My husband has an incurable and untreatable neurological disorder. He is 57 years old. It is a horrible disease and he’s in the hospital right now in a completely delirious state of consciousness after his kidneys started to fail. If this was our truth and that was the only truth there is I would be beyond despair but I know there is a Truth beyond our circumstances and that gives me hope.

Thank you for an amazing conversation! I grew up in a family of people that didn’t know how to have a meaningful conversation without yelling at one another. I struggle mightily with this when I’m with them. I’m trying to change. Sean, your videos teach me so much. And Jeff, I can’t wait to buy your book!

"I WAS ALWAYS THAT KID GROWING UP ASKING WHY," this quote incapsolates me perfectly. I will follow any rule and adhere to any standard if there is a good enough answer to the question WHY. I've been seen as combative to authority.. But ever since I've been little I needed to know the reason why before I'd submit. I couldn't explain my reasoning or what it was that satisfied me in hearing the answer to that question. But growing older it seems as though it was my pursuit of truth. I wanted a reason grounded in fact and reality. I've never liked people's personal preferences being forced onto me. God has always answered my questions. When I was accused of being a bratty child I retreated to the scriptures. I found rest with Him. I was able to forfeit my desires because His reasons were sufficient.

I really like dr. Myers points. I never thought about how countries that start out predominantly Christian are more accepting, compassionate and even financially better off then countries that weren't. But that hardly seems to check out. And his reasoning behind it makes quite a lot of logical sense.

The altar of religion and the altar of politics has done so much harm to humanity. Only worshipping through the altar of Jesus is where we find peace and freedom, both for ourselves and for the world.

For those wishing to pursue the philosophy of this check out Esther Lightcap Meek, a mainstream protestant who takes our relation to god as the model for knowing (roughly speaking). She has a popular introduction to her work called something like A Little Manual for Knowing.

If medieval Europe was based on Christianity there was an awful lot of prejudice and injustice. Suffering was around before the Enlightenment as well as after it. The problem with the argument about the relationship of different freedoms is the 'therefore'. It seems more likely that they arose together.

There are notions of equality outside Europe (where Christianity is influential) eg in Chinese faiths and Buddhism (which did much to undermine the caste system).

What book would I write? Look for truth, not what your ego desires. "My work" is not that important. Ask Solomon who made great things, said wisdom the world envied. Possessed great wealth. "When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: Fear God and keep His commandments, because this is the whole duty of man"
@SeanMcDowell
@SeanMcDowell Год назад
Thanks for sharing. I’m curious, why assume writing a book is doing what your ego desires?
@salparedo

You Bill, are a perfect hypocritical example of why the church is failing. You bash this man for writing a message from his trials and concerns of a life with Christ, then you counter with writing a small electronic pamphlet form message about your knowledge on Christ. But you do it in an arrogant way by exalting your message over Jeff’s. Another book by a follower of Christ is just a written testimony. If you think like this you should just tell others who speak about their Savior to hold their tongue because you have your better way. Do better man. Mercy.
@billhesford6098
@billhesford6098 Год назад
@@SeanMcDowell Maybe I missed it. I thought you asked at the start, what book would you write. I don't think writing a book in itself is doing what our ego desires. Although, it could be. If we choose to write a book it should first and foremost be based in things true. We all live by faith ultimately, but not every book I read is truthful at all. Including some Christian books. People tend to push agendas from their worldview and traditions to justify personal beliefs, political views, dogma and egos and self-will as well. Just think of books based around abortion or climate change - its endless -and the truth is often not a big factor.

There's head knowledge and there's heart knowledge. From the head knowing perspective, I can't prove that God exists because God is supernatural. The supernatural does blend into the natural, and as such I do think a reasonable argument can be made for it's existence, but it's not something one can ultimately put in a jar and study, which is the kind of things nonbelievers wish when they say proof. When a Christian says I know Jesus/Christianity is the truth, we say this with heart knowledge. Anyone who has the Holy Spirit in them has this heart knowledge. You just KNOW, but someone who doesn't have the Holy Spirit in them will never really understand.

Proof your religion is a ficion: In Reference to Deuteronomy 32:8-9 "I should add here that it is very clear from the grammar that the noun nachalah in v. 9 should be translated “inheritance.” Yahweh receives Israel as his “inheritance” (nachalah), just as the other sons of El received their nations as their inheritance (nachal, v. 8). With this verb, especially in the Hiphil, the object is always what is being given as an inheritance. Thus, Israel is given to Yahweh as his inheritance.6 It would make no sense for Elyon to give himself an inheritance. Moreover, as I’ve argued elsewhere, it is not just the Gentile nations that are divided up according to the number of the sons of El. It is all of humankind, i.e., “the sons of Adam.” This clearly includes Israel. And the sons of Adam are not divided up according to the number of the sons of El, plus one (i.e., plus Elyon). They are divided up, according to the text, solely according to the number of the sons of El. Thus, that Yahweh receives Israel as his inheritance makes Yahweh one of the sons of El mentioned in v. 8. Any other construal of the text would constitute its rewriting." ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Canaanite pantheon was conceived as a divine clan, headed by the supreme god El; the gods collectively made up the Elohim. Through the centuries, the pantheon of Canaanite gods evolved, so that El and Asherah were more important in earlier times, while Baal and his consorts came to fore in later years. Asherah - early semitic Mother goddess, "Lady of the sea," consort of El, also called Athirat, the mother of 70 gods El - the chief deity, god of the sky, father of many lesser gods and ruler of the divine assembly, also worshiped by the Israelites El Elyon -Special title of El as "God most High" The Book of Genesis itself describes the patriarch Abraham as a worshiper of El-also called El Shaddai and El Elyon -- building altars, offering sacrifices, and paying tithes to him. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Deuteronomy 32:8 When Elyon (El) gave to the nations their allotted inheritances, when he divided the sons of Adam, he established the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of El (El and Asherah had 70 sons and in line with the Table of Nations in Genesis 10 (70 nations) each son (Elohim) received a particular territory or people like the Canaanite god Chemosh in Numbers 21:29) Yahweh’s portion was his people, Jacob, the lot of his allotted inheritance (Yahweh was given Israel by his father, the chief Canaanite god El). Psalm 82 ’Elohim (Yahweh) stands in the council of ’El (chief Canaanite god) In the midst of the gods (Elohim) he holds judgment. “How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked? Selah Render justice to the weak and the fatherless; vindicate the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” They have neither knowledge nor understanding; they walk around in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. I said, “You are gods (Elohim), sons of Elyon (El), all of you; nevertheless, you shall die like mortals, and fall like any prince.” Rise up, O ’Elohim (Yahweh), judge the earth; for you shall inherit the nations! Google "The Most Heiser: Yahweh and Elyon in Psalm 82 and Deuteronomy 32 - Religion at the Margins" based on the majority scholarly consensus.

Jeff's story of recovery makes me glad for Jeff, but personally sad and angry. Instead of seeking the actual useful naturalistic treatments, like intensive chemotherapy that Jeff received, family members sought primarily after prayer and homeopathic 'organic' alternatives until it was too late. Christian beliefs do provide many benefits, but at times also cause great harm. Jeff cites a lot of great oughts that he thinks come from Christianity and can't be derived purely naturalistically. I disagree. Many were around long before Christianity and there are plenty of ways Secular Morality can be derived. I also hope Jeff realizes he has selectively chosen many Biblical oughts he thinks are good but omitted oughts I think we would agree are bad.

"How the Truth of Jesus Changes Everything" Yes it does, if you're a believer. The truth is bible Jesus is a fictional character in cult mythology. Even then, the concept and story is nonsensical. Just goes to show some people will believe any nonsense, especially if this nonsense promises a fantasy escape from their fear of mortal reality.

“Truth exists and it’s Jesus “. Really? You failed to define what you mean by truth. Truth is a concept not a person. The Acts of Jesus is not objective knowledge it’s magical thinking. It’s interesting that you went to the Doctor when you became Unwell and not to church to pray for wellness.
