Well I have had a lot of problem with EKA code lock down with my discovery 2. And luckily that's the only big problem till now else everything is great about this vehicle. According to some sources online this model has problems with piston rings but till now no problem at all has ran for 79000 miles almost flawlessly (please convert to km if you need). I also have Pajero Gen 1 so most of the times Pajero is in use so this vehicle is not used too much compared to people who daily drive

There is a concept called drive by wire in planes. The input from pilot goes to a computer and computer interprets what to do and manages the motors accordingly. In a small vehicle operating your AC or music system on touch panel is similar to this. The lack of haptic feedback back to the driver is an issue when using drive by wire. In planes the pilot gets the feedback from computer to the yoke or stick shifter. But in small vehicles that is the one of the primary reason touch panels feel disconnected from driving experience. When the actual drive train itself is managed as a drive by wire, the feeling of lack of feedback increases exponentially. Car manufacturers are pushing the drive by wire, because once refined, they will become components in a fully autonomous vehicle. Time will tell who will win 1. autonomous pods of transport or 2. the fun/thrill of driving. Nissan and Toyota are doing few vehicles in JDM that have the least electronics. Hopefully there will be one last run of such vehicles before we are moving in character-less transport pods. The current unreliability of these high end vehicles are the immaturity of the drive-by wire technologies. This is one thing in progress of technologies, I wish it never gets refined.

Actually very true. Many times people will sing praise for Toyota's or Honda's reliability, but that comes from the fact that there car are simpler and less complex. Toyota more so. But its more of a trade off, do you want mighty premium experience with lots of automation and features, or do you want something reliable. Everyone will have their preference. In India, for example, Honda or Suzuki's 1.5 NA will last longer compared to VW group 1.5 Turbo, but then it's not as fun as the later. And this too is right, Land Rover tries to match complexity with BMW or Mercedes, where the Germans never market their vehicles as hardcore offroader, but LandRover does. And the more you abuse the system the more its bound to fail.

Proud owner of a 2013 Freelander 2.. thankfully doesn't come with air suspensions. but superb ride quality and seats.. no service or maintenance related issues till date. .will keep it till the authorities force me to scrap it

I purchased RR Sport and its best car I have ever had. I had Merc, BMW before but RR is on another level. Servicing is no more costly than Merc but you get more for your money. Be sensible and get extended warranty. Treat it well and you will be fine.

Still land rover is worlds 16th most prestigious brand and top choice of every millionaire. You will find atleast one RR in every millionaire garage. Collection is incomplete without them. And perhaps they have themselves acknowledged that they are loosing customers because of unreliability.
