I feel like Diane says what I would have said to Jae every time he talks about a sad thing or a bad habit or something, and I have to thank Diane bc sometimes you don't even realise what you're doing wrong and you need someone to tell you, "hey be mindful, hey get some sleep, hey try meditating". It can make a world of a difference when you have this person and they make a positive impact on your life.

My first semester at college was the first time I was alone. I was hours away from my family and I had a dorm room to myself. I’ve always been introverted and I had the opportunity to have my own room so I took it. Little did I know being alone in my own room with my own thoughts got to me. Alone time was always important to me but being alone all in my room all the time made it harder to leave my room. This increased my anxiety whenever I had to leave my room for class and at night before bed. It eventually caused extreme insomnia, like so bad that I would try to sleep for 8-10 hours, tossing and turning, and then do the same the next night. I’d go weeks with an average of 1-4 hours a night. What got me through this moment was actually Jae and DAY6. Every morning, whether I slept or not, I would play their music and it helped me through the day. After a few months I finally got over most of it but I still have trouble staying asleep. What I’ve learned is that anxiety manifests in your mind and being alone with your mind can do two things: 1. More often, you will overthink and your anxiety will grow exponentially 2. This happens after months of the first, but you finally think out of your anxiety. I now know that the anxiety that affects me and even you will fade with time as you figure things out, but being alone will make it harder to figure it out. Try to talk to others for advice and THEN try figuring it out. Sorry for typing I just felt like this was the perfect place to type this because Jae helped me through this exact topic. :)

Ngl the spotlight effect hits me when I’m lit with my friends. I over analyze myself because I had a friend point out something weird that I did so it really made me think people are watching me and makes me self conscious. I think it’s wild how what people do and say to you can really effect your self confidence

Coming September, It'll be 6 months since I've been at home. Only talked (in person) to my family members. And honestly...I don't feel lonely at all. I think I could go another solid year without mingling with others in person. Maybe it's because I communicated through text anyway with friends and the fact that I'm very introverted. I guess it all depends on the person.

I honestly agree with that sentiment. I have friends i made from the internet and i have irl friends that i now have to talk to only virtually and it's kinda okay? Seeing people plan meetings and gatherings because they miss each other and i’m just there acting excited but in my head i’m thinking about the next excuse. quarantine for me felt like the spring in a lifelong winter. sorry for ranting here, but i seriously cannot do this anymore! everything feels so heavy!

I also talk to myself whenever I need to cheer up, remind not to overthink, remind on my to do list, need some discipline, or sometimes laugh/scold at my clumsiness etc. My inner voice is not just always in my head. As in I talk to myself out loud and address myself depends on my mood (ie. by my full name if i'm scolding or disciplining myself). It kinda helps me hear my thoughts sometimes so as not to overwhelm my brain.
@surabhidixit1828

Yeah i do exactly the same thing. Also it helps me go through problems as well. Like when i get overwhelmed i just try to remind myself to focus on present rather than stressing out about the future. Plan but don't waste time speculating future. Self talk is really my biggest mechanism to deal with problems

I use to have panic attacks along with anxiety and insomnia and i agree with diane, meditation is SUPER helpful, along with exercise, proper eating habits and self care. Im reluctant to bring astrology into this but its also very common amongst us virgos because we’re naturally very hard on ourselves. And i didnt know i had anxiety either until the panic attacks because overthinking has always been a state of mind. I really hope you listen to diane’s advice jay and try it because ive stopped having panic attacks since then and have been a lot more mentally stable. I do get anxious time to time but i know my thoughts/anxiety aren’t me and you can do it too 😊

This was a really interesting a relative topic to the current situation! Even though this is the more extreme or serious side of the question, there's actually been studies done on the effect of solitary confinement on prisoners and how it can actually drive them insane (due to not have social interaction or a concept of time). Similarly, people admitted to hospitals for long periods of time are prone to delirium if they can't go out, so it's recommended to have windows or a TV in the room so that they are able to see night/day or have an idea of what's happening to the world outside. I think those examples and the current quarantine situation really shows how important it is to stay connected to others and how sometimes we take it for granted I love Diane's rule of three! It's a really great way of giving people enough chances, while making sure you give your time, energy and care to people that will give it back to you! I ALSO LOVE 50 PROOF A LOT AND PAC MAN IS AMAZING AS WELL

I did a research paper for my AP Lang class a few months ago as a final about how it’s actually beneficial to spend time by yourself, and not just for introverts. I actually used the first 1 article Jay talked about. A big part of solitude depends on how you’re spending it, you need to enjoy it whatever activity you’re doing whether it’s meditation or yoga, or something like reading, listening to music, and jogging. If you’re forcing yourself to be secluded, or genuinely don’t want to, that’s when it could be harmful. Also, if you’re new to trying to spend time by yourself, then take it slow. I personally know someone who has been meditating everyday for the past 5 years, but when she first started couldn’t even last for a few minutes. So don’t put yourself in the deep end so quickly. It’s about patience and actually wanting to spend time by yourself. So yeah, you can go crazy or feel more anxious after a certain amount of time depending on what you’re doing and how much “experience” I guess you have, but you’re able to improve it.
