We didn’t explain the headbutt (which is a huge difference between Muay Thai and Lethwei) because Saw Paing didn’t use his headbutt in his fight against Karo. However, in the manga, Saw Paing’s headbutt is referred to the “Hammer of Burma” and its extremely powerful. Karo is very lucky that Saw Paing didn’t use it. Our guess it’s because Saw Paing knew he could beat Karo without having to use his head butt (which would probably finish Karo forever). On another note, Chad didn’t want to go all out on his head kicks because we love Logan lol and because Chad is in skinny jeans. Forgive the form.
Love ya guys in Myanmar. Learned so much about Lethwei and Muay thai during my visit. You guys are a different breed of humans who definetly deserve more respect all around the world. Badasses from the age of 5 up.

before taungoo empire lethwei was born. at taungoo empire age, myanmar . almost all land of Thai and including laos were unded the hand of burma. So muay muay must be thr branch of lethwei
If SE Asian martial arts were a sitcom family (of brothers) Muay Thai would be the lead character, Lethwei would be the deuteragonist that, to the fandom, goes from underrated to overshadowing the mc’s popularity, Silat would be the actual “underrated” character by the final season, and the rest would unfortunately get the true “side character treatment” (not getting love nor attention)
One thing you didn't mention in lethwei you can be knocked out and if you're corner can wake you up in 5 minutes you can keep fighting until someone kod and can't get up within 5 minutes I saw a fight where someone was knocked out and his corner woke him up and he knocked out his opponent and he couldn't get up within 5 minutes it was crazy
lethwei is an amazing combat sports. i used to fight in amateur rank when i was in high school. of course tournament rules are a little bit more controlled. in real combat, you rarely clinche. clinching is dangerous. if you do, you'll get headbutted hard. although, you will still see clinches in tournament. lethwei can be literally translated to flying fist/floating hand. let- hwei [let= hand/fist, hwei= floating/flying]. back in the days, it was trained by warrior monks (as secondary to armed combat) to fill the ranks of the king's armies. the reason why there are only knockouts, is because originally it wasn't meant to be 1v1 combat sports but rather to fight against multiple attackers, for survival. thus, even eye gouging, biting, joint breaking were also allowed in the original version.
I clearly remember how I used a teep into the solar plexus of an assailant (an asshole relative). It could immobilize an untrained human if it hits squarely
The front kick and low kick are one of the best techniques to contro your opponent, I think it would be fait that Pak is the one with the pads and let Chad go wild :)
I like when you said “thrusting” you made an invisible spear with your hands. That’s a perfect way to describe what it’s like to get hit with a well-timed Teep to the abdomen when coming in! Feels like you’re being run through!

@@Devilek3713 even an English publication is a tall order. The only one we can get in Europe is French. I hope we'll get a Polish translation one day, I'd love to buy them as well.
You guys also include manga right? Why dont you try manwha, i highly recommend "how to fight" cuz it features how an amateur counter and beat different martial arts like teakwondo, kick boxing, boxing, judo, etc. I dont know if its true so can you guys have a breakdown about it
As a Burmse, I think Saw paing look likes old retired Lethwei fighter called " Tway Ma Shaung ". He is the best and greatest Lethwei fighter at his age . Because both have brutal kick, punch and incredible durability. And Tway Ma Shaung also fights the guys who have more weight than him and still win
People who thought its Muay Thai but its not. Lethwei is heavily based on the Original ancient Muay Thai style known as Muay Boran. Muay Boran also did Headbutt back then but the government decided to banned headbutt but the myanmar burmese government are biased against the rules. whether if its legal. The burmese did not listen and just ignoring the rules and made their own style and rule set. They wanted to called their own muay style as lethwei. The art of 9 Limbs and they wear knotted hand ropes on their hands just like muay boran. Lethwei do not wear gloves.
YEAHHHHH BABBBYYYY, SAW PAING REPRESENT On a side note, I had a friend who came from a family of traditional martial arts practitioners, and taught me how to teep because of my height and longer legs. That, and I didn't know how to throw a punch effectively.

Saw paing is easily my favorite character in kengan. His energy is infectious and after finding out about lethwei it's been my favorite of all the striking sports. I still want to train lethwei at some point but get to take solace in the headbutts we have in Sumo. Legit from how screwed up my neck is from head tachiai's I'm gonna have to find some neck exercises. Because I legit can't bend my neck left at all anymore lol, it won't pop either, just hoping I ain't ossified my neck like this lol.
Use front kick to push your opponent back. Use both of your elbows to close the distance to your opponent fast. That's the basic for distancing in Lethwei. Saw Paing move was a combination of both. He closed the distance, rising his elbows a bit and at the same time he also used the front kick to push the opponent back. It will be a bit weird combo if you want to try it in real life but worth it. I'm Burmese anyway.
I can't believe I see my culture martial art is being presented in the anime☺️☺️☺️ FYI, lethwei and Muay Thai are very similar except headbutt are allowed kn lethwei
Haha the jeans kinda stuck with us through these breakdowns. If you’re in a street fight, you’re most likely wearing jeans so we figured we’d just do our breakdown in them.

@@hellbow1851 Sure. But Muay Thai literally is a Thai version of Lethwei. One of Thai's king learn Lethwei from Myanmar and try to spread it in his country and now it have so many styles, branches and others. At least that's what I know.
@@free_spirit2100 Even I as a Burmese didn't know this information Lmoa. Historically, Myanmar(Burma) and Thai is never really at total peace during King regime eras;its all abt conquering and maintain peace in Burma's way. As peace offering,the losing side will have to pay money and visits to Burma Kings occasionally. In return,Burma Kings also take responsibility for education of other Leader's children if submitted and ur info can be correct.
@@thureinlin2335 History have changed. It is now what other people wrote on Wikipedia and how many people described their own countries instead of real things. If we really want real informations we need a time machine to see who is right or wrong. I can write "Hitler was the best leader" and hide the book deep in somewhere without getting destroy and leave clues for future generations and they might think it is real bcz it is the only proof left in their world of our history, they might even names me as "Unknown History writer". Also, it was King Naresuan or his son who learned Burmese fight techniques and modify it and now known as Muay Thai but Muay Thai is just a branch of what Naresuan or his son did. They befriended Myanmar in Ayutthaya only to spar and learn the techniques and modify it for his army and was secretly recruiting man for revolution but now he is hailed as Warrior of Thai since it is not wrong bcz he technically saved Thai from Myanmar for a brief moment in a way and downfall of Myanmar started with their own betrayals , Arrogance and Benevolence. They could have become one of the best country but a monk requesting Prince KaNaung of what he invented to spare the creatures of suffering is also one of the reason they lose as they fight with bow and arrows to Guns and Cannons. Japan raided village raped woman and then General Aung San go to English for help and English help him only to rule over Burmese and then he have to go to Japan for help to fight off English and kind of successful. And after signing a treaty everything was fine for a moment and Burmese 2nd downfall began as Betrayals and Greed arise. And Burmese never really have been in great age since the fall of KonBaung Dynasty.
@@free_spirit2100 I understand ur point. I do admit from what I heard was Myanmar used to Bully Thailand alot so it ain't as heroic as our Books told. But yes,Myanmar is quite a prideful country and probably one of its reason to fall. Burmese people tend to live in simple mind,therefore easily manipulated. Even when General Aung San declared independence for our Country ,he gets k¡lled(censor cuz yt dun allow some words) by the same Burmese he swore to liberate from British Colony. Myanmar now is the consequences of British and Japan's invasion. Mind u that British invaded first ,then Aung San went to Japan for help,only to be betrayed so he asked British again and u know the drill. Today's Myanmar is all about Connections and Corruptions. If I were to have a say in religious way to my own country; perhaps Myanmar is repaying the sins of mass invades and murdering during the King regimes ,when they used Glory and Religion to justify their cause. Burmese ppl used to be ppl with Good faith and loyal to Buddhism. Now we Burmese are kind of nowhere in history till present.
Saw Paing's headbutt "The Hammer of Burma" is so strong that when he struck the ground with it, it formed a huge crater in the ground As if a meteor had just crashed into the ground
I was a muay thai practitioner 5 years ago, My teacher taught me to master the teep/ front push kick because it’s one of the most simple yet effective move to do against opponents and self defense.
