Which fighting style do you think Whis is using? And who wants to teach Fattaah how to say anime names correctly lol. The three Wing Chun techniques mentioned in this video are: Pak Sau (Slapping Hand), Wu Sau (Guarding Hand) and Taan Sau (Palm Up Hand)
Whis’s use of Wing Chun makes some sense when you consider that he always has Ultra Instinct on, which would enhance his already formidable defensive capabilities.
Makes even more sense when you remember angels aren't allowed to fight mortals so he uses a more defensive style Edit: I have been corrected and informed 2nd edit: I'm taking any corrections at face value because I don't read or watch super. All I know comes from a few movies, anime channels I watch that discuss it and my friends talking about things while I'm around and me piecing things together from that information. I'm not that versed so you could ignore this comment
@@BMCKINN7 yes but since hes undoing destruction on beerus's command he can...even if hes not supposed to...the entire law basically works on one guy going "ill allow it" every now and then like in the manga there is a angel that breaks a rule and the grand priest kinda just lets him off
Im not gonna lie i feel like ive seen this man in an anime somewhere and now im convinced hes been isekaied to help us learn about martial arts and fighting styles
@heyu2395 mix Dutch from black lagoon and teen gojo with the chill of Miguel its the best at the image I'm getting in my head but again I love how he looks like someone plucked him straight from a manga that I'd probably would read
@@user-by7py1gl9d you get doctorates, not doctrines. Might want to get the two correct before doing this weird intellectual superiority bit. Not going to work all that much more, but at least it isn't the equivalent of laughing at someone while immediately slipping on a banana peel... 😄
I'm a martial artist myself but never realized whis was using Wing Chun techniques against Goku and Vegeta until I seen you break it down in this video. That's crazy. Great video! 😁😎💯
@@critkid I actually am. Been in martial arts since my late teens currently in my mid 20s. And just cuz I didn't notice at first certain techniques a anime character from an anime that usually has fast super paced combat was using doesn't mean I'm not a martial artist. Plus I'm not that familiar with Wing Chun since while I know of the style I never practiced it or met a Wing Chun practitioner in person.
Journey to the west and Jackie Chan are the only inspiration. If he really cared for the culture Yamcha, Tien, and krillin wouldn't be back burner fighters.
@@Xannyphantom905They all have been main characters. They can't stay main characters forever as the show progresses. Krillin is Hall of Famed! A Shaolin Monk is the best friend of the main character. That's 🐐 status. They have all had shining moments. And they are still around!
@@theactiveactivist515 Yamcha and Tien have never been main characters, and krillin being a cheerleader is not something to be proud of. I'm not saying they gotta be main characters but they're irrelevant when it comes to fights that matter. Even 17 randomly got a power up to Goku level and he tried to kill Goku.
That fight was actually so good. I like that Ip man essentially lost. Mike was just way too strong. And for his size you'd assume he was slow, but he was JUST as fast as ip man he kept up with all his moves and countered with more power.
He also can't really interfere in mortal matters, or he will die. It actually makes a lot of sense for him to only deflect and block attacks because he can't really fight back.
This was a training session to be fair, so he likely could have fought back if he wanted, but he is so vastly above the level of anyone in Universe 7, that fighting back wouldn't teach them anything. Another great example though of where he doesn't fight back in a situation where he realistically would have if he was able too without the threat of erasure, was against Broly. There he just casually dodged all of Broly's attacks with both hands behind his back lol.
@KryptonBorn1 Just out of curiosity, when has wing chun been used successfully in mma. Not trying to call you out or anything, genuinely interested since wing chun is generally regarded as pretty useless in anything other than videos of bullshido masters.😂
In the interest of seeing more Fattaah, I would love to see him talk about the Wing Chun used by Hayato Suo from the new anime Wind Breaker. There is a fight scene in that show where Suo seems to combine elements of Wing Chun with certain locks and take downs to embarrass his opponent. It might make for a fun little short.
Yes, be my comrade in arms in championing Wind Breaker. I have been eagerly anticipating anything from Wind Breaker on Scenic Fights ever since Episode 1.
I just came across this while scrolling and I must say. It stopped me in my tracks and I was immediately invested. Nicely done with this, good analysis and terrific breakdown. You have earned yourself a new subscriber.
Wing Chun practitioner for 12 years here✋🏿, it’s great to see the system being used in a Premiere Anime.. if you look closely you can see Whis using a Bong-Sau before he reaches out to Goku’s neck.. Great work. Chen 🤜🏿🫷🏿
I freaked out about Whis when I saw this scene. I am a practitioner of jkd and of course you know the roots of that art. I love when real combat styles enter other genre.
I used to do the mistake of believing DB hand to hand fights were just punch 'n kick barrage but I heard someone mention they use many martial arts they learned along the way, and watchign stuff slowed down with narration really changed my view on it too
@@ScenicFights I also remember you talking about the Validity in Sasuke's Arm-Bar In one of his earlier fights! Perhaps one day when you're in the mood you could try to break down what Sasuke's martial art's/fighting style is, Using The Various Fights in the anime where he actually uses Taijutsu? In the boruto Era we don't really get to see him use Taijutsu anymore, So we Really only have Naruto and Shippuden to try to Determine what his Taijutsu style was before he even lost an arm! and now that we know that Naruto Uses Wing Chun more then anything else, I'm curious to see what his Rival's martial art (Or Art's Plural) is!
Wing Chun seems to be a really viable fighting style, considering you can do extremely fast and quick attacks to your opponent without hurting yourself or letting the opponent hurt you. I don’t personally know since I’ve never used Wing Chun or learned it, but it seems pretty good for self defense from what I’ve seen.
The movies make it look cool. In a real life scenario it’s not really effective. There’s a video of a wing chun user going up against an mma fighter & he got wrecked. When the WC fighter assumed his stance the mma fighter just rushed him & knocked him off balance. All the IP man movies just make it look cool but it’s all just choreography. Yes you can hit people but there’s no power in the strikes. If you’re going up against an opponent that can take hard hits you’re finished.
I want to see u review sakamoto days after it gets animated next month I hope it gets the love it deserves the later fights are so good they might actually be hard to animate
Whis made me appreciate wing chun a lot more than I already do. My sword master taught us an amalgamation of fighting styles with the basics being between ju-jitsu and wing chun but I used to stay away from the wing chun part when I was younger cause it felt “weaker”. I was wrong.
This is why Dragonball is still one of my favorite anime series. The mysticism is prevalent ki blast flying and such but they always throw is something like Wis' use of Wing Chun or Tiens proper Karate just to make you go "Oh shit!" its just so good!
