Poor Roger Ackroyd having to go back in the jar. 😂 It strikes me with my most excellent maths that you have perhaps only finished one book for the TBR spin so far. 😈 I love Burglar Bill, that’s an ideal book to read 15 times in a row. I hope you do funny voices for the baby. 😂😂 That book cracks me up! Going down the manga rabbit hole. 🫣 I loved The Sister Who Ate Her Brothers, it’s so good! My fav was the Japanese one I think. 💛 Mate, this is a massive TBR, it just kept spiralling, and this is on top of Misery May! 😂😂 I dunno what happens in Strangers on a Train either! I only know that same premise. Looking forward to it. 😊 🚂

I know - one day poor old Roger will get his day 😂😂 Your maths may be correct… 🫣😂 This month I need to read at least one of them 😂😂 Of course I do the voices!! Bill and Betty are very very cockney in my version 😆 I am concerned about the manga rabbit hole… 😬 This TBR did indeed spiral. I have read one of the misery May books already though, so that’s good?! Though I think it’d need to read about 5 books a day to keep on track 😳

And who wouldn’t love Burglar Bill- I love that book so much 😍! Ok, I am carrying over 6, have 8 buddy reads and 12 others on the pile of possibilities- do I beat you? 😂 As I usually read 6-10 books in a month I may have overreached but that’s half the fun 😉🚂

In addition to Misery May, I'm doing the 2024 Asian Readathon and Horror Mayhem (short stories). I've tried to overlap where I can, but the specific prompts haven't lined up--even though there are definitely short Asian horror stories that will break your heart. I've mostly chosen novellas and novelettes, but it's still a lot. It's an ambitious month for me, but I've got nowhere near as many books on my list as you! (I'm not stressing about actually completing everything--though usually I'm a completionist.)

🚞That seems like a lot. I love making a monthly TBR but it's probably more aspirational. I think I have some books on my shelves that will work for MiseryMay so I'll try to follow along. I've been thinking of dnfing How to Say Babylon, just because there's so much else I want to read but it actually may fit into MiseryMay so there's that. I might pick up Beloved by Toni Morrison for a Magical Realism read (another that will probably fit in for MiseryMay). The 1001 read along with Britta and Sandy is The Waves by Virginia Woolf, I'm very keen to read that one. I'm reading local poetry and maybe The Outsider by Audre Lorde, a classic feminist essay collection. Life in The Garden by Penelope Lively is a comfort bookclub read so I might pick that up from the library too.

Isabel Allende always has some magical realism in her books. I'm hoping to read something. Anything really since the slump is real. I did finish A Suitable Boy. I just couldn't wait. I tried to start The Hours, but that didn't really work out. So now I picked up The Talented Mr Ripley. That TBR sounds very achievable. If you were to have the month off. And you were all alone on a desert island. 😂 But I hope you make it of course!

I didn’t know about the #spoonies readathon. I’m thinking if I have any books that fit with it. Nearly all the books on my May TBR could fit for #miserymay /#mentalhealth I started And Then She Fell The Maiden in April and they carry over to May. I’ve also started River East River West Not too impressed yet. I had to DNF Western Lane. Not the books fault?? Every time I started listening to the audio I nodded off. 🍀👋☘️☕️📕📚📖💐

I think The Deep is based on a song 🤔 (I may be misremembering something) Perhaps worth while checking that out, if you enjoyed it. I am a bit of a heathen and very rarely care about music and it’s inspiration for authors 😇😄

Oooh I just got Sabriel!.. maybe I sjould join you. I'm not good with essay collections, ive had I Was Told Ther'd Be Cake by Sloan Crosley since it came out in 2008, but I have been meaning to pick it up that entire time lol. I need to read We aswell. I lo♥︎e The Deep, and I would count it as magical realism but it could go either way. I'm 15% into Bridge to Terabithia and really really hating it, but I will finish it and i liked the movie so we'll see how it goes.

I’m about 40% into Sabriel now and it’s awesome! You should definitely pick it up! I usually really like essay collections, but I’ve just DNF’d Wow, No Thank You 😬 I may have to use The Deep for MR, I don’t think I’ll get to Allende 😂 Oh no on Terabithia! The live for that is on Friday, hope you can make it so that you can tell us about it.

How many exactly are there on this TBR?? Maybe you should just call it a pile of possibilities... I'm more of a mood reader, so what I read in May will be a surprise - lol. I've just finished Lies Of Locke Lamora. It's not epic fantasy nor classic fantasy. Kinda a whole new subgenre. Think To Catch a Thief set in a 16th-century Venetian type world with dreadful sea creatures. Some of it is funny and parts are very, very dark. It has mystery elements (as all good SFF does 🙂) and is overall a good read. I think you would like it.🚉
