"Seal," oh you mean adultery, the 7th Comandment, "You shall not commit adultery." And there is no such thing as a heavenly marriage for "they are neither married nor given in marriage"- Bible.

Yeah but adultery sounds bad so just call it a "Seal" even when the children are underage.

I would like to know why women were not allowed to have plural husbands.

Makes me nauseous. One of the "sealed" girls was only 14, some were married to other men. If he was a good man, why was he so interested in getting himself sealed, why not focus on the things above? I wish I could rescue all the children from the mormon/lds cult in my hometown. My heart goes out to them.

More than 2.5 million current church members are alive today due to a polygamous marriage in their lineage.

Some guys that "dealt" with this man were relatives of some of these women. That's not an absurd assumption, on contrary...

Thank you for these videos. I like your unvarnished explanation of Joseph’s marriage practices. I’ve watched and read a lot about Joseph’s plural marriage practices but one topic that I understand would be very sensitive and hard to tackle that I haven’t seen is a discussion about Joseph’s secrecy from Emma. There is so much we don’t know about that and though controversial I’m really trying to understand it from a faithful perspective. I may never get closure on it but I’m hoping someone can shed greater light on the subject. Also I would love to hear more about Emma’s denial of Joseph’s involvement in plural marriage. One more topic I think deserves its own episode is Emma and Brigham Young’s fallout.

Ha! I was more than puzzled by the way Joseph practiced plural marriage, especially by his marrying two sisters without Emma’s knowledge, and then marrying them again with Emma’s permission. I can only imagine how difficult that practice was for all involved parties but especially for Emma. I’ve moved on. Those experiences are no longer a concern to me, and I hope you find closure, lad 🌞

@@_inveterateI could go into detail about my experience but it was tailored for me alone. I will say that I’ve found the promise at the end of the Book of Mormon is true. My journey in learning about plural marriage is not about questioning my faith. It’s about being pliable and trying to incorporate troubling facts into the broader framework of my understanding.

Eternal marriage is not biblical. Jesus states this in Matthew 22: 23-33. Even if Joseph did not have children with these women he is teaching a false doctrine. Paul writes in Galatians: 1: 1-10 anyone teaching a deferent gospel do not listen to him.

I enjoy the short form videos but I’m curious on what sources you are primarily using. Is it the Saints books, gospel topic essays, and church website?

We try and go to the primary sources as much as possible, but of course, we use secondary sources from many places to try and contextualize these primary sources. Where we reference any particular scholar's interpretation, we try and cite that. Otherwise, the interpretations of the primary sources are our own. Thanks for watching!

I think your brief videos have real value. But hold on here: There’s no such thing as “Mormonism,” “Mormons,” or “Mormon Church.” It is like calling Islam “Muhammadism,” and Muslims “Muhammads.” I am a Latter-day Saint. The name of the church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It’s a matter of accuracy, and also respect.

a Very good video. However it would be good to emphasize that the 'Historical' sources for alleged sexual relations with anyone but Emma is un-corroborated. Meaning some women have made suggestive claims but no actual corroborating evidence is there to support the claim. Some of those claimant involved claims of offspring, which you rightly pointed out did not bear out when DNA testing was done. That doesn't mean there wasn't sex, but it also doesn't mean there was. Also I like that you point out that the marriages were 'Sealings'.. What is often not well understood by many is that what constitutes a 'marriage' differs with respect to CONTEXT. Two main contexts of marriage we are most familiar with is 'Religious" and "Secular" In the US and perhaps many places in the world the two are conflated into one when someone gets married in a Church or by clergy However that's not always the case. Secular marriage have their own set of standards to be recognized as a marital union.. Those standards can be quite different than the religious ones. For instance, a Secular State might recognize the union of same sex couple whereas the Church might not. Or as in many cases with Catholic faith, a second marriage after a divorce might not be recognized as a legitimate marriage with in the faith. In other countries like the UK, LDS temple marriage isn't always recognized, so the couple gets married outside the temple first, in a ceremony recognized by the State, and then afterwards proceeds to the Temple for the Sealing. So this is a significant point to remember, as consummations of a marriage is typically a Requirement for marriage in a Secular sense, but not necessarily in a Religious sense and vice versa And given the lack of any corroboration of the historical sources it might be prudent to give the benefit of doubt and assume no sexual relations existed except with Emma. And even if sexual relations did occur, they were outside the boundaries of any legal difficulties. Meaning no crime was committed, and Emma never filed for civil divorce. This is how Joseph Smith was a 'Polygamist' and yet not a Bigamist. Bigamy is based upon Secular law and his Polygamy was based upon Religious beliefs. So just putting that all into perspective.
