Lots of good advice here. I’m about 3 months off a disc herniation and feeling like a million bucks. Immediately stopped any alcohol or smoke ingestion. Changed my diet. Progressive stretching. Personally once I was able to start planking for longer and longer time periods, I was able to progress significantly. Backing off triggering pain was key as well. Possibly the best of all the videos I’ve seen on the topic. If you are as depressed and hopeless as I felt, just know there is hope. Help yourself!

How long are those "longer and longer time periods"?

@@DoNotAlterDNA started at 3 sets of 20 seconds. I’m doing it for 5-6 minutes straight now for multiple sets. My core and back are stronger than they’ve ever been 7 months in. Squat university on RU-vid will change your life.

I avoided refused cervical surgery. Taking a lot of vitamins daily to help promote tissue repair. I went from loss of balance, barely walking, numbness in arms and legs, neck paid to now having no pain and fully functioning again. I’ve been wearing a neck brace religiously and only doing moderate physical activity

One of the best videos out here on this topic. 4.5 years with disk herniation, went really good after tho years then I took showeld snow along side with a lot of core exercises. Been in bed for a 12 weeks now, forgot hos disabling and painful this is. Tried to train my way out of it, worsening the symptoms like h*ll. Er, morfin - nightmare. Back to baby steps, avoiding trigger the nerves. Took me 3 months first time. To all who read this: listen to your body and have faith. It's hard psychologically, you will Crack down during the intense weeks, but give it time. Bless you all during the hardship ❤you will be better

I’m in year 5 of this. 22mm disc herniation & annual tear in 2019. I’ve had so many setbacks and flareups. And I had another really painful flareup this past month. The mental battle has been off the charts. But I’m learning and believe I can still overcome and this.

The biggest factor is how much compression on the nerve the disc is applying and this can be gauged by how far down the leg the psin travells, the second factor is the condition of the patient overall health, factor number 3 is existing medication the patient is all ready on if they have high blood pressure then naproxen for example os a definite no no as it raises blood pressure, factor four is will power because without will power the patient will not put themselves through the pain of surrounding fascia tissue massage and stretching the shortened muscles snd strengthening also, factor five diet go vegan or vegetarian it greatly reduces inflammation in your body by 40% and factor six is time, understand that ot will get better but it takes time snd misinformation on utube about 6 weeks is so far off the mark it really is,factor seven is the age of the patient.

Thanks! I’ll assume this also counts for mid back pain?

This is typically for neck or lower back pain but yes, it can be true for mid back

This did not heal the first time and I have surgery 37 months in. I was only 29 years old when herniated and not living healthy and kept doing labour through injury. This time around 11 years later, yea I’m 7 years sober and dedicating my whole life to recovery. But it’s not healing many months in. I don’t do labour work I don’t smoke. It’s not healing and I’m given 3 years to even see a surgeon here in Canada. My herniation was very severe.

Thanks Doctor! I just subscribed to your channel! I’m going through an injury right now. About 3 weeks ago I got swept in Jiu Jitsu. And instead of break falling properly, I basically landed on my neck, with the pain travelling down my neck. I wish I could take time off but I got a competition coming up in two weeks. I really hope I don’t have to pull out of the competition.

Sorry to hear and thanks for watching. I hope you heal quickly. If you want to accelerate your recovery, you may need some hands on therapy too
