His song always made my heart both sad and happy. I guess it's kind of like a lullaby to a baby. And he always stopped in the middle to joke around. He never grew tired of taking me to the island, he just loved his little boat. He was like a loving dad waiting patiently. If he appears in New Horizons I'm absolutely gonna lose my shit.

Just want to appreciate how clever localization team for Nintendo. Here is the Chinese version 西施惠. So 西施 is a breed of dog popular in China (yes the Shih Tzu dog) and it is also a name for a historical figure who is a beautiful lady. 惠 means benefit, favor, and can be use to describe a lady’s virtuous. It is usually used for girls name. The most amazing thing is 西施惠 reads as “shee shh Huei”, which sounds like its Japanese original name, Shizue.

I really like "Canela", the Spanish name. Mainly because the reason why she's named like that is unknown since there are a lot of reasons. Can is actually a formal name to say dog, canela is actually the word for cinnamon. It can come also from the expression "canela en rama" for saying something is very good, or because cinnamon is a symbol of wisdom, or it may derivate from the name "Candela"...

I'm a realy big fan of Sable, i was very charmed by her character progression in new leaf and learning her backstory was the last nail to make her my favorite, i have many siblings and a single mom who was out most of the time, so during my late childhood and most of my adolescence i cooked, cleaned, bought groceries, and generaly took care of them, and so Sable is a character i can relate a lot to, thay why shes my favorite

In German, Isabelle is called "Melinda". Unfortunately it doesn't really have a pun to it, nor is it a famous name. But "lind" is part of the word "Linde" (linden tree), which is a well known tree here, its mythological symbol in old German is "motherly, warm, fair".
