The first movie I watched which starred James Earl Jones was Coming to America. There was something about his voice and in the way he spoke that made me respect him almost immediately. Lion King and Star Wars further went on to show that this man has got some serious range. Still can't believe he's no longer with us. RIP Sir, hope heaven welcomes you with arms wide open.
The man may be gone, but his legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Mr. Jones. May your voice continue to echo in all of your works, touching the hearts of millions again and again. 😔
David Prowse did do body building but he was also primarily an actor. On set he had to shout through his mask so the other actors could hear their cues and as it was going to be ADRed anyway he did it it with his normal Bristol accent (not Scottish in any way). Threepio was originally going to be voiced like a used car salesman. Anthony Daniels (like Prowse) had to shout through his mask much of the time and kept his normal RP accent. Lucas found he liked Daniels voice and had him lean into the fussy butler persona. He dubbed over Prowse with no prior warning. Something similar happened to Peter Serafinowicz who recorded the voice of Darth Maul for Solo a Star Wars Story only to find out his lines were replaced by Sam Witwer when he watched the film at his own expense with his kids.
He was more Darth Vader than anyone. David Prowse was just big and walking around in the suit, and another guy did the stunts. Vader’s voice is like the most important part and it was always recognizable when it was Jones in that role instead of anyone else.
The way he talks about David Prowse _being_ Darth Vader actually makes me kind of pissed they switched him with Sebastian Shaw when the helmet came off at the end. Like how they never credited Kenny Baker for sitting in a hot metal unventilated trashcan all day.
He made Vader even scarier IMHO. But seeing him as cult leader Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian _still_ sends shivers down my spine... "What is the Riddle of Steel, boy?" Ooh!
Great tribute to JEJ in showing his spirit by sharing credit with David Prowse. JEJ definitely tries to downplay his impact on Star Wars so he doesn't overshadow fellow actors.
LOL YEA! He was from southmead (rough area) in Bristol my mother in law so say dated him (before star wars), I even stood next to him in the a chip shop a few years ago. He was on crutches and had a carer/helper, I had no clue till he left and the owner told me that that was Darth Vader! .... (RU-vid Bristolian accent, I don't think you would of feared a Bristolian Darth Vader tbh)
