I don’t know how Jordan consistently uploads videos that answer the exact question I have when I have it but I’m not complaining! 😂 thanks for another informative video, and congrats on the engagement!!
I've been in a deficit for the past 6 months and lost 25lbs thanks to your videos.I still have around 20 to lose. I eat whatever I want, I just stay in a deficit. I've never felt so good on a diet.
@@oklol7893 I mean I'm no expert but if you do it wisely why not? If you have a lot fat to lose and you do it slowly while enjoying your life, you're not on a low calorie diet, you're not getting nutritional deficiencies, I don't see a reason why not. :)
Your videos always help when I start to think I'm failing! That little voice that teases I'm kidding myself is silenced when I hear your perspective so thank you for posting! It's taken me around 18 months, working with a PT to achieve my previous goals with regards to weight and now I'm virtually there, my goal is to work on gaining more strength 💪
I'v been watching you for a few months now and many many videos later I finally feel like I am getting to a place where I can have a healthy relationship with food. Thank you for being you and for offering resources for free. It seems like every other "fit" influencer is trying to make a quick buck off of us. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart
It feels like a large part of most of Jordan's videos are referring you to some of the other videos that he has made but that is just a testament to the information that he has put out there. Great content!
I've been in a calorie deicit for 2.5 years. Start weight 419 currant weight 165. I ate 1200 calories a day this past year - totally messed me up... NEVER do this.. After many hours of many youtubers i've finally upped my calories to 1700 a day. I have many issuses around food now and I wish id have done my diet different (but of course I'm SO happy to have lost what Ive lost.) BTW i'm a 5f8 F who never sits still now!
Congratulations on your weight loss. Your comment was really interesting, how did you come up with a figure of 1700 calories? I find there is so many contradictory sites I can’t reliably understand how many calories is an appropriate amount.
@@hollyhocks7360 Thank you! I added 500 calories to try and help with my hunger and other issues around food - it is helping a little I find. I did the worse thing by thinking 1200 was "the diet plan" (unless your 5f nothing never eat 1200 calories a day please) I use tdeecalculator . net - seems pretty good to me, I've maintained a good 2/3 pounds weight loss per week using that. I can understand though how all these different sites give different guides. What I find hard is knowing your activity level. Overall to me it's all a learning curve and each day I learn something new about weightless that is hopefully making me a little step closer to my goal. Good luck with everything! :)
@@FallenAngel2262 im even 5ft 2 and can lose weight at 1700 calories lol at 1500 I was already having trouble sleeping at night and was always hungry. 1200 calories isnt very sustainable long term, it got me to where I am but only up to some point and what came with it are a lot of issues with weight and food. I wouldnt recommend going that low at all. I wouldnt even recommend 1500 to someone who is very active.
I find this so interesting, I've been watching Michael mosley lose a stone in 21 days, he advocates an 800 calorie low carb diet plus fasting and time restricted eating, how on earth can this be right??
I’ve been doing the caloric deficit for about a week, but I’m having so many issues due to not hitting my protein intake, I’ve already hit my carb or almost my calorie for the day... can someone help me please😫
Hey! Thank you for giving us this extremely usefull information and also for teaching me to have a healthy mindset so that I can enjoy my life and achieve my fitness goals at the same time ❤️
@@jordansyatt so I'm 5'1 and 113 personally I wanna be 100 or lower im more so confused how long I should be in my defecit and so my maintenance is saying 1,929 close to 2,000 but honestly the highest I've probably ate was 1800
@@jordansyatt I just need a little help so when your in a defecit do you up your calories and automatically eat up to 1,900? After 4 weeks of the deficit
Congratulations on your engagement! That's awesome!! Also, thank you for posting this video. I really appreciate that reminder to incorporate maintenance phases!
First off - Congratulations on your engagement. Second off- I have been wondering the answer to this question. You need to get out of my head. It feels like I have been dieting for a long time. I am working on increasing my calories to momentum. Thank you for the great advice! Love you! Also- tell Rico great job on the engagement pics and the video! 😃
Honestly I just started watching your videos a couple weeks ago and I want to say thank you! I finally found a diet/lifestyle change that works and I don’t hate it 😭
Good explanation Jordan! I find that is so dependant in the person. Some people can very easily bang out 6 months to a year of being in a deficit and some really struggle with just a few weeks. I also find some clients hate a diet break because it pauses their momentum and some love it as it’s something to look forward to. The questions is how much weight do you need to lose and how fast do you want to lose it, then ask yourself how low can you go without bringing and failing yourself. How long will you need to be in a deficit for, it all depends on you 😊
Thank you for this video. It appeared randomly on my notifications right on time - unexpectedly, I became quite emotional at the end. I was organising my own diet (I am a dietitian) and, long story short, you reminded me that I should be focusing on more than that - not that I'm not trying already (tks self-knowledge), but...well, it came right on time. Thank you so much 🖤 And as a dietitian and for some other reasons, I really appreciated your notes on what you do/do not recommend. Great content! Carry on 🙂
Been following you on IG for about a year because I like your content! You’re funny. Tbh I’ve NEVER diet before, but I’ve always tried to be active even if it means walking for 30 minutes or playing tag with my students. BUT I gained 20 pounds these last 6 months during quarantine and looking into finding a program to get me healthy. Thanks for your content!! It helps for someone like me who has never thought of nutrition!
Thank you! Really needed this video. These last few days, I’ve felt like I needed to make my calorie deficit less important since I’ve already managed to lose 20lbs in 5 months just by changing my bad eating habits and following your precious advices. Now I feel like it’s time for change and per usual, this video helped me a lot being okay with eating a little more. Thank you 🙏🏻
I only have 15-17 lbs to lose so I’m going to do it according to my menstrual cycle. 4 weeks in a deficit followed by 10 days in maintenance because my cycle is 38-40 days! Perfect.
#sortinghatsquad, Congratulations! Loved your video on IG. Great video. The idea of diet breaks has completely changed the way we think about dieting. Thank you!
You always give the best advice and I always feel good sending people your way when they ask me questions. You have such a way with words I’m like “Uhhh listen to this video by Jordan. He explains it much better than I can.” Haha.
Hey Jordan! Congrats on your engagement! Question; I've been in a calorie deficit for about a month and a half now, doing cardio 45 minutes 5 times a week, and lifting for about 30-50 minutes 6 times a week. I didn't have much body fat to lose to begin with, I've always been sort of skinny-fat, but I was interested to see if I could get my body fat % low enough to have a sixpack. I'm almost there, literally maybe need to lose about 2 %, but I am getting insanely fucking hungry all the time. Like, I go to bed hungry, and wake up hungry, hungry. Is this common? I feel like it seems counterintuitive to go into maintenance, as I am so close to reaching my goal, and because I haven't been in a deficit for very long.
Been in a deficit for almost a year (had a super high body fat/BMI, started to implement a maintenance weeks now I’m getting closer to my goal. I have a low TDEE now so it’s impossible to be in a “huge” deficit anymore. I can barely do a 500 calorie deficit even with lots of activity. Yay for being short 😂 (I refuse to eat under 1200 calories a day so I don’t have disordered eating habits again)
500 defecit is still a lot . I found about 300 to be ideal, slower weight loss but who cares, it took years to put on so it taking a year to get off is no biggie
i lost 20 kilos in 2 months, now one and a half year from the end from the diet i am fine, i don't even think about it most of time and have not gained anything. so for some people rapid fat loss is fine ! I don't even exercise (deliberately, some days i walk a lot cuz i have to but most days i do not)!
I needed this video! I’ve been dieting and lost 12 pounds in 5 weeks. And I’ve been wondering when I reach the 12 week mark if I should do a diet break period where I stay at maintenance for a period of 4-6 weeks then hop back on the horse and lose the last 20-25 pounds.
First, if the diet is going well, and you're not mentally fatigued, keep going! It'll be all about how you feel at that time. I'd say do what Jordan said in this video and when necessary take a 2 week break at maintenance, then continue with the diet. That said, 4-6 weeks is fine too if you prefer. Diet breaks to maintenance are great diet tools. Remember, it doesn't matter how long it takes for you to reach your goal, as long as you reach it. Figure out what works best for you. Best of luck!
Is there a book you’d recommend on in depth knowledge of calorie fluctuations and what to do in certain situations? How the body reacts to certain foods?
#sortinghatsquad !! Amazing video! For someone with 30ish pounds to lose this is super helpful. As always, thanks for the great content and congratulations!!!
i’ve been in a caloric deficit for 4 months now and it’s mentally draining needing to eat 1500 everyday and barley being able to fit in my treats in those calories. I want to be able to eat a lot more and want to reverse diet and majorly boost my metabolism , but i don’t know how, i’m scared to gain back the fat, and i still haven’t reached my goal. What do i do?!?!?!
Do what Jordan said, take a slight break to maintenance calories for a week or two, then continue with your weight loss(0.5lbs-2lbs/wk depending on your BF%). Then if you prefer, going forward, diet for 2-4 weeks, maintenance for 1-2 wks, repeat until you reach your goal. Note, when you increase your calories, you may initially gain some water weight, not body fat. When you're ready to reverse diet, watch Jordan's 'REVERSE DIETING 101' video. Jeremy Ethier's video, 'How To Diet To Lose Fat FOR GOOD (4 Phases)' may be a good watch too. In addition, I recommend watching Greg Doucette's videos as he emphasizes eating low calorie dense foods that taste good and keep you satiated. Best of luck!
@@zoekruger2182 Since you said you hadn't reached your goal yet, I suggested the diet break and then back to dieting. However, if you're ready to reverse diet, by all means slowly add back calories each week until you reach your new maintenance calories(watch Jordan's video). And in slowly adding back the calories, you'll still lose body fat until you reach that maintenance. Then, as long as you don't surpass your maintenance on a regular basis, you won't gain body fat. That said, don't be scared to gain back some body fat, you now know what it takes to lose body fat now and you can go back to doing so in the future, if necessary. However you go about your diet in general, just make sure it's sustainable to you. You can eat treats, just in moderation. Oh and build more muscle, the more muscle you have the more calories you can intake :)
And last question!! In regards to someone recovering from their relationship with food - would you recommend going straight into a maintenance stage / going all in or reverse dieting. I don’t want to gain too much fat in the process but know I need to come out of a deficit. Would you scale back cardio? And if so should you also do this slowly?
Hey J, I had a question that’s not really diet based but rather concerns exercise. I’m a 200lbs woman currently losing weight on a calorie deficit and so far I’ve had some ups and downs but I’ve found a plan that’s sustainable for me and so far it’s working well. That being said, I would like to incorporate more exercise into my life. Problem is, the only exercise I enjoy is running, but due to my current weight, I get aches in my joints so at this time, I can’t really do it. But I genuinely dislike strength training because I find it kind of boring. Is there any advice you can provide to me to get myself in better shape, since I know how crucial strength training is in weight loss. I adore your content and it has helped me overcome a lot of the mental issues I’ve had with my weight loss journey, so I wish you all the best and keep up the awesome work. Thank you!
Bloopers are epic! Perfect Israeli accent! (Seeing as you are Israeli/lived in Israel... 😉) Oh yeah . The video was super epic. Super helpful. As always. . To any body reading this: if you're interested in fat loss (personally or you're some type of coach) - follow him. Read and watch everything he puts out. Then join his inner circle. 100% value, always. And he's super hilarious, as you can tell! 🔥🔥🔥
I love circuit style high intensity training / sometimes using weights, but know I need to come out of a deficit, should o just stop? Or is this good for me?
By going down then maintain do you mean, like eat at calorie deficit for a while and then maintain that calorie amount or go back up a little? I use MyFitnessPal and it tells me calorie deficit for me is 1600 but maintenance is 1800 per day, so it’s confusing 😅
Not sure if he answered you yet so I'll give my 2 cents as a sports Dietitian. Well eventually the deficit calories to become maintenance but you could also do deficit until goal weight then bump up to maintenance and test that out. Hope that helps 🙂
Hey not sure if this has been answered by Jordan or someone since but basically there's different ways and depends on you specifically. Usually if you have no fear around food or compulsion to fixate on when you aren't perfect, is a good sign. But it goes broader than this. How's it all for you currently?
Hi Jordan, I used your weightloss calorie calculator and its 1440 for me but with this video I couldn't identify for how long should I be in the calorie deficit. I know some people would comment here till you achieve you Goal Bodyweight but I am not sure how long would it take considering everyone's body is different.
Dont know if this question will get answered here, but I eat about 1800-1900 calories a day, I've lost twenty pounds since March, but my waist doesnt seem to be trimming up like I'd like it to (I think I've lost maybe 2 inches). I've lost weight, I look better, maybe I'm just being impatient? Also, I get maybe 75-90 grams of protein a day, and I know I should have more (I'm 179 lbs, trying to get down to 160). Also, I did a TDEE calculator from Obese to Beast, and my result said i should be eating 2100 calories a day, but that seems like too much. Any tips?
This question popped in my head the other day. I started my deficit in March, right when gyms were shutting down and I stayed in a calorie deficit but slowly started not losing anything because of how inactive I was. The gyms opened again, I wasnt losing anything because I was being inconsistent. Im going into month FIVE of a deficit, now I'm losing again but I switched my calorie deficit style to 4 days of low and 3 days high. how can I go back to just the same calories every day so I can go into maintenance for a bit? Since it's a calorie deficit, does it matter?
Honestly perfect timing I almost fucked all my progress up😭. I’ve been rapidly losing weight (10.5 lbs in 32 days.. idk if that’s too rapid). I haven’t been any hungrier eating less but I’m assuming that’s because I haven’t been doing this for too long.. thanks for the info. I’m gonna try to take a break and maintain what I’ve lost. Gonna be hard getting out of the diet mindset though tbh.
