to explain it as non musically as possible a b major chord is made by playing a B, E flat, and G flat a b minor chord is made my taking the major chord, and lowering the middle note (e flat) down a half step therefore a b minor chord is made up of the notes B, D, and G flat you can see they are very similar but a b minor chord, and most other minor chords, can be described as a sad sound. this is because the dissonance the d creates, whereas the normal chord sounds happy
