I have a pair of Rockport Waterproof boots I bought in 1995 for $100, back when they used Gore-Tex lining. They are still like new, but to be fair they have received light use. I bought four similar pair during the same year and wore one or another pair daily until the soft soles and heels wore out. Had I known a cobbler shop I would have had them rebuilt. Alas, the three Rockport pairs I bought in the past ten years are not the same quality, neither in build nor materials, but they are comfortable, and two pair of sturdy loafers, one waterproof, have lasted about 3 years nearly daily wear. My point is that though quality has gone down since 1995, for most people some shoes and boots in the $100 range give decent value for the money, and I would buy them again. Few of us *need* handmade boots, though I understand the desire and the *want* factor completely. I hope there will always be a viable market for quality like Nick's Boots.

I have Chippewa logging boots, I did as a side job with a few drinking buddies in the country part of conn. And western mass back about 12 years ago and these boots are still alive and kicking only think I didn't like is if you weren't careful you would twist your ankle(s) easily because of the height and narrowness of the soles. Mine are also steel toe which I wore daily and they never gave me a problem. I love those boots and will buy another pair as long as they're Chippewa logger. I didn't like the ones in the vid because the toes weren't full grain leather (they were suede) like the rest of the boot. My whole boot is made of the leather like the heel to top. Mine has also better insoles lol I rather mine
@CrimFerret
@CrimFerret 2 года назад
@@dawhoda1 That's not suede. It's turnout or the coarse side of the leather. It's just as tough and doesn't show wear as much.

The form that goes inside the boot has a steel plate in it. When they drive the nails, they bend over against the plate. It hold them in place, keeps everything clamped together, and you’ll never stab yourself when you put your foot in.

Nice boots, definitely for logging or curb stomping depending on your profession. The guy staining the wood heel is ballsy tho considering he could easily ruin the fabric having it not covered or protected. This wastes a surprising amount of nails.

I'm genuinely curious, is there any practical benefit to having "inside-out" leather on the vamp/toe cap?
@nicksboots
@nicksboots Год назад
Yes! The rough-out leather is a lot more scratch resistant, so if you're working in a field with a ton of abrasives or things that could cut your boots the rough-out can take it and still look pristine

Why put a lineman patch on the side of the boot, but cut out the inside layer that it’s covering? I thought the entire point of a lineman’s patch was to have 2 layers to wear through. So why add a second layer, but then cut out the first? Just for looks?

So I have a question, hoping to stir a conversation. Given that our feet are shaped with the big toe longer than our short tow creating an angle, why is it we have boots that are either a pointed toe, or overall round tow leaving a void in front of our little toes?
@matthiasjagdm3949
@matthiasjagdm3949 2 года назад
Some people's little toe is way longer than other Peoples not every person has the same shape foot but the lenght from big toe tip to heel is generally more or less the same lenght give or take a few mm
@Bendigo1
@Bendigo1 Год назад
Round toe boots are just easier to make. I do have several pair of boots that are shaped as you described with the outside being shorter than the inside.
@XenXenOfficial
@XenXenOfficial Год назад
Just saying, your toes on your feet are naturally supposed to spread out, instead of being pointed like a V. That can actually cause feet issues and bunions. It's recommended to have a wide, rounded shoe so that your feet can spread apart and have wiggle room. More comfortable for the wearer, and better for health in the long run.

That skiving machine looks like it could really skive some skin from the finger of a not so skilled user 😅 You make it looks pretty safe though. Reminds of me of a job I had in highschool, I worked at a Pizzeria. One day I was using the deli slicing machine to slice some tomato for a hero sandwich and guess I was I a rush because I sliced a nice piece of my left pointer finger off. Man the freakin’ thing was bleeding so bad, but my boss was an old Italian whack job and decided that bandaging it and putting on a glove with tape around my wrist and sending me to work in the back would be a better idea. After the whole glove turned red I made my point to him that if a customer see’s my hand like this he’s going to get a health code violation lol and I went home. Didn’t need any stitches luckily, but there’s still a scar and it still hurts sometimes if I bump my finger.
